A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

75%

Mood of the day: "I know you don't think they're coming. Consequences. But they're almost here." -Fargo, Season 5

What's most significant about today's day of action is the sheer number of locations where protests took place -- more than 1000 towns and cities, all over the country. That's only happened one or two times before *in all of American history.*

And the Parthians, who have treated us so horribly in so many ways you wouldn't believe how horribly, the Parthians. We will be taking, their gold and frankly all of their gold, a lot of people will be saying Consul Crassus that's enough gold

ah when they were talking about DEI they meant Dividends Equities and Investment, my bad

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

Look, for over a year, one brave Cassandra was warning you that massive tariffs were coming and that they’d wreak havoc on the economy. But no one listened to Donald Trump.

Wall Street bets discord is so goddamn funny right now

RAND PAUL: “.. When McKinley most famously put tariffs on in 1890, [the GOP] lost 50 percent of their seats in the next election. When [Smoot and Hawley] put on their tariff in the early 1930s, we lost the House and the Senate for 60 years.” @washingtonpost.com t.co/ONtPfv9On2

I remember all too little of the interviews I did with rock stars when I was briefly employed as the music critic for a national newspaper, but there is this.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A “TRADE DEFICIT”—IT’S JUST CALLED “BUYING THINGS.” YOU DO NOT HAVE A TRADE DEFICIT WITH YOUR DENTIST JUST BECAUSE HE NEVER BUYS ANYTHING FROM YOU.

All kidding aside: those prequels hold up better every day

There's no question that today's tariff announcement will give the United States the highest tariff rates of any industrialized country. And it's not even close.

How to leak to a journalist! featuring a bunch of good advice from those who know: @marisakabas.bsky.social @amandabecker.bsky.social @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social @rmac.bsky.social @swin24.bsky.social @juliaangwin.com @benmullin.bsky.social & @maxtani.bsky.social

I know there are explanations for it but it's still nuts that people strongly dislike what trump is doing except every time he's actually up for election they're like "hmm maybe this time it will work out." he even overperformed the one time he lost.

DuPage Dems Chair here… we’re leading in 48 of 49 partisan races and only down in the one by 35 votes. Several of our townships have never had an elected Dem, and it’s sweep after sweep tonight.

California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas): "there are currently more kids with measles in Texas than there are transgender athletes in the NCAA. That's the epidemic we should all be worried about."

“I am sorry,” said Frog. “That hat is much too big for you. I will give you something else.” “No,” said Toad. “This hat is your present to me. I like it. I will wear it the way it is.”

Nobel Prizes by country and year. The dominance of Germany is striking every time. Before 1933, that is. And the utter dominance of America (and the UK) after 1945.

This rocks from first to last frame.

Even if you accept the premise and decision, which I absolutely do not, it is the simplest thing to phone the visa holder, tell them their visa is revoked and say they have a month to leave the country. Accosting someone on the street like a kidnapping is just a spectacle of terror.

Based on the replies l, it looks like there a lot of fed workers on @bsky.app I just wanted to say THANK YOU. I can't imagine the shit you are going through right now Thanks for your service to our country

I can’t emphasize enough that cynicism is a dictator’s best friend. Stay outraged. Believe in and work for democracy.

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back. This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008. Also bigger than the 2024 DNC. And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

Overflow crowd for Bernie/AOC rally in Greeley, CO — the small one today, big one is in Denver later

New Economist/YouGov has Trump at 45%-50% job approval. This is a 5 point drop (!!!) in the last week, 11 since Jan 20th. Other declines since Inauguration: 18-29 y/o - 9 pt drop, now 44%-48% Indies - 13 pt drop, now 37%-54% Hispanics - 25 pt drop, now 31%-61%!!!!!!

Don't try to be interesting; be interested

can’t emphasize enough - stay busy, stay active, make things and be creative, connect with others, listen to music, sing songs and remember you’re not alone.

Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.
