We watched the first ep of Dexter: Original Sin and the movie Monster Summer (a little teen-agey and campy but fun). Reading Demon Theory (audio) and Buffalo Hunter - on a @sgj.bsky.social binge, I guess.
It was solid. The girl playing Dexter's sister ... it is spooky how much she "is" the actress fromt he original, only younger. It's only one episode, so it's hard to say for sure, but I think it has serious promise. The young Dexter is very believable in the part.
Reading, nothing. Nothing intellectual at all, my head wants to rest.
Watching. Christmas movies. I've come across many good movies so I'm just binging when I can.
Some joy, even temporary, is a great thing.
Reading As You Wish by Cary Elwes. Currently at a Christmas party where the host has just restarted Jack Frost (the Michael Keaton one, not the horror comedy one) for the third time
Reading: 25 Days by Per Jacobsen, The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole, and Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma.
Watching: Cross, Strange Darling, and Christmas movies
the waiting by michael connelly - actually reading more science books for exam next week.
i watched shalako yesterday - a western from 1968 with sean connery and honor blackman
Watching "Alpha House," a PRIME comedy series about four GOP senators in 2013, during the Obama presidency. It's hilarious in its insanity and scary in its accuracy. While the focus is on the men, the women (including Wanda Sykes, Cynthia Nixon, Julie White and Amy Sedaris) are the best part.
Movies with my 90-year-old mom tonight ... "Mandela, Road to Freedom" and "Erin Brockovich." She loved them both. She missed out on a lot of good stuff over the years because dad's taste was pretty narrow.
About 50% through & loving it so far. His ability to tone switch is very rare for this kind of book. He'll go from telling things in a calm, rational, this is what I saw/ what we're doing to suddenly switching to to one that is frenzied, run on, out of control showcasing his fears and excitement.
Watching Earth Abides and… it’s fine. Earnest, well-made post-apoc but nothing we haven’t seen before even if this is derived from one of the granddaddies of the subgenre. Can’t we just have more Last of Us, please?
Same, but it’s been decades since I read it. Time to go back and see if it holds up better than I have. Seriously, it’s been maybe ... 50 years? Jesus.
Oh very cool! Well I hope that those good things are indeed good things and the book is good! I’ve a feeling with your taste in movies and video games it is sure to be a good read!
I read a chapter of a Doctor Who spin-off book from an indie publisher, read the lead strip in this month's Judge Dredd Megazine (it was very funny), and watched a couple of episode's of Doctor Who from 2006 with my kids. We also watched Home Alone 2 and some Lego Masters.
Idolatry by by Aditya Sudarshan. SF novel about shrine tech which enables everyone to worship a god of their own preference. Story revolves around ai powered prayer machine and its affects on people and society
I'm reading "Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison" it's a masterpiece and I don't know what took me so long. I'm almost done, someone recommend something good for me (genre doesn't matter, I read everything).
Rewatching Madam Secretary, where she goes to AZ to order the Governor to release the children from cages and gets arrested. A weed lobbyist has a solution. Season 5.
Reading All the Water in the World by Eiren Caffall, I highly recommend this one for apocalyptic novel fans, it has heart much like Cormac Mcarthy's The Road.
Funny you ask. I just started this one which is my first read by this author. I’ve read some amazing reviews so I’m excited to have started. Talk about starting with a gut punch though. Not very far yet but I’ve enjoyed it so far.
I'm finally sunk in The Angel of Indian Lake - I put it off because of deadlines because I knew I'd get sucked in & get no work done once I started, but I can only hold out so long.
Damn it's good, SGJ makes me feel like an amateur.
