the funny thing is people are really only mad at insurance companies but the cost is driven by doctors, hospitals, and Pharma. Insurance companies try to keep costs down and really are on the patient's side. Who else keeps costs down? Doctors would like to charge as much as possible! (I'm a doctor).

Correct. As constructed, premium payments are essentially a tax. We have to have many people paying in that don't cost the system to subsidize those who do. That's how insurance works. It's why term life insurance is so cheap. Basic.

no - see David French's note about this today in NYT. This was smart. Prevents bypassing Senate confirmation.

He is trolling. Joked about adding Canada as a state.

Nah - you underestimate the fact that dark behavior is possible from nearly anyone given the right circumstances. Of course we hope we are above something terrible like this but humans can do some terrible stuff. Not surprising to me in the least.

Exercise never had any scientific data for successful weight loss. Harvard Women's Health study was a failure in this regard. Exercise is great for you but not for weight loss.

Mike Isreatel already has this covered.

Working just fine for big Pharma! Any system will produce the results it's designed to produce.

No way! The NYPD got the data to the people. Gargoyle can't ID without all those hours of work! Come on Ed, love your stuff but, really!

Correct. This is basically a defund the police argument applied to health care. Insurance companies are the police and they are necessary - at least because of how our system is currently constructed.

This is correct. Doctors and hospitals are also "for-profit" and have incentives to maximize outputs. Payers do have a role as a check on this part of the system. Nearly a trillion dollars in fraud, waste, and abuse - and that's WITH insurers policing the industry.

You should really be promoting 988 for the US. Much easier to remember.

Wrong take - it's not incompetence. It's willful malice and resentment. He knows what he is going and if he succeeds it would actually show he is playing the game quite well.

Too late. Trump won and has 4 years. Who are you speaking to? The Rs in the Senate? Save your energy man.

Also - the worry does little good. The average citizen has little control at this point. Focus on local stuff and vote. I have no control over who will be the next FBI director so it's a waste of time to fret.

Dems need a coherent message for the working class. They didn't have one. Now we have this mess. Trump bad was never going to work. People will vote for anyone if they think it will help them somehow.

This won't work either. Dems need an actual narrative for the working class. People would vote for the devil if they thought it would help their personal situation. Dems don't have a compelling narrative for the working class. See: NAFTA.

new leadership could inspire better turnout. Dems really did not inspire anyone with incrementalism and anti-Trump platform. Working class unable to identify a narrative. Bernie is right on this. It's a shame cause now we are in big trouble.

The dems we inept and lacked a coherent economic message for the working class. Yes you are correct of course, people are not wise and got manipulated, but really, how could the dems lose to this clown? People will vote for a criminal if they think it will improve their lives.

that's the quote. best summary of what went wrong for Dems that I have read. Totally on point.
