Car salesman at a local Hyundai dealership today, after I asked him about the tariffs:
"It's terrible. The price of every vehicle is going to go up five or six thousand dollars... And here's the thing, even after they go away, think about it, they're not going to come back down again."

Americans are paying baggage fees, but our baggage is captain tangerine.
And people will also be staying home because they won't have a dime to spare
Thank you cheeto-man
We haven't even gotten to the damage all of this is going to do to disposable income yet, as more people lose jobs and can't buy things and stores close and more people lose jobs and can't buy things and -
It’s “Mexico will pay for the wall” round 2
I hate it here.
Didn’t trade in the old one because I knew this would happen.
Trumponomics writ large..!
An electric bike is a great answer for many.
The $5,000 line regarding the supply chain shortage was removed when I told the dealership they could fuck right off
The downside is they're going to start at $200,000.
This is so fucking elementary too.
- stop building vehicles at a loss
- immediately cancel all old models that are price frozen
- build new almost-identical models that can sell at higher prices
- call your new models “The Great Americans line” so the administration will be flattered
SURE,👌

We were definitely not alone.
I’m very concerned about my next door neighbor. He sells cars for a living. He’ll do very well for the next two months. After that?
Gas goes down, crickets...crickets.
😥💔😮💨😶
Tariffs are only for newly imported cars.
All cars already in the country should sell for the standard price.
They don't want underwater borrowers.
I noticed that about 2 years ago they started trading derivatives on car loans like they did with home loans in The Big Short.
Also, Bank loans has been a hot item in mutual funds.
In the absence of Lina Khan, those issues could go haywire.
But for now, it all hurts.
But don't worry, RFK wants to make people "voluntarily" work unpaid on farms. I'm sure they've got a plan for this too. 🙃
There will be no industry bailout again.
the inflationary pressure of this is going to be crazy
We have accomplished a good bit in our city ( I live in the desert southwest of the U.S) by doing just that.
Suburban areas, however, are structurally incompatible with non-car transit because they were all but intentionally designed to be hostile to it.
How do you create a cost effective and convenient public transportation system that has to take everyone everywhere?
Also, gentrification gets v bad around the train. Doesn't help who it's meant to
Everybody will be taking advantage of the excuse to raise prices. Even domestic brands.
The auto supply chain has been integrated in N. America since 1965. This is destroying in one day what took 60 years to build
It's easy to light fires. It's hard to build
These engines are going to cost Ford DOUBLE now due to tariffs
To $2.99.
That launched my lifelong hatred of corporate America.
Small example here. Our BC ferries added a “fuel tax” on their prices, as did most businesses, when gas prices skyrocketed.
Gas prices have come down, a lot. But they’re still all charging the fuel tax.
Prices will never go back down.
**Same applies to vehicle parts which are also covered by Trump's proposed new 25% tariffs.
I guess he wants people to stop buying cars from him, and I hope he gets it
It'll soar.
Yes, I know this affects those of us driving cars too, but let's be real, if you veer into the bike lane (see it almost daily here), you're maiming someone
I wouldn’t buy a teen anything but a pedal-assist, speed-limited, no-throttle e-bike though. And I would definitely look into installing ISA on any car a young man drove.
kid hauler totaled, it was like "these lease deals are too good to pass up"
the multiplicity of other things about it that are leaps and bounds better than every other vehicle I've ever spent time in -- even a $120,000 Lucid Air -- mean I haven't missed it yet tho
