If you look at all the firings across the government over the last two weeks it's frequently been taken as a given that any black or woman official or officer is either a DEI hire or supports DEI and is summarily fired on that basis. Seems like the same model here.

I dream of disability drop-in spaces, similar to LGBTQAI+ drop-in spaces. Spaces where we can just show up & hang with other disabled folk. Maybe with programming like "your favorite life hacks" and "navigating religious trauma." But mostly just an open door with beverages & seating.

When a disabled person asks for an accommodation, the response shouldn't be: You'll need to - Meet with us for multiple unnecessary discussions. - Run an advocacy campaign. - Join a committee. - Promote it for us and ensure it's popular. Quit putting unpaid labour on us. Just do the thing.

The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in September of that year. Section 504 of that act codified the civil rights of persons with disabilities. Overturning this will not help children, nor will it help schools.
