I want to create an incubator that funds atproto/bluesky experimental projects to the tune of $5k-$10k dev grants.
I am sorely tempted to call it “Chemtrails”, because it seeds the ATmosphere
Hit me with your best ideas!

Extra credit: use LLMs to semantically cluster related channels.
I’m wondering if there is a generic way to build something like a “SkyBridge” browser plugin that overlays or integrates ATProto social graph into any existing site?
So if you browse Goodreads with SkyBridge enabled, it pops open a sidebar for comments etc.
One of the benefits of a public protocol is that you could choose to follow the moderator controlled rules, or augment/remove them entirely.
- **Downvotes**: An essential tool for the community to filter out low-qual...https://azsky.app/profile/did:plc:h4f5nbepaaprevtxmiuhcgpf/post/3legvybtuz27n
Custom moderation service that lets people provide a karma value to individual posts or posters. The karma algorithm uses various graph algorithms to compute a karma score of each user relative to centroids of the global eigenbasis of clusters.
Or something like that.

E.g. - how do I get one of my starterpack? who I follow? Where do I start to figure out basics for this kind of stuff?
Search for Python, or whatever
One-click playground for analytics on Bluesky data, seeded with a few gigs of recent data, with easy ways to (respectfully) tap into the firehose or fire up jetstream.
Can be an AMI connected to a public S3 bucket or bigquery db

You report a post to ATpay, and put your tip amount in the text field. If you are using ATpay for the first time, you put in your wallet address that the payment will come from.
Then you transfer that amount to the ATpay wallet.
I am going to start working on this variant since I am personally interested in finding my cluster. I think i will name it SkyFlock(s)
So glad someone else is interested in this! I wrote up a thing back in *2002* about a vision I had for "values vectors" that could be computed between forum posts, and we could build the eigentribes along different dimensions: culture, faith, personality, geo, etc. etc.
the general concept is pretty straightforward though.
In at ATproto context, I think the architecture would be a multi-pass global & local approach:
E.g. Music. The Spotify algorithm doesn't feature all new releases in the release radar, bandcamp has no good feed, neither Apple music.
There is no feed on the internet to just get the art without marketing content in between.
Give creators much needed visibility for their most important posts, while followers have a separate updates feed.
Probably needs some mechanic to prevent abuse.
I am no dev though, just a PO.
Many places like Bandcamp don't have an API, and the moment people can post everything to a feed, we miss stuff across all the social / marketing content.
I think it's a real problem. :-)
It's name is Linki and I think it would be a great way to handle highly opinionated subjective subject matters, such as fandoms.
Even more dangerous than chemtrails… is a 50 megaton h-bomb detonating half a mile overhead
@tautologer.com's https://github.com/tautologer/easy-bsky-bot-sdk is this - but having someone maintain it more would be great.
Discord has a vibrant benevolent bot scene due to eg: https://discord.py and nextcord making it pretty easy to start
Money first.

But the promise of ATproto was to replace existing broken things, and reconnect things which got fragmented in web2.0.
That kind of innovation takes skilled people who are mission-aligned, and money b/c they have to eat & pay rent
They can be many flavored; they can commute or not commute with each other; etc.
Or maybe making an experimental variant of the discussions & personals etc section of Craigslist that’s backed by Bluesky.
*That*, I would fund.
And Beaker Browser was a version of this concept
You can imagine users on YouTube, FB, etc adding DIDs to their profiles and comments.
The first target has to be a 'granny friendly' way of managing your social graph - how do I keep track of friends and family that aren't constantly online? More postcards than real-time dialogue.
with https://last.fm's future looking... bleak to say the least, having an alternative where you can own your music listening data is important!!
Will the API be freely accessible?
How does it use the atproto protocol exactly?
I'm pretty excited and curious about this project, when I started learning software development I dreamed of working at https://last.fm lol
2. Yes! We'll also be Open Source at https://github.com/teal-fm, so in theory you could spin up your own instance of the API if you'd like.
4. I'm excited too! Hope we can make it a reality. (there's a tweet of mine somewhere of me begging to get hired by https://last.fm to fix the site lol)
along with the issue of data ownership, https://last.fm feels very behind in features, capability, and responsiveness
all things we're wanting to solve with @teal.fm :^)
unfortunately it was started before ATProto (was generally available), so a rewrite might have to come to switch over to it :)
Could be a fun space to get out creative useful projects
https://webdirections.org/bluesky-poster/
- easy function to "mark read until here", seen never shown again
1/2
- auto-repost all subs with my nudges (for special "list" accounts)
blue seen, red douches (have whitelist), can still read on hover
https://bsky.app/profile/buttplug.io/post/3jwqqrswcjh2u
2. Would you consider renaming it “skybutt” (I’m worried ppl will mispronounce buttsky as buttski)
3. Could you add lovense support and build a cheesy chaturbate clone on this
2. Not a bad idea
3. We already handle Lovense and over 80 other brands for a total of 550+ toys supported. And if we tried to do camming we'd be sued into the fucking sun (there's patents)
3. ugh I hate software patents. are they mostly held by one or two entities we could try licensing from, or is it a hodgepodge of many greedy assholes
it almost feels antithetical to the movement? (the irony of bsky series a funding is not lost on me)
But I believe that for our networked ecosystem to survive and to thrive, we need to provide some economic mechanisms. These should ideally facilitate genuine transactions of value.
remember when @jay.bsky.team and @pfrazee.com gave Kairi a bunch of money for sexually assaulting bluesky users?
I think this would be useful for studies on network effects and how information spreads. But of course, this needs to be used in a responsible way.
On Twitter I had multiple IDs. I still want that, but all in the same verified account that I use to vote anonymously with.
Different accounts for different topics. Not everyone likes my posts about Big Brother. But I still want to be able to vote with every account.
I believe that having a blog with enough space to showcase more about yourself and your projects is essential in an environment as open and free as the AT Protocol.
Some qualifications:
- A stream yesterday where I built a labeler and explained AtProto to a bunch of beginners: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2301961564?t=00h21m19s

