Nooooooooo! I don't think I could disagree more 😫 My favourite burger place switched from big burgers to smashed, and they're nowhere near as nice now 😭

Apparently GIMP 3 solves a few of the big problems with the earlier versions, but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I did look at running PS on Mint, but thought I might as well switch properly and stop giving them money 🙈

I've found it a bit hit and miss, but it might just be because I'm used to Photoshop. I've been using it with Krita and Inkscape for light photo editing and things like posters and logos, swapping to one of the others if I can't do something 🙂

Make backups. Mint has been rock solid for me the vast majority of the time, but crashed on my laptop and lost the sound on my PC, both during distro upgrades. It was easier to reinstall than troubleshoot 👍

If you find that GIMP doesn't do what you need, Krita is worth a look too. It's designed more for drawing, but can do photo editing as well. It's also free, and is in the Mint repos 🙂

Ah, I've never used that. I'm still a distinct amateur when it comes to fancy effects :p

Sorry, it's hard to clarify with limited characters :) It's not usually the devs, that behaviour comes from users who had to figure it out for themselves, and moan at people who don't have their level of knowledge. They pop up everywhere and are not often shut down. The vocal minority who spoil it

If it was the devs telling people to build it themselves, I could understand it, even if it's a bit rude, but it's often unrelated users on general forums. There's an attitude of 'If I can do it, then you should be able to', and a lack of understanding for people who can't.

Have you tried GIMP 3 yet? Apparently there have been some big changes, but I haven't had a chance to try it out properly

Depending on what you want to do, Krita might be better instead of GIMP. It's marketed as more of a drawing tool, but it can do some image manipulation too 👍

There are too many people in the Linux community who would just jump down their throats and blame the user. 'You should just use the terminal' is a popular one, or 'If you want that feature, build it yourself. Devs don't owe you anything'. I've seen both arguments too many times 🙁

I genuinely have no idea if it's possible, but I'm sure there are motivated people who could help 😬

Why not both? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, definitely 🙂 Strangely enough, given the context of the song, it brought back some happy memories. My father was a Leonard Cohen fan, and would play it every now and then. I'd forgotten about it for a long time 🙂

Thank you 🙂 I was worried I'd missed another good one 😊

Which song?

I like your thinking 😁

Sorry, my fault. My wife and kid are away for the weekend, so the weather was bound to be bad

There's a post here that says removing the cmos battery helped in their case. Might be worth a try. Good luck 🙂 forums.anandtech.com/threads/bios...

I can't take the name seriously after the god awful HDR photo craze a few years ago 😫

I've done the same 😁 On the bright side, nobody dares to call us out for it 🤣

Funnily enough, I went the opposite way on my last build. I usually just tuck the cables out of the way, but this time I routed them all properly and cable managed everything, and I really enjoyed it 🙂

Most external drives are just normal drives with an adaptor to convert the connections to USB. You may be able to buy a cheap caddy and rescue the files if it happens again 🙂

He's been doing some cover songs with Mikey and his Uke on YouTube, and they're really good 😁

Ah, sorry, I missed that part 🙈

If it's an Android phone, you can set it up to automatically save the contacts to the phone, and sync to a Google account. You should be able to transfer over the contacts from the SIM too. They'll sync to any new phone then too 🙂

Run the computer for a little while first, even if it's just in the bios. It warms the thermal paste up and makes it easier to remove 👍

Take photos of the existing fan and cable, including the connector, so you've got a reference if you need it. It's straightforward enough, but it's a good habit to get into 👍

Looking at that, your ethernet cables have been set up for phones, not the internet. You need four of the internal cables for 100 Mbps, and all eight for gigabit. You can get a cheap punch down tool and do them yourself, it's pretty straightforward 🙂 No idea about coax though, I've never used it 🤷🏻‍♂️

You've just given me a good idea for virtualising my Mint installation, thank you 🙂 Sorry, quick note for myself I can clone the drive with Macrium, virtualise it, then restore the backup once it's done 😁 (Macrium can virtualise disc images)

I did it a while ago. From what I remember, it was mostly setting up Onedrive, which was already set up 🤷🏻‍♂️

My wife and I both got notifications recently saying that our Google storage was running low. Other than telling us to delete large files, there was no way to find out what was taking up the space. Loads of links to buy more storage though. Google is an outright scam these days 😤

Ignore people like that, they're no fun. I've been building and repairing PCs for about 30 years now, and it's always great to see someone new enjoying the hobby, especially in this time of smart devices. Welcome to the club 😁

Even worse is when it does that, then you notice the confirmation popup for the last file that's hidden behind your other windows 😫
