Tech is technical. There's only so many people who will be obsessive about this to get good. It's not about "educating" it's about people choosing to be obsessive about it. And getting those people to work on the worlds hardest or at least most lucrative problems.
Yeah that's exactly it the dumbing of us down. But you see intelligence isn't everything wisdom goes a long way and intelligence isn't smart enough to figure that out yet
The problem is they aren’t so eager to please, like a puppy pissing themselves with excitement, to compete and win. It’s degrading to say the least. It’s also very unethical and downright embarrassing that billionaires would exploit marginalized people even more, to hoard more wealth.
We talk about billionaires as if they
were just a dangerous animal in the
wild like a lion or a crocodile. They
are a fundamental force of nature
as dangerous and all consuming
as any black hole drifting through
the universe...
There is one more aspect. When one comes in USA to work on visa, there are no protections. No abilities to complain about any abuse or workplace. The moment they do, they can lose employment and visa. So in a way, visa workers provide slave labor.
Many European centre-left parties realised this corporate exploitation of migrant workers over the last few years and, when they pivoted to opposing migration based on economic grounds, swiftly won back the "anti-migrant" bloc from the centre-right.
In Finland, where taxes are mandatory and unavoidable, Compulsory education is provided up to the age of 18, and it's not only free but also financially supported. Everyone has equal opportunities to pursue any profession they desire. The educational level is among the world's best
What kind of vocational training is there in the United States for working-class jobs? How are everyday heroes trained? In the movies, there is high school and universities.. jobs in Times Square
My district has a welding and riveting program set up as a direct feed into Boeing. Boeing saw the need and was instrumental in setting it up. The district also has programs that feed into nursing, hair and makeup, culinary arts, and more. Many high schools in WA state are set up the same way.
My son manages high rise construction sites
We took out loans - and he reroofed housed trained by boss to pay
He got four year education at state university
When I went to university finance was available for everyone accepted and cost was subsidized by feds
Many public school systems have robust vocational education programs that allow 11th & 12th graders who are not taking college placement courses to earn credentials in hotel & restaurant management, HVAC, EMT, construction trades, automotive, etc.
Almost every one of the "self-made" oligarchs who are pushing this new dystopian model are of a generation that benefitted from a far more equitable social contract re education than kids and parents today have. And it was precisely that social contract that made America great in the first place.
Having worked multiple different industries, the bulk of which consistent of retail/sales, there is no real training. You’re lucky if you get so much as an hour to be shown the ropes and any shadow time depending on the company. Some have training videos I suppose?
In my state over the past 10 years they have started vocational training programs in maybe 5-10 schools. They train students in various trades in the last years of HS at an offsite school with some required classes at the school. The final classes are completed after graduation for trade jobs
Some areas have vocational training in high schools, but in most places there are trade schools or certification programs in 2 year colleges/community colleges for skilled trades (HVAC, Auto mech, etc). Other things...hope a coworker will teach you enough to not get fired.
Many public school systems have robust vocational training in construction trades, automotive, HVAC, hotel & restaurant management, EMT training, and more.
That’s true, as public schools are funded by property taxes. In townships with neighborhoods of McMansions the tax base is high and provides $ for schools. In townships where there are few homes owned (apartment buildings, businesses) the homes that do exist are often of lower assessed value, so
I’m sure it is, given that there is no national curricular minimum. Indiana has vocational training, community college, and department of workforce development.
This varies. From state to state. And then from school district to school district (districts are like cities or municipalities) and then neighborhood to neighborhood. And some of it sucks.
Oh please you get free PUBLIC school education up to 18 in the US which sets you up in most states for getting the minimum wage which in most states is NOT enough to live on. Many European countries get free college where they can hope for a decent living and better quality of life.
Sounds good, Here in Finland, even the poorest unemployed families have to send their children to school until they get a vocational qualification. If you have the desire, you can get 2 degrees. Education leading to a degree is always free.
Finland has one of the best education and social systems in the world. My brother did his Master’s in Helsinki. Aside from culture shock from riding the train (flat affect and very little emotive displays) he enjoyed his time there.
So on a state-by-state basis the US could match Finland's achievements in education.
Anyway, it doesn't mean that some of the principles of their approach to education, etc. can't be considered. Especially in the "greatest nation on Earth"?
Finland has also been the happiest nation in the world for many years, while at the same time its suicide rates are the highest in the world relative to its population 🤔😐
Well, they're practically in the Arctic, and adjacent to Russia, so what can you expect? Was drinking tea with Putin involved at all?
Would you like to check your sources, though?
The Wikipedia data for 2019 hardly has them as having the highest suicide rate (#38), and lower than the US(#31).
A country that is part of the NATO defense alliance hardly drinks tea with Mr. P. Trump will then tell you how the tea tasted and what a nice guy Putin is when he organized the elections just right again.
We have that too, at least in NY. Free high quality public education until you graduate high school at age 17-18. You can also take vocational classes in high school if you want, like mechanics, welding, plumbing, cosmetology….its free.
Americans have labor protections and the ability to unionize.
H1Bs don't and can't.
If you've been fighting against unionization for years from american workers, it only makes sense(if you're a POS) to go after those that do not have the ability to fight against gilded age tactics.
“They work harder”
Translation:
“we can terrorize them with the threat of deportations. If they don’t do the work of 3 people for half the salary of one”
And then when the H1B hire gets too old to be useful or burns out or gets injured, just send them back to their own country! No need to fund programs like Social Security that take care of people who can no longer work.
This is what I've been saying. It's not that we don't have the numbers, it's that we don't have the structure. Unions helped organize workers. That's what made worker's unions a problem.