atproto ‘second brain’/PKM tool — obsidian-notion-readwise-remnote etc —
create atomic blocks of knowledge, network them together in a graph, connect to blocks and routes in other people’s graphs.
review w spaced repetition/flash cards etc
plan research
daily journal
lots of uses!
subconscious on atproto sounds *so* compelling
(and probably if not anyway 😅 i looove this type of stuff and would get a ton of value from it)
i’m on sabbatical rn and need a new project and this feels right. will share and keep you posted.
idea just came to when i saw peter’s post.
im so glad you're vim brained too because i struggle to let go of vim
LazyVim is exceptionally good
And this sounds seriously cool.
Care to write up a more fleshed out proposal with timelines etc?

I could imagine accounts get a Listening Score as described here
https://bsky.app/profile/kaidegner.bsky.social/post/3las66q5pd422
I think one could craft an LLM that evaluates the “receivership” of a response, and it could assign a qualitative measure to interactions it observes on the network
(I’m working on a dissertation at intersection of listening and leadership, and interested in the idea of building listening culture as a means to inclusiveness and innovation)
Ok but seriously what is sidechat and what are its distinguishing features?
Could we create a easily deployable college subnet/private network based on atproto, that ties in to university email addresses etc?

Having a fast mechanism to connect arrivals and mutual aid groups would be amazing.
However, I haven't seen a simple service that a user migrating from twitter to bluesky can use, that will cross-post all bluesky activity on twitter, linking back to bluesky in the tweet.
This will catalyze migration of the user's twitter followers to bluesky.
Free version - 1.5k posts/month
Basic ($100/mo) - 3k posts
Pro ($5k/mo) - 300k posts
I think it'd be tricky (without obfuscating usage 👀)
https://developer.x.com/en/docs/x-api/getting-started/about-x-api
It only supports plain text posts on the main bsky instance, for now, but it works!

@wang.social @rangakrishnan1.bsky.social any ideas?
I.e. integrating collaboration into more traditional scientific results / computational research.
First project is showing how to build personal blogs, public groups and private clubs on top of ATmosphere handles.
So I am @phill.hallambaker.com, so shouldn't https://phill.hallambaker.com take you to my personal blog where you can comment?
1/
Public groups work the same way, but I want to take us back to the USENET principles where the community decided which groups to start and they were run as communities.
2/
And instead of one admin owning the group and being dictator, vote on how it is run.
3/
Instead of my router giving me browser warnings for not having a valid TLS certificate, it is: https://router.phill.hallambaker.com
4/
Not sure if I will have it ready then in ATmosphere form, but I also have full end-to-end secure messaging with end to end trust already implemented.
5/
I am using @nything as a placeholder.
6/
You can register your existing blog, the service scrapes it and post your content on atproto for discoverability.
Me and my ex were contemplating this and concluded that "ATproto or adjacent" is indeed appropriate but the main focus should be figuring out ways to offload massive bandwidth and storage requirements of such services AND we think we have an idea that might work
I think it would be a great way to see what’s going on in the world in an ultra glanceable way
if one of you don’t build this, I’m going to tackle it eventually 😆
Would be great to infuse it with Society Library insights & dialectical map
I prefer the trails as a cloud of pollen sounds dangerous for those with allergies.
Do you like pollen trails?
Most sorely needed is a labeler for the reliability of information. SoMa main issue is the drowning of facts and truth. Herculean task, if possible at all, but sorely needed.
A scientifically inspired community notes with sources and rating of information.
though simple, the codebase is already being used as an example for how to build with AT proto, esp OAuth, and i intend to implement more features and annotate it w comments for education :)
also want to make myb more dev friendly by adding dev specific features (eg copy DID for user already in)
Users would have fully own their comment stored on their own repo. Other blog that want to use just fetch the data from users.
It’s kind of like a micro-NNTP.
The question is, how do we rationalize a federated system or registry for the channel lists.
But this is doable
Would there be interest in a "tiktokoid" social-video service using atproto as a building block and focusing on resilience, algorithmic transparency, novel "costly commitment+cheap commitment" approach to rating content (for the transparent algorithms to consume) and reducing storage costs*? 😸
#medicaresaveslives
Peter, I would like to present to you our latest lurking threat in an already dangerous world. A shadow plan take our waterways everywhere -lakes, rivers, oceans- and twist our minds and bodies to their will. Once you see one.. there is no going back:
"chemwakes"
lots of request for photo style (ie: ig, flickr, cara etc)
A conference finder tool like lanyrd was, but distributed.
It would be cool if conferences could just provide all necessary info by having some static json on their website and linking their bluesky account.

I don’t need the money but do have a great idea. I need the developer. Where do I find someone who’s not starting from scratch?

This was many years ago and prior to emergence of eg Partiful and whatnot.
This worth building and I would fund. You guys want to write a short proposal?
As to the private protocol / private friend circle and events, I'll put together a proposal when I can get the time here 😅
Super appreciate the vote of confidence on the idea!
These ephemeral accounts could then be used for sensitive events without being apparently linked to your main identity
combat misinformation and potentially catalyze grassroots driven, bottom up governance. Are there any proposals that suggest using the AT protocol to develop decentralized truth seeking platforms?
I'd label a post as spoilers for "Star Trek: Prodigy S2E9" or "Arknights 14-18". Other users would specify how far they are to determine if it's hidden.
