Normal Public Dialog - FREE Speech is now becoming Extinct?!? Well then, that's going to be a bigger problem than we are facing now with the Trump administration. If we lose our voices, we will lose everything & that is what Trump wants - our uncertainty of what may happen if we express ourselves.
We cannot hold our tongues. We cannot suppress THE TRUTH. Our voices & our discource is what gives us strength & power, as evidenced right here. We must face any fear, any worry, any intimidation head-on, with firm belief & a full strong United Voice. We Will Succeed!
So everyone's afraid except for AOC and Jasmine Crockett?
All these delicate white people don't want to kick the hornet's nest, not realizing that the hornets are just going to come for them no matter what, sooner or later.
I can’t help but wonder if the reason Democrats are disorganized and generally ineffective is because they are reluctant to coalesce behind one of these more progressive voices.
Add Bernie Sanders, Al Green and Elisabeth Warren, Pete Buttigiege to your list of people who are not afraid to speak up.
What’s deafening is the lack of concern and leadership from Hakeem Jeffries and the silence from Anyone at all in the Republican Party.
I don’t know if hashtags work on Bluesky or if people have just stopped using them but #coup #tyrant #revolution all seem like they could be useful. Oh, and #smalldicktator
Im sick of everyone saying Trump’s threats are chilling and people are afraid of him. He’s a coward acting illegally and his acts are constantly overturned by the courts. He can threaten from his phone all he wants, use his marker to sign orders, but he’s full of shit.
FDR said it best, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" I understand fear, I too am afraid, fear is a natural response to the adverse. But fear has never held America back from progress and it never will.
I know everyone would like some well known politicians to ride in on white horses to save us, but take a look at history. That's not how this works. WE, THE PEOPLE, have to grow frustrated enough & strong enough to topple it. We do it. Nobody else. So for now we're just giving him enough rope...
It is incomprehensible to me how so many alleged adults are actually intimidated by Trump and/or Elon!! When will people find a spine & stand up to them?? Trump IS A LITTLE WEENIE BOY & BACKS DOWN *EVERYTIME* SOMEONE STANDS UP TO HIM & HE REALLY GETS NERVOUS IF IT'S A WOMAN! MUSK IS JUST STUPID!!
I doubt any of them ever imagined a future where they were the quisling in the story
I can understand a CEO or University President wanting to speak but having a responsibility to protect their institution but what excuse does a politician have??
None in my book. Cowards
The GOP brought this on themselves. Turned a blind eye to threats against their Dem colleagues, election workers, etc. Could have stood together against his corruption/crimes - didn't. Could have voted to convict - nope. And silence won't protect them - he'll turn on them anyway. Too scared? Quit.
@chrismurphyct.bsky.social It’s about time to find a way for a renowned authority to reach out to the Obamas, the Clintons, the Bidens, Bush and even the Cheneys, and find out how they will be regrouping ASAP to stop the madness. Their (complicit?) silence is as maddening…
Idea: leave the “remade party” and aggregate around your “conservative principles” instead of placating a fascist bully that would not piss on you even if you were on fire.
Maybe because as soon as any one of them say anything, the story will be about them. The focus needs to be kept on the actions of Trump, DOGE, and the GOP.
Hey, everybody, he doesn’t have any clothes - or power.
If everyone sane in Congress and on Capitol Hill would stand together and say no, that would be that. He couldn’t even bear having a cane waved at him! Just make sure all of Elon’s baby mamas are at the front.
The low threshold for compliance in the US - from politicians, business leaders, the media, university presidents, etc - is one of the most extraordinary elements of the Trump second term. The triangular relationship between state, peoples and territory has broken down. Trump is filling the vacuum.
All the textbook features of competitive authoritarianism are there except for physical violence - there aren’t pro-Tump enforcers in the streets yet. Though given Jan 6 I can easily see the US going that way
I don’t know how many are actually afraid of trumputin or musk. They may actually be afraid of the maga cult though. For almost 10 years, maga loons have been out here stalking folks, doxxing, swatting and threatening people. Michael Fanone mom has been harassed at her home. How many others?
“When you see important societal actors — be it university presidents, media outlets, C.E.O.s, mayors, governors — changing their behavior in order to avoid the wrath of the government, that’s a sign that we’ve crossed the line into some form of authoritarianism,” said Steven Levitsky…”
You know who’s also afraid? People of color. Trans kids. Women. People in Ukraine. Seniors dependent on Medicare & SS or their 401(k)’s. People w/ cancer. Poor people who need snap & Medicaid to survive. All of our allies.
The NYT is one of a handful of institutions that actively sets the tone for public discourse. A lot of the faces and voices that make the news take their cues from the NYT.
If the NYT hadn't pretended that Trump 2 would be no big deal (what even is Project 2025?) a lot more people would have shown up. The NYT sets the tone of coverage and it's not useful to pretend they don't or that it doesn't have an impact.
I think the point was that they influence other outlets, and as much as we online weirdos hate to admit it, lots of people still get their news from regular sources for that to have had an impact.
I'm just skeptical. I was well named. I DOUBT a lot of things. On top of that, I am from Missouri, the Show Me State which means "show me [before I'll believe you]".
I do agree with you that they should have taken the lead and done more. They are the "leaders" of printed national news.
THIS is why we have to defeat Musk funded candidates, like the Democratic challenger to the Democratic mayor of Pittsburgh, & the Republican candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Beat them in the local races & show that he’s not all-powerful at all.
Everybody is either waiting for someone else to speak up or everyone is waiting for Trump to mess up so badly, that it’s ok to finally raise their voice(s).
The fear of burning at the stake of Trump’s tweets, Fox News, X, and the right social media sphere.
It's the normalization of Trump that the paper of record engaged in. It's not about who the readers are, it's about their consistent normalization of a moronic fascist.
We outnumber the fascists, REMIND them that they work for us, at our pleasure. It’s WE THE PEOPLE, not millionaires, billionaires and corporations. Do not obey in advance.
That's what you get when you install the world's richest man as defacto president, with the aid of the mortal enemy of the US since the 40s. Unlimited funds to sue and or threaten and or worse anyone who opposes them.
That’s why people need to be going after the little fish. Shame them and make them quit. This isn’t happening if the GOP had any courage but they’re feckless cunts
It would only take a hand full of them, < 10 in the House to take back the power they gave up and yet these "masters of the universe" type are all sniveling, PAB cowards.
But does that A) hurt him, B) influence him, C) cripple him?
At some point, he simply *must* not care.
It is about power, not about wealth.
He burrowed, hacked & infiltrated himself in by wealth, but that 'passive/static' wealth has now become an empty vessel, discarded means to a higher goal.
“Competitive authoritarianism.” Like, different authoritarians competing to see who can be the most authoritarian? This sounds like something you made up. Just call it what it is in plain English: authoritarianism.
It is a literal thing. It is Hungary, where there are elections but the opposition is actually part of the governing party and all real dissent is criminalized.
This is why everyone says Democrats have a problem with messaging: we/they just keep pulling new concepts out of of their ass, trying to come up with something that resonates and people just stop listening. This shit’s simple.
And Trump & the Rs show time and again that they can take action without a 60 seat majority in the Senate. They do things there base demands. The avg voter sees this & says Ds are wimps never do what they say on the campaign trail.
Their message & actions are ‘let the Rs overreach and then we win’
Rs are finding acquiescence to a mean, stupid bully is a slippery slope. It’s funny when he goes after others but terrifying when he has a rabid following & trains his sights on you. Obviously Rs are a cowardly bunch - with the exception of Cheney & Kinzinger.

