The question on VISA applications is as follows: “Have you ever been a member of or associated with any organization that promotes or engages in violence or terrorism?”

That is a very silly question. No one can guarantee that. And if they did they would be totally guessing. Worse - is everyone knows that. Shoddy journalism.

Yes. I bought the dip. 🤭

Not sure there is evidence of this. We have women and people of color (or have had) up and down positions of leadership whether it be the WH, SCOTUS, CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and increasingly leading fields of science and technology. We don’t need to make stuff up - enough real bad stuff.

This attacking cars things is juvenile to say the least. Odds are high that the people doing this own a phone made with parts that abused labor laws, etc. Virtue signaling gone wild.

Eh. I tend to not like these labels anyway. It serves to divide people into “us” and “them” and artificially pigeon hole people. It is rare a group of people agree on everything. Policy is what matters. Many agree with a “liberal” idea for one issue and a “conservative” idea on another issue.

“They hate the people he hates”. Ok Jen. A majority of Americans hate women, gays and minorities? Many of the people that voted for Trump are women and gays and minorities!! Stop dividing this country with your identity politics. It will only lead to more losing for the left. Just stop it.
comment in response to post
Odd that the man that “hates women” and “hates gays” is the same man to put the first ever openly gay man in the cabinet and first ever woman to be Chief of Staff. Rubin always finds a way to step on her own message by going overboard. Stick with the facts - there are plenty of them to object to!

“Who is stuck in the home”. 🫣 I was with you until there. I am going to assume you meant not having an option outside the home….but it sure made it sound like we don’t value what women (and men) do at home. The home is the most important job any of us with kids will ever have.

That is fair. Were you in the same uproar when the Biden administration willfully ignored enforcing our immigration laws resulting in an increase in crime, drug overdoses and lost taxpayer dollars? If we are pro-law we can’t support its selective application.

No need for ad hominem attacks. I will read up more on the topic for sure, Mr. Furgeson.

Eh. So much other stuff to address. If people are here illegally and the government says they are gang members, I’m not going to lose sleep over them being deported. So many more fish to fry.

I see what you are getting at. And I agree with you in theory. But if the government has identified these people as gang members from a foreign country, they should be deported. And really, anyone here that came here illegally have already committed a crime that could lead to deportation.
comment in response to post
It isn’t that hard.
comment in response to post
Ok. We are not. These are not United States citizens. They are El Salvadorians. There is actually so much legitimate things to criticize. No need to make stuff up. Most will not care if we are deporting criminals that are here illegally.

Small thing, but his line was ridiculous: “Because many younger American physicians have growing concerns about work-life balance, “a lot of hospitals are turning to talented doctors from outside the U.S. to get this work done,” Dr. Weill said.”

It is more that centrists can tell each side apart and don’t like either choice.

Rule of law? These people we here….against the LAW.
comment in response to post
All true. But after Americans have been murdered, raped and attacked by gang members, few will shed tears for getting these criminals - here illegally - out of here. Best to focus on so much else Trump is doing.

What does union labor have to do with it? What if a car is built by people who are not part of a union? Is that inherently bad? Is this because labor unions donate money to your political party?

Dr. Sirianni- thank you for your in depth and thoughtful response, especially during this uncertain and stressful time. What you say makes complete sense and for everyone’s sake I am hopeful your research will be able to continue in short order. Thank you for what you are doing.
comment in response to post
If these numbers are accurate it is a leap to attribute this difference to merely “stress kills.” Let’s be honest about the nuance here.

Devil’s advocate: why wouldn’t industry/pharma pick up any research that the NIH was funding? If it is worthwhile wouldn’t they have an interest in it?

Virtue signaling by painting words on a wall is just as stupid as spending the time and resources to paint over those same words. Idiocy knows no bounds.
comment in response to post
This is a distinction without a difference. I think we are best to acknowledge this can happen when getting any *vaccine* but that the overall risk is exceedingly low and the benefits outweigh the risks. When we start talking about dilutents we have already lost the debate.

Onus to do what? Burning something down to save it makes no sense, however good it may oddly feel. Only solution is to WIN ELECTIONS so you are actually in the majority. Until then your power over a CR is minimal at best.

The options were bad vs. worse - they chose bad. How long would a government shutdown have lasted? What good would have come from it? How many people would have suffered in order for the Dems to show they were “doing something?”
comment in response to post
How many people here scrolling on an iPhone? An iPhone made by a company guilty of violating child labor laws and a host of violations across many countries. The virtue signaling crap is just silly. 🥱

Do we have a revenue problem or a spending problem? What taxation is needed to have a budget surplus?

Can you have talent for healing and also expect fair compensation for that service? Physician salaries make up a mere 8% of healthcare costs. Physician pay is the best deal in the healthcare system.

Physician salaries make up 8% of healthcare costs. The real $$$ is in the technical fees and administration.

Primary care physicians are paid too little….but it is not because of specialists. If there is data to the contrary I would love to see it.

CMS reimburses a cardiac surgeon around $1400 for conducting a coronary artery bypass surgery. CMS reimburses around $350 to a cardiologist for treating a life ending heart attack at 2 am. Are these specialists being paid “too much” for the services they provide?

The housing market in the DC is on the decline? One of the most wealthy places in the country - ever wonder why? I don’t think you will get any tears about a decline here.

Can someone articulate what the benefit of allowing the government to shutdown would be? What would the dems be able to get to reopen the government?
