Yes. States run elections. The crooked states already have crooked elections to some extent. But blue states will still hold and organize their own elections. It’s why I am pretty sure we will have midterms in 2026.

History has random contingencies. History also has some structures. Some people find this infuriating. It would be interesting to know how many people who believe in JFK conspiracies also refuse to acknowledge the existence of structural racism. I bet it’s an interesting Venn Diagram.

This isn’t to say that bicyclists are somehow off the hook because drivers break the law. It’s just that the vehicle code and street design are stacked against pedestrians and cyclists.

Yes, the bicyclists should follow the law, they are vehicles after all. But here is the thing, all car drivers break the law routinely every time they go somewhere. Take some time as a passenger or pedestrian to watch how many times drivers break basic traffic laws, and not just speeding.

I guess we will see how that works, starting with the April 1st election in Wisconsin

the National Theater, the national orchestra, and art museums have existential significance for small Central European nations. It’s the way they keep their traditions, high culture, and language in sync. If the Kennedy Center goes dark there is still plenty of theater and music in the USA.

Is the putch at the Kennedy Center the only pain the wealthy DC elite will feel? I remember that one of the first things Orbán did in Hungary was to appoint his guys to the National Theater and a couple other prominent cultural institutions. This feels like the same play, except that

The bel weather is F-1. If the 2025 races in Vegas and Texas go as scheduled, there is no way FIFA backs out. They have a reputation to maintain as the most corrupt sports organization in the world. They are neck and neck with the IOC. FIFA won’t let F-1 beat them to the finish line.

But item #4 was about the JFK conspiracy theorist who was going to email me and call me repeatedly about organizing a "symposium on his research." Sure enough, four weeks into my term this guy started calling...

I'm serving as chairperson in a history department at a state university. My predecessor gave me a memo and a briefing on my duties when I started my term. The first items were about budgets, meetings, and scheduling. 1/2

Agreed. Although, I would say that plenty of people confuse themselves while trying to read the evidence.

"Core Values" for administration = "We keep the board happy and we get to keep our phony baloney jobs or move on to our next one"

That’s very generous of you, but you don’t need to give any institution that associates with known scofflaws, cheats, mountebanks, liars, obfuscators, conspirators, crap artists, and criminals the benefit of the doubt.
