You know there’s a pox virus called “vaccinia“. Isn’t that a strange coincidence? Almost sounds like the word “vaccine”.
(Sarcasm. It’s the smallpox vaccine strain, from cowpox iirc. Live attenuated vaccines have long been a thing. In case young folk haven’t read it.)
Well, my note at the end about young people is because not everyone reading these threads is participating in the threads and sometimes you need to explain basics because otherwise they’re totally lost. So I’m not trying to explain to you, but to a hypothetical third-party beginner.
And we need to stop using antibiotics. Instead, we should look to see if something like bread mold is naturally producing some substance that it uses to fight against bacteria, and which we could use if we purified it and injected it into our arms.
Well, that's *a* vaccine. Not all vaccines are like that. The original gangster was "Let's give you a similar but less deadly virus and your immune system will be able to recognize the more deadly one because it kind of looks like the weaker one". And that's how WHO killed smallpox.
Just let this sink in.. In a pandemic, from whom would you like to have advice? From Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Jadad, physician, epidemiologist, philosopher, or a manager without medical background. Ontario, Canada. Selected the manager. @milsteinlab.bsky.social
I assume this was satire.
But on the off chance it wasn't, I wonder if the whole thing could be solved with rebranding... Just call them "natural immune system trainers" instead of "vaccines" and see what happens...
Soon: "The Model T Ford didn't have an engine; its motive power was provided by this mechanical device which burned a hydrocarbon and turned a drivetrain."
Oh it's neither fair nor serious to judge this man based on a single post from 2020... 4 years later, he is probably even dumber and more dangerous than that now.
Incredibly frustrating thing to read - but, hell, maybe it's a way to get these idiots to buy into it and actually begin to learn about the thing they condemn. Let them decry vaccines while they queue for their injection of a "weakened version" of each virus... achieves the desired result at least!
Herd Mind. Vaccinations are one of the most powerful advances in the history of medicine, saving more lives than any other technique. And the speed and scale of developing the vaccines for Covid was stunning.
The far right is full of truly stupid people. They’re proud of it too. And now pieces of shit like this are going to be running our government. Hoo ray.
Ok, really curious what the history is on this. My understanding is that currently we use dead viruses in vaccines, was there really a time we used "weaker" viruses (meaning diluted???), and if so how did that go?
I'll let Lindsey answer the history part of that (I'm a historian of bacteriology but not of public health) but what you're referring to is attenuated vaccines and they're pretty much the OG:
Fascinating... so if my understanding is correct; both methods are in use, it's just more difficult to use attenuated vaccines because they require more care when it comes to storage and preparation.
Many vaccines used to be composed of either related but less-severe viruses (eg cowpox instead of smallpox) or “attenuated” viruses, which were artificially weakened.
Some still are - it tends to give a stronger, more durable immune response. The MMR vaccine is an attenuated vaccine.
Lots of live virus vaccines are in current use all over the world, and have been for a long time. MMR, as mentioned, but also chickenpox, rotavirus, yellow fever, and chikungunya in some countries. We also have attenuated live bacterial vaccines, like BCG (against TB), typhoid, and cholera
Live vaccines are actually usually more effective than killed ones, because they introduce the body to the whole organism (not just specific parts like an outer coating) and they can be delivered to the part of the body most likely to see and respond to the threat (ie, gut for cholera; nose for flu)

The lack of difference will floor him.
Risking infection by live agent rather than what we know to be a very effective non virulent compound.
What if..........

The original “vaccine” (from Latin “vacca”, cow) was the discovery that a cowpox infection (related virus, very mild) gave immunity against smallpox.
