wow look at all of these better alternatives to Adobe that exist
ask me about Pixelart programs if interested in that aspect specifically because you *definitely* don't need PS for that, lol

Always have done....well, since I moved fron paint.
But realistically, any image editor can be used for pixel art if you configure it properly, I think.
Seriously, please use Affinity
I just got aseprite and have been practicing slowly since last summer. Recently, I got to the point where I'm just having fun doing it.
Hope to develop a style at some point.
Lastly, love you're stuff.
DarkAudacity is the safer choice these days, despite not being further developed.

No worries, though, this is such a helpful guide and I already took note of some apps I want to try and never knew existed!
Y'know... It's what came for free with my computer, and it's what I've been using since I was a child...
But also like... I never felt the need to upgrade from Photoshop CS3 anyway, and they can't do anything to stop me from still using it...

It has everything I need to make nice gifs 😆
I know I’ve been needing to switch away from Adobe, and this makes it easier to jumpstart the process :)
I've been thinking about needing some alternatives as I've returned to the computer for creative work.
I don't want to support Adobe anymore and I knew if I gave it a few days someone would post this.
And even though it's no longer needed, I still try to do that extra step you used to have to do to paste something as a new layer.
Boy, the face-eating leopard crowd is really just rolling with all this ridiculousness.
GIMP, Inkscape, Kdenlive, and Audacity have done like 97% of what I've wanted, and the last 3% just isn't worth the constant crashes and £720 a year for the rest of my life
Also since it's open source you should be able to compile it yourself for free too
I remember seeing a powerful tool for animated pixel art/sprites. Any recommendations?
It's also inexpensive, 20$ one time (free if you compile from source yourself, but I like supporting the devs).
If you are holding off due to SteamOS... just switch already.
FYI: Toon Boom does have a single purchase option for that specific version of the software.
For upgrades it requires a “support package” yearly fee of a few hundred dollars. It is otherwise subscription based.
I'll minister a Pixel Art workshop soon and use it specially bacause it's free

I can definitely vouch for Pixquare if you draw on iPad, it's UI is similar enough to procreate, so it's easy to figure out.
I hope there's something good on Android for it
Gimp
(That and using FOSS, of course.)
Somebody made a GIMP layout that is similar to Photoshop, which smooths the learning curve. I recommend it.
I will have it next time I need it.
But for standalone pieces I actually like Gimp, because the robust color tools are more instinctual to me when picking a palette from scratch. It works out of the box with Pencil tool.
However, it's unusably bad for animation which is why I used Pixelorama for that (for some reason I don't like Asesprite interface). There's also GraphicsGale.
also, i would love as many pixelart software recs as possible. I thought about doing some, and csp and affinity are very awkward and clunky for that D:

(I refuse to use Sony Vegas)
It has a lot of tools built-in like premade palettes, animation (with spritesheet exports) and a lot more
Idk if it's the absolute best but i like it a lot
Also if you are a student (or tbh, it's not hard to get the student discount in-store) and work on a Mac, consider the Pro Apps Bundle for Education. https://www.apple.com/us-edu/shop/product/BMGE2Z/A/pro-apps-bundle-for-education
All prices I list are in USD
- Au alt DAW: Logic Pro. Garageband on Steroids. $199. Works on Mac. My personal favorite. A lot of recording studios use this one.
- A note about Pro Tools: Industry standard post-production.
- Studio One - Beginner-friendly - $199
- MOTU/Digital Performer - MIDI powerhouse - $499
- Bitwig Studio - Ableton alternative - $99+
- Reason - Emulates a studio rack - $499 or $199/yr
- ACID Pro - Specializes in Loops - $99+ or $95.88/yr
Final Cut Pro: Pr alt

And some others in the bundle that aren't so much adobe alts:
Compressor: What it says on the tin-- audio compressor for Final Cut
MainStage: Live audio engineering
also i love GIMP 🥹
anyways, CSP is pretty decent as a photo editor. not as much as ps but its better than gimp..
photopea is also good, wish it wasnt browser only though...
I built my website with portfolio and they host it for free. I think that’s a pretty good value. I’d like to know which apps you think are better than Adobe.

Trump is the excuse for shitty behavior
For pixel art just go with Aseprite. It's cheap and it's good.

There's Libresprite, where smart folks do it for you and give you an easy to install package for FREE!

Krita is incredible for a free program and Clip Studio is just generally The Best
I'm asking because I'm confused with the box with the word Ai.
Ideas please. TIA.
which program you use to draw pixel art?