1) Why am I hearing/seeing this now?
2) What impression is being created that is not actually being said?
3) What are they *not* talking about?
Learning the truth lies in seeking the answers to those questions.
All these delicate white people don't want to kick the hornet's nest, not realizing that the hornets are just going to come for them no matter what, sooner or later.
What’s deafening is the lack of concern and leadership from Hakeem Jeffries and the silence from Anyone at all in the Republican Party.
But somehow, those fucking spineless tought alpha-male Republicans are the ones shitting their pants.
Fucking pussies.
Fucking cowards.
(although with asymmetric (Venn-)overlap, among the good vs bad)
Spectacles of bluster, cheers & glitter at sport games, nauseating so with fake wrestling Kabuki, yet not having any spine to fight the real danger.
Yes, distorted/indoctrinated by media fascists, but still.

"How can you keep quiet? How do you have patience for people who claim they love America, but clearly can't stand Americans?"
Just recently re-watched it and it is still good.
If everyone sane in Congress and on Capitol Hill would stand together and say no, that would be that. He couldn’t even bear having a cane waved at him! Just make sure all of Elon’s baby mamas are at the front.
@schumer.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, any plans to fight back?
No, wait, straitjackets.
Not them running the asylum, but for sure bouncing around in there out of sheer joy.

Also, the unlimited concept of pardons almost *demand* capital punishment, to avoid cancer like this to grow back.
IF WE ALL DO NOT COMPLY, IT DOESN’T WORK.
AND THE QUICKER YOU CEASE COMPLYING, THE LESS THE DAMAGE.
How hard is this to figure out??
I agree with you, though.
I'm just not certain legacy media has much reach or influence anymore outside of those who readily already consume it.
I remember numerous Trump officials from his first administration speaking out that he'd be awful in a second term and it didn't seem to sway anybody>
I really get what you are saying but I'm a Doubting Thomas. I'm not sure low info voters would have seen it outside of NY.
I do agree with you that they should have taken the lead and done more. They are the "leaders" of printed national news.
Neither bravery nor cowardice exist without fear. Their inaction, or worse, their submission reveals which response they choose, every day.
Beat them in the local races & show that he’s not all-powerful at all.
This is basically a fight for the country’s existence and not for the feckless.
It took Putin over 15 years to get anywhere near that.
Now Trump-Musk are on the highway straight to fascism and the rule of fear.
The fear of burning at the stake of Trump’s tweets, Fox News, X, and the right social media sphere.
Nobody wants a Trumpian nickname!
Because no one is standing up to him he gets bolder and more destructive.
Don't cower, we are so much stronger than they are in reality.
The only way they win is of we believe their lies about how powerful they are.
For being a genius he's a fucking moron.
Idiot MAGAs might think Nazi salutes are edgy.
Tesla buyers, not so fucking much.
The fact that the board has not fired him, means the brand is dead.
There is no way back from this.
