200 million dollars of waste.

Was complaining about [gestures broadly] in the family chat and my brother, a reliably warm, sunny person, said “you know, whenever I start to feel bad about circumstances beyond my control, I just take a moment to yell at my senator.” Then he shared this app apps.apple.com/us/app/5-cal...

On the cutting room floor is the bit where the host introduced their interview series, The Interview, and I asked how long it took to come up with the name. Anyway, here’s me talking about birds and science and burnout and moving through the world. The photo’s nice! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

that Trumpers think the US Postal *SERVICE* should be a profit-making enterprise exposes the fallacy in their conception of government

For me, not using your vehicle's turn signal is a lot like not returning the shopping cart in that I think you're a beast who doesn't deserve to live in society. Like you can't literally lift a finger to make the roads safer for yourself and everyone else? Go live in the woods and drink creek water.

WIRED health & biotech writer here. If you're a USDA employee working on the government's response to the H5N1 bird flu outbreak and would like to speak securely about what's happening at the agency, please reach out to me on Signal at emullin.06. I can honor requests for anonymity.

ProPublica has released another study related to the effects of abortion bans in the U.S., this time showing a spike in sepsis cases in Texas following the implementation of that state's "heartbeat" abortion ban in 2021.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

men who dressed like this from 2008 - 2012 had preppy menswear blogs

They are deliberately crossing the red lines, in order to make the unacceptable commonplace and, eventually, acceptable again.

Whoooo boy

Underrated skeet

Susan Collins chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee and has the power to push back against the Trump-Musk misuse of federal funds. If you live in Maine and are ... concerned? troubled? worried? ... let her know and let her know often.

“If FBI agents who are just doing their jobs aren’t free of the risk of political prosecution, then who is? In a country run by a president who has accumulated all power into his own hands, you never know who might run afoul of the leader’s good graces.” joycevance.substack.com/p/kash-patel...

Prediction: the Nаzi salute will become common within 2 years. RWers will half-аss it for plausible deniability, memeify the backlash, then start fully doing it "as a joke" "to troll the libs" "for being hysterical enough to think we were doing it in the first place"

In addition to Congress being the place that makes the laws, pretty key thing, the constitution explicitly says Congress gets to create the postal system. It’s not left implied that that comes under law making generally. The President has no power to unilaterally abolish it and move it to commerce.

There’s something happening in this country.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

"Christian nationalism doesn’t just give him sort of a guidepost in terms of his views on abortion, but also brings a certain righteousness of conviction to the way that he approaches his work, a belief that in some cases the ends justify the means."

I’m not saying we should all panic. But maybe the government shouldn’t shut down all the systems we have for monitoring this situation. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

This is extremely alarming

Telling people to ask an algorithm questions instead of just asking other people sounds really stupid until you notice that the idea is to make employees whole livelihood dependent on machines owned by the boss instead of on each other's skills

More of this energy everywhere please!

Anyone else notice that The Moscow Institute of Computer Science “caught fire” and suddenly all the bot comments disappeared? Feels like an algorithmic cleanse, if you ask me. How convenient.

i think it is cool that de facto first consul of the united states is a drug-addled maniac and deadbeat dad with a breeding fetish

Fingers crossed 🤞 we need an actual leader, and that's not PP

EXCLUSIVE: A federal worker at the EPA sent an incredible email to Administrator Lee Zeldin. He's refused to stay silent, and has asked me to share the email - and his name - with the public. My latest: www.muellershewrote.com/p/exclusive-...

Banana republic sh*t

It’s official: the Trump administration wants to kill California’s high-speed rail project, and there’s little question Elon Musk pushed them in that direction. @awalkerinla.bsky.social breaks down today’s announcement and the opposition that tried to drown it out.

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

1) Given his immense powers, Musk cannot be considered a lower-level appointment an “inferior officer,” in the Constitution’s language. 2) His office was not “established by Law” & Congress has not empowered the president to make the appointment w/o Senate confirmation. slate.com/news-and-pol...

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

“I knew someone on AA5432.” That was the subject of an email NPR host Adrian Ma sent to newsroom leaders in the hours after the DC plane crash. He trusted us with sharing his story — and her contagious energy. www.npr.org/2025/02/20/g...

Okay so you know I like to remind everyone how the American immigration system has been cruel for a very long time. But loading people on flights to deport them to countries that they are not from, like Iranians to Panama, is not business as usual.

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj
