Feel free to check out my podcast, "Whey of Life". Not all episodes are "normie", but the main purpose of the podcast is to offer information to help others, entertain sometimes, and take away the potential intimidation for many.
There are so many, but because healthy, reliable training results are a function of really boring consistent habits, the episodes get redundant fast. Fads, barely tested chemicals, bizarre and radical theories attract more attention and interest. Sadly.
A daily podcast reminding you to get enough sleep, eat more protein, and replace your soft drinks with water isn't a sell but dammit it's useful information.
Is there really an option for a (commercially viable) podcast like that that doesn’t get pilloried if they ask a dumb question or make an off colored joke?
Full disclosure: not a listener of any part of the bro pipeline (unless The Daily or Pod Save America guys count)
I have often appreciated his content, although he can be a bit of a dick sometimes.
Apparently he has some extremely problematic views around race. I'm not a regular enough listener to have picked it up. Someone mentioned it online yesterday in a discussion about fitness.
Seriously, Dems have to get into the bro world. We have to also be in these spaces that are dominating what so many Americans talk about and think about. The answer isn’t to find a liberal Joe Rogan, but to get in the existing arenas.
I know that Casey has a bit on her plate with a baby on the way and a book out next year (in addition to the newsletter) - maybe it would make sense as a tie-in with the book launch?
I like the idea, BUT most fitness or fitness-adjacent podcasts/YouTube channels drift into extreme territory (mouth taping, extreme cryotherapy, 💯 carnivore diets) to chase views, undermining their value as a “normie weightlifting podcast.” Incentives drive everything.
I get bros have agency, but isn’t this a natural progression of algorithms driven by profit and not well being. Yeah, one guy was murdered, but the bro black hole is better for the economy than hippies.
Kind of feel like normie, weightlifter, and podcaster are mutually exclusive, but I suppose what you really mean is people who are just into weightlifting and not also, weirdly casually, date rape, and that's a great idea.
I know these guys from the gym ... most are from the back of the classroom, super insecure, always participate in "locker room talk" and often are the bullies/gang mentality AHs.
I second the Calgary Barbell recommendation. Bryce comes across as genuinely decent and funny. Also, quite strong, because that's how powerlifters do it.
He’s Libertarian but had wacky ideas about climate change, believes CRISPR will make us immortal in our lifetimes, and then there’s this which was pretty uhh https://youtu.be/WBZGgrgMwvU?si=jZnSBDUF8LQDBHPV
Like in his recent Rogan workout and diet critique he took a crack at the seed oil thing saying it’s a right wing thing and not to come after him for saying their views on it are bs. Hard to gauge his politics from that tbh, but I think he’d be less likely to drag people down depressing rabbit holes
This whole corner of bodybuilding YouTube is center to left depending on the issue. Dr. Mike is more libertarian, but the Iron Culture podcast universe is good stuff IME.
I feel like the problem with that is that if you're "normal" about ANYTHING you don't need a podcast dedicated to it. Like I don't listen to podcasts about things I'm normal about, I listen to podcasts about my freakish weirdo obsessions
Don’t know about podcasts, but check out Simnett Nutrition on YouTube — he’s vegan, has great info & I’ve never seen anything troubling on the channel.
i started following noel deyzel for the past few months because he kinda goes against the type of content in weightlifting circles. he's also refreshingly honest about not being natural and talks about healthy ways to process body dysmorphia.
My husband follows this weightlifter who also has like a doctorate in kinesiology or something. I’ve listened to him &he’s great. So educational. There’s something these black hole/incel type are looking for & that’s why they end up with the HodgeTwins or worse. Alternative options are out there.
Cavaliere peddles just as much pseudo science gooberism as bog standard good advice - you can do a lot better than him, he'll waste your time something awful.
I love to alternate the 12 week strength program with the bridge 3.0. Their podcast and FB groups are great as well (or were, I have been on a running journey as of late)
the problem is that good fitness advice for anyone who isn't an elite athlete or has some funky health condition is simple to get your head around and so you quickly hit diminishing returns and move on
Okay, but how does one make that interesting? I like weightlifting — and working out, generally — as much as anyone alive. But I honestly don’t think I could talk about it weekly without boring everyone to death.
@jamellebouie.net has floated the notion of making some weightlifting videos to offer a non-pilled option for swole-curious youth. Perhaps you could encourage him
I fight this foolishness in my office a few times a week. They ask how I look so healthy, and I tell them I eat 80% unprocessed food, eat my vitamins, and eat my protein. Supplements are a waste.
There's quite a few of them but that route isn't as profitable as the right wing grifter route. I'm guessing it's because we aren't as prone or susceptible to cult leaders and ideologues
The problem is that every normie bro podcast veers into reaction as soon as a woman criticizes it because almost no men are equipped to face criticism in an adult way.

is pretty good
not exactly "normie" as hes a former baseball player, and he kids a bit about bro culture but isnt that way
These do exist. It’s not 100% what you are talking about but highly recommend checking out @cyzorgg.bsky.social for “everything that draws dudes to the manosphere but like…good”
I've taken up rucking, but at my wife's guidance we simply refer to it as me "going for a rock-walk", rather than some sort of military cosplay bullshit.
"Hey guys, okay, one more set and then maybe we all call our moms and tell her we know she did the best she could. Let's not forget to pop our 'weekly wins' in the message board and I'll see you all next week!"
The stuff I stumbled upon seemed explicitly to target younger Black men.
I found a cool music reaction video by a group of 20-something Black cousins, and when I checked out their channel, it was almost all Trump support + misogyny.
You've got a face for radio.(joke from olden days) Maybe you should think about it

Or maybe we should stop raising boys to be totally disconnected from their feelings and intelligence, on pain of being considered unmanly. Every time some idiot of either gender says, “Come on, be a man,” another confused boy gets his AR-15.
And did a brilliant talk on non-violence and his visit to Auschwitz, where he's involved with the Holocaust remembrance organisation there. Cant understand why he's a republican at all.
I mean...there's a ton of "non-bro" podcasting/YT channels for strength training, body building, and weight lifting. Jeff Nippard is probably the most accessible, but there's also Barbell Medicine, Iron Culture, FoundMyFitness, Gabrielle Lyon, Andy Galpin, and until recently, Stronger by Science.
A normal person has zero interest in following a podcast about weightlifting. None of the aggrieved dopes who watch Joe Rogan, Tony Hinchcliffe, Andrew Schultz, Jordan Petersen, etc, are looking for health & fitness tips. The reason Tim Walz didn't make a dent with the bro-opoly is because he codes
as a decent human being. They're not looking for "5 Days To Doubling Your Reps"- they want the bigotry, transphobia, lazy answers and bully worship. The whole "the Left need their own Rogan/Dems need their own Trump" ignores the fact Rogan & Trump are dishonest, grifting assholes. Hard pass, thanks.

Otherwise +1 for AthleanX. Who knows if you become a member you may be the one who puts him over the top and he can finally afford a shirt.

"why would you want to screw up large portion of female athletes who still cling to the idea they need to be more than athletes?"
maybe male athletes should get LESS pay...and the world would be a better place
But there is another.

Now, I call them MAGA beta males.

I see lots of non-toxic stuff but my algo is tuned for that.

Hey @mikeisraetel.bsky.social you should give this a consideration. Would do a lot of good in a time like this

I had missed that SBS was over. I haven't listened in a couple of years, but really liked Greg and Eric when I did.
