The NYT, once again, provides free PR for this administration by reprinting their racist/fascist talking points -- rather than engaging in real journalism. This is why we must defend #FreedomtoLearn in K-12 so young people can read critically, spot the propaganda, & seek out independent media.

A lesson in how claims of meritocracy as justification for opposing DEI are often cover for the demand that we return to a system of preference for white men - whatever their qualifications. Fire a qualified Black man. Hire a statutorily unqualified white man. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

So much for merit.

Always read Elie, you'll walk away having come smarter each time

IT’S FUCKING FRIDAY!!!

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

“The rowdy town hall was one of the first examples in Georgia of Trump-driven backlash trickling down to the grassroots. So many people showed up that some were turned away by local authorities. Others filed into overflow rooms to watch the back-and-forth.”

“But people will eventually accept it, even if it’s unpopular” is a comment I saw so many times this morning. That’s what we call a self-fulfilling prophecy. This is your moment. Galvanize and organize people who are unhappy. Don’t make them feel helpless to stop it by saying no one will stop it.

The bonus will be that all the Mars-goers die of space cancer www.shesabeast.co/mars-radiati...

“Trump & his party’s politics are one of disposability. To secure the flourishing of a select few (namely, right-wing corporate interests & white supremacists), others must be eliminated — deported, detained, criminalized, or even killed.” My newest op-ed: www.teenvogue.com/story/donald...

Over on X, simple tweets by my colleague Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal Constitution have been blocked. They were nothing but video of a town hall held by Rep. Rich McCormick R-GA where he was asked questions about DOGE

I feel so sick. Enough with the lies, enough with the games. They know exactly what they're doing. This is a neo-Nazi movement. Proudly so. The only reason they've kept it coded up until now was to take advantage of those who didn't want to believe it. No more looking away. Face up to what it is.

Wow. DOGE is far more expensive than the USDS that it pretends to be. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

🚨The Trump admin is moving to terminate Temporary Protected Status for half a million Haitians in the United States, seemingly illegally moving up the expiration date from next February to August of this year. In a single day, 500,000 people could lose work authorization and deportation protections.

Great letter from my colleagues @sbagen.bsky.social, @mjschlanger.bsky.social and other legal scholars across the country explaining why it is not necessary to start eliminating university programs because Trump

NEW: The director of data science and engineering for what is now known as the US DOGE Service has resigned. "If DOGE truly was concerned with efficiency, they wouldn’t have fired experts in procurement," she writes, "who prevent waste up front." This is by @makenakelly.bsky.social

I hadn't seen this yesterday, Elon Musk saying two lawyers were "undermining civilization" which "seems like a generational trauma transfer issue." What a strange insult. Does he know their parents or something? Ah, I see: they're both Jewish. It's Musk being a Nazi. Again.

“This week, the gov’t froze legal services for unaccompanied children, leaving over 26,000 children w/out access to their legal counsel,” Acacia Center for Justice said. “This strands children, some as young as toddlers, without the help they need to succeed in their immigration cases.” #ProtectKids

Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis.

Republican senators are traitors to the international order that has kept this country safe for the better part of eighty years. They are traitors to their own constituents. They are traitors to everything that has actually made America great.

As always, @chriswarcraft.bsky.social is a real one.

You know this is 100% going to happen…

📢 TODAY in DC! Federal workers & allies are standing up to defend the public services we all rely on—Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ care & more. We won’t let them be gutted. We’re going again at 5:30. Join the fight: go.savepublicservices.com #SaveOurServices

The correct response to the congestion pricing move is "I'm sorry, but New York does not recognize the legal authority of a guy who is famous from The Real World"

The MTA has already filed to stop the feds from baselessly and illegally pulling congestion pricing approvals.

New in PN: Putin needs Trump's help more than ever "Putin’s gambit has failed, leaving Russia in crisis. Yet, based on the statements of Trump and his courtiers, the incoming president seems determined to throw Putin a lifeline. The consequences of this traitorous prospect would be catastrophic."

Exactly! An Executive Order will never supersede an existing law.

Trump on Hannity just now: "I always respected [Musk]" Trump in 2022:

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt rejected the idea of having schools collect children’s immigration status. “Collecting 6-, 7-, 8-year-old kids’ addresses and immigration status in the state of Oklahoma, that’s not a public safety issue,” Stitt said. oklahomavoice.com/2025/02/12/o...

I have remained fairly silent over the past few weeks, largely because I have been processing the reality of an organization dedicated to improving government services being repurposed into the vector of destruction of those very same services. I wrote up some thoughts. Quick tl;dr🧵

Trump's DOJ has erased a report from its website that lays out its own recommendations for tackling violence against Indigenous women www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...

JUST IN: Another medical horror story in an affidavit from a USAID employee stationed overseas. Says his pregnant wife was not medevac-ed for emergency health care because of directives from DC. Took intervention of a U.S. senator to reverse — but was too late. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

This is a really good analysis. The Department of Education's Dear Colleague Letter on Title VI rests on an overbroad and ultimately unsupportable interpretation of the law. Educational institutions shouldn't let themselves be intimidated.

I will add this: Bollocks.

Do it @housedemocrats.bsky.social @senatedem.bsky.social.

A reminder: 1. Elon Musk's wealth is mostly in Tesla stock 2. Tesla is successful because at a key moment in 2009 the federal government gave it a $465 million loan so it could make sedans 3. Musk is now firing thousands of government workers and slashing every service ordinary people depend on

The protests going on right now are not the same as 2016 or 2020. You are seeing a social movement in its Proto phases before we know what the final form looks like. This is something much bigger than anything We’ve seen probably since occupy much larger and angrier then 2016 or 20 time to turn it up

"We must do everything, everywhere, all at once.... We must stop waiting for Democratic leaders to tell us what to do." open.substack.com/pub/roberthu...
