People say, "What if she's lying? Destroy a guy's career over a lie!" It's that time again to remind people why I believe people who claim to have been abused by someone in the industry: Because, if I am wrong in the stances I take, I would rather be fooled by a liar than protect a rapist.

Elon Musk is calling for the CFPB's remaining account balance of $711,586,678 to be returned to the American taxpayers. That you give everyone $2-$3. But returning Elon Musk’s money to taxpayers would give everyone about $1,300 each.

Dems should take a hard line: no CRs or debt ceiling increases without full reinstatement of fired federal employees with back pay and an independent special prosecutor that Trump can't fire to investigate what happened over the last week with Musk.

See now I’m starting to think that these people want a machine to summarize things for them because when a human does it, the human uses words like “no” and “that would hurt people” and “that’s illegal.”

“the vibes have shifted” is passive voice. “tech oligarchs made deliberate changes to social media algorithms which altered the way most people perceive reality in a successful attempt to engineer business-favorable outcomes” is more EW WOKE CRINGE but it’s also direct, accurate, and meaningful

only appropriate political response here is to demand the white house explain how its actions aren’t responsible www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

I don’t think it’s possible to overestimate how much resentment and backlash to Me Too has fueled the culture’s rightward shift over the past eight years.

They’re all libertarians until a private company wants to do something they don’t like

I think it’s very important for Republican women to know that Pete Hegseth’s accuser is a married mom and a highly respected Republican aide, who went to the police immediately after the assault. They still don’t believe her. Your fascism will not save you from their misogyny.

Jack Smith’s final report: “Indeed, but for Mr. Trump’s election and imminent return to the Presidency, the Office assessed that the admissible evidence [post-immunity decision] was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial”

Fantastic series. If you haven't read it, I recommend it highly (starts with The Steerswoman).

Just a reminder that the Salvation Army are, by policy, transphobic pricks. There’s no hate quite like Christian love. issuu.com/verdemagazin...

As Dems reelect a spritely 74-year-old Chuck Schumer as Senate Leader, this is a reminder that U.S. politicians are the oldest of any democracy, despite the U.S. having one of the youngest populations.

I’m not sure how this got swept under the carpet, but President Biden’s efforts to combat junk fees will likely save Americans more than $20 billion annually. 👀

Quite minor in the grand scheme of things, but one thing I think blue states (and CA in particular) should be doing if we morph into tariffsland is require companies operating in the state (above some size) to list the price of tariffs on receipts separately

It really is that simple...

Hey, I see a few of you non-bot/troll folks being less than decent to others in my comment threads. Please know that I want you to practice kindness with others. If you can't do that, your comment will be hidden for all, and if you keep it up, I'll block you. Be excellent to each other, please.

I hate when they take away things you were just starting to really enjoy, like your favorite TV show or democracy.

Just received this in my family WhatsApp. Everyone drop the dumbest joke/meme you’ve seen this week

periodically I feel inspired to join the chorus here on bluesky reminding you to Just Block when people are trolls, bad faith, creepy, or even just annoying. Just block. Starve them of engagement & move on back into our entertainingly lovely stream of whatever the fuck it is we want to talk about

Matt Gaetz's withdrawal demonstrates a) again that fascism's first lie is inevitability; it's not. b) the struggle is long; obviously, this isn't over. c) the wild instability of weaponized narratives. The Right developed "groomer," which made legible behavior that Gaetz was hardly first to pursue.

PSA: Because Internet is on sale! I think the description of Old Internet People vs successive generations of internet users in chapter 3 is particularly relevant to explaining the dynamics of bluesky 🦋

Just ran into my first person who said “Trump can’t do that because the Constitution says…” My friend, the Constitution is a piece of paper that lacks enforcement power. The way you uphold the Constitution is to not elect people who will violate it.

people with high priced degrees from prestigious law schools will spend the next four years telling you the text of the fourteenth amendment does not say what it plainly says. This stuff is unconstitutional, no matter what they or one court thinks, and it must be treated as such

Some genuinely terrible people whining about the "block culture" here on Bluesky is how you know the block culture is working, keep blocking those genuinely terrible people, folks, soon the only people they'll be able to bother here is each other

If Dems flip #CA45 & #CA13, then the U.S. House majority will have literally come down to the 3 NC the GOP flipped thanks to its new gerrymander. And that itself hinged on NC's supreme court flipping in 2022. Coincidentally I just wrote this today: boltsmag.org/state-suprem...

Not that you care, but nauseous and nauseated mean different things.

"Astronomical novel"

Don't look at the news Don't look at the news Don't look at the news (Looks at the news) Oh, for fuck's sake

consider making yourself or obtaining a grilled cheese sandwich today all grilled cheeses are equally pleasing before god's sight, they are the angels of small joy

the important question isn’t “did Harris lose because the left is too woke?” it’s “why isn’t Donald Trump in federal prison?” We’re being subjected to lectures about politics by the people who held all of the power and let this dipshit slip through their grasp.

the actual best thing you can do for your mental health the next 4 years is make it a point to not wake up everyday and google the president to see what shit he did while you were asleep. Stay engaged, stay aware stay alert but don't do this, it will not only not help it'll make you feel worse daily

just want to note that zero republicans in my life have reached out since tuesday to try and find common ground

i’m gonna just watch this at least once a day and i recommend everyone do the same

I am seeing more and more opinions bubbling up about how throwing trans people to the wolves would be a winning strategy for Democrats, and I just want to quickly say: Fuck off with that absolute dog shit.

Throwing trans people under the bus is morally wrong and it would not do a goddamn thing to help Democrats, it would just demoralize the base even more. Precisely zero anti-trans bigots are ever going to vote Dem. None. Not a single one.

well, everybody, this is going to suck, but we’re going to follow the blueprint of every monster movie with a 2 in the title: take a little time to disbelieve that this is happening again, then use what we learned last time to fight hard, protect each other, and survive for as long as we can.

You weren't stupid for believing people would make better choices

“How about that post saying you should have compassions for the losing side NOW?” Yeah I mean, that was never going to happen in this situation either, so this isn’t the gotcha you think it is.

I'm not sure I'm capable of saying anything useful, positive, or civil, so I'm taking some time away.

I feel naive, and I feel exhausted.

My feed right now is mostly scared trans folks, but I do have a message to the business leaders I know follow me: you can make a lot of the anxiety better for your employees by establishing a contingency plan to protect them. I'm not saying to give up, just have a plan.
