www.nytimes.com/2025/03/31/b... The return on investment from federally funded research and what we could lose with Trump’s policies to slash research funding, “Research has found that every dollar invested in research and development returns about $5 in economic gains”

The sheer volume of time and energy being spent by thousands of university-based researchers in *every* field right now to figure out if their funding will exist next month or next year, if their careers can even continue… just citing dollar values doesn’t do it justice, it is full-scale upheaval.

President Musk is getting $8 million every day from government contracts while Republicans plan to cut Social Security.

China, Russia and India have dispatched emergency teams and supplies to earthquake-ravaged Myanmar. So have Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. The U.S., the richest country in the world and once its most generous provider of foreign aid, has sent nothing.

Countless skilled, dedicated, and essential scientists are being fired — setting back critical research that preserves our natural resources and mitigates future climate crises. These scientists protect our planet and people. We need to protect their jobs.

Casar: One of the most important things I learned is how so many of the most right-wing elected officials break things, do not want services to work, and then campaign on them being broken in order to gain political power.

President Musk and Kennedy Center chairman Trump act like this country belongs to them — grabbing everything they can and daring anyone to stop them. On April 5, we’re taking to the streets nationwide to say loud and clear: Hands Off! Join us: handsoff2025.com/?SQ...

Hands Off our democracy, our diversity, our rights. April 5, 12pm at Seattle Center.

Seattle Indivisible is paying the upfront costs for the 4/5 rally, including reserving Seattle center, the sound stage, and more. We put out a fundraising call linked here, if you wouldn't mind throwing a few bucks in the pot it would be so appreciated! seattleindivisible.com/daily-action...

We expected 2,000 people out in GOP-held Greeley, Colorado. 11,000 people showed up. Something special is happening, folks. Now is the time to organize in every dimension possible and get to work.

Tell it AOC!

And that’s on that 😌

AOC: What they like to call as radical, I believe is common sense. I believe that when a person gets sick, they shouldn’t go bankrupt in the wealthiest country in the history of the world. Common sense I believe that a minimum wage should cover the minimum cost to live. Common sense...

The fight for our democracy is not coming. It is here. When I say that we have months, not a year, to save democracy, I'm talking about this coordinated, relentless legal assault on political dissent. 1/ Let me explain a few elements of Trump's plan: www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/u...

LISTEN to Maxwell Frost: "We know that this country doesn't have a healthcare program. It has a sickness care program." Every Republican needs to be asked every damn day, what is their plan if they cut Medicaid? They want to burn down the house, w/ millions left inside it! #SaveMedicaid

www.nytimes.com/interactive/... A great explanation of how it is wildly misleading to say the republican tax cuts won’t cost anything.

Pet peeve: I hate how often ppl claim “all the researchers will just move to Europe/Canada!” You vastly under-estimate how little money there is there vs the USA- and unless that changes ASAP this loss is just going to decimate global science, full stop. 🧪🔭

The terrible CR Budget bill — written by right-wing House Republicans with no input from anybody but themselves — was passed tonight with the support of 10 Democrats.   An absolute failure of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill.

DOGE is aiming to close 34 NOAA offices across the US, including in Santa Barbara, CA. Call your reps now! kymkemp.com/2025/03/14/h...

In a total betrayal of their constituents and our democracy, 10 Democrats just voted with Senate Republicans to give Trump and Musk a blank check to continue their coup. @schumer.senate.gov led Democrats to this total surrender. We need strong leadership, not cowards who cave at any GOP pressure.

www.nytimes.com/2025/03/14/u... On how this bill would further embolden Trump and cede congressional oversight “Sen. Murray WA, “…because House Republicans’ bill fails to include the typical detailed spending directives, the basic guardrails that Congress provides each year in our funding bills.””

AOC: It is almost unthinkable why Senate Democrats would vote to to hand the few pieces of leverage that we have away for free when we've been sent here to protect social security, protect medicaid, and protect medicare.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

“This is bullsh*t. This is not a real strategy. The reason why you do this is because you think your constituents are too dumb to understand how congressional procedure works.” - @ezralevin.bsky.social Call your Democratic senators and urge them not to cave: indivisible.org/resource/cal...

Authoritarians govern through fear, not legislation. The simple fear of what they would do in certain situations can push even the opposition to capitulate. That’s success for them. We lose when we fold due to a hypothetical. We win when we challenge the REALITY that is hurting working people.

The only reason "it's about the economy, stupid" rang true is because up until now, we've been able to take democracy for granted, more or less. Now we can't. It's going to be about democracy (but Trump's economy sucks too).

Great article on the ongoing impacts of the Trump administration on fisheries in the NE Pacific, and the people whose livelihoods both support and depend on them. alaskabeacon.com/2025/03/10/f...

They're gutting public schools, sending class sizes soaring, and ripping special education services away from families. And they're doing it all to free up the $$$ for their next round of billionaire giveaways. Utterly shameful.

This is shameful. I have met with many NOAA scientists in our district. Their work monitoring extreme weather and addressing the climate crisis is critical. We must advocate for NOAA and stand with the workers who were unjustly fired. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Setting aside the incredibly dangerous and fascist aspect of this, is there actual evidence that Khalil was a “Hamas supporter”? Or is the standard for a green-card holder being sent to a secret location and possibly deported just “critical of Israel”?

A complete and all-out attack on NOAA. Without a functioning NOAA there is no function seafood industry, no functioning radar network, no functioning weather models (US or otherwise). Would you cut a personal investment that saved you 70 times over your original investment every single year? (1/3)

Day after day, I am hearing horrible stories from real people who are now facing incredibly difficult decisions — all thanks to Donald Trump and Elon Musk. These mass firings aren’t making government more efficient. They’re putting some of our best and brightest out of work.

There’s no rhyme or reason to the cuts and firings. They’re undermining agencies ability to serve the people and meet legal obligations. It’s everyday citizens who lose in the end—cutting off vital services and benefits from those who need it most.

IT’S WORKING!!!! KEEP SHOWING UP, MAKING YOUR VOICES HEARD!!!

Five things Donald Trump accomplished this week: 1. Promised more tax cuts for billionaires 2. Further abandoned our ally Ukraine 3. Flip-flopped on tariffs and tanked the stock market 4. Completely ignored skyrocketing prices 5. Went golfing Hope this helps, Elon.

Trade deficit is up. Stock market is crashing. Gas prices are rising. Consumer confidence is down. Grocery costs are soaring. Trump is terrible at managing the economy. Why? Because all he cares about is the billionaires. Not us.

Musk is stealing from you

They are lying to the American people.