Being structured and disciplined can help a vastly outnumbered side win every time.
Do H1B worker's spouses still have to be on this goofy visa that doesn't allow them to work anywhere w punishment for working being deportation, as it used to be the case? So not only unable to organize, but held hostage by their employers because, if their job goes, their whole family is fucked
They are the managers who fire 2 people from the crew and just expect the other members to pick up the slack and not hire new members. Then, discipline the employees when they point this obvious issue with production out. 🤦♂️
President Eisenhower warned in 1961: "Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together." Be knowledgeable: https://youtu.be/9uJHCK5nkec?si=pu8xBovcyyfCH1kg
MAGAts are busy bad mouthing refugees & have no clue about student demographics at US universities where tech & sciences are rated best. Univ cartel deans get rich off legal foreigners paying higher tuition than they'd charge Americans, while minimizing opportunities for underprivileged Americans.
Apologies, but I don't think the day education gets fixed isn't very close.
That aside, a rapid evolution of the current workforce and its skillsets (retraining) are needed to prevent massive job losses. Let's see who will address this.
Most peoples favorite books are either from the old testament or Paul's writings. The first 4 books of the New testament, what Jesus actually Did & Said are the least read.
TLDR The person around whom the religion centers is the least read about.
Aah, but what if the Bible lessons you learn are from The Educated Bible of the Educated religion, that teaches you how to get far in an educated world (by learning with an open mind and questioning authority), and also how to thrive in an uneducated world (by not falling into the traps)?
You're probably right.
Of course changes usually happen first in small amounts. So there's always hope for a positive change. After all, people were far more divided, violent and uneducated. In the big arc of history we are less so over time despite the information people consume. Bots love softies.
They come in small amounts...
Until they don't.
We've had singularities before, and I think we are leading up to a major one.
Can you not feel it building?
And when the avalanche starts, the pebbles will begin to dislodge boulders
Says who? Bill the Spectrum Rhino, the non protagonist, non-Prophet of the Educated Religion, said there is. And his statements are usually valid within 1 standard deviation.
I know it's true as I read it in the complementary Addendum To The Educated Bible which denies its own alleged infallibility.
Or maybe it exists and you have just never heard of it.
Like all those people who never heard of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Or all the people who have no idea who Lisa the Rainbow Giraffe is.
Just because the religion I wrote of it miniscule in its follower count, does not mean it's not real! 🤣
I can’t count how many times an idiot MAGA says “Oh yeah? Prove it. Show me the proof!” Um how about no, fuck you?!? It was YOUR duty as a citizen to do your homework before voting!!
It's really more like: "Guys from other countries are cheaper and we can fire them easier." Just ask Elon who fired 6,000 people in Twitter and made it lose it's worth. It's not at all about education or ability. It's about lying. The idea that we have some of the best secondary schools/1
in the world. Yet somehow we are not able to have developers that can write code is laughably wrong. It's about: "Who costs the least to do the work." Elon also fired workers in Ireland and had to pay fines in one case I remember for unfair dismissal. Ireland's Workplace Relations Commission/2
said you cannot fire by spam email and have people NOT DO A THING and therefore they are terminated. This was insane and still is. It's not about skill AT ALL. It's about hiring the cheapest workers and lying about it. All while while claiming you are for the US.
So, is the plan just to like, wait until some magical fairy just swoops in and fixes America? Because it sure looks like everything is going downhill pretty fast and everybody seems to be, sort of, spectating.
Why do we call them “bros”? They want that title. In reality, these guys are all so socially inept that they have no friends to be bros with. They just cosplay as cool kids. Their behavior is based on what they imagine the cool kids in high school were doing while they were sitting at home, alone.
Trump voters don't yet know that they voted for the opposite of what they believed. Fewer immigrants? More. Less taxes on the middle class? More. Less crime? More. Pay less for eggs? More. No bread and circuses, just circuses.
They still have reserves of hate food because Trump has fed them. He continues to do so, and will continue to do so because it is the only way to sustain his incompetence and evil, but some, I hope, will soon wake up.
We are starting to see cracks forming in the facade that the Maga followers have been fed. You can only fool the people so much, especially the second time around. Eventually an awakening will occur. A haven’t I been promised this before yet got none of it. You can’t promise and not give forever.😊😏
Trump voters united to take power, but only with thin threads. Some believe that they have undertaken a cultural battle, when in reality it is only monetary and to save their leader from jail. I do not believe that the union will last because the bad guys are also bad guys among themselves.
GOP always provides its voters w an urgent culture war cover for their permanent aim: removing regulations that protect their own voters & directing more money to the already rich.
Just tell them it's about preschool books depicting gay sex in graphic photos & they'll run to vote R. Decades of it.
After seeing MAGA's powers of denial, I respectfully disagree. Since 2015 the majority has gone along with every lie without question despite some of them being harmful to their interests.
I don't question their ability to keep doing it and I'm curious about when the trance will break. A few? All?
One look at Project 2025 policies alone should be enough reason to not vote for him. MAGAs really do not want women’s rights or abortions rights or a solid education system? Come on!!!
Musk clearly said that it is cheaper to bring people from other countries than to educate Americans. What does the human matter, what does the country matter? Only money matters. Maybe money provides immortality...
You understand the problem perfectly right. They don’t want to fund education because it is way easier to control idiots. But it turns out you can’t really make your business successful hiring idiots.
I have managed teams of developers for projects you probably use every day. Under client financial pressure, we hired Indian developers because they were paid 1/10th the hourly rate of Americans. Their code dumps failed every QA test and required constant rewriting. In the end, they cost much more.
I was at AT&T when Lucent spun off. In order to increase the projected ROI, they brought in IGS H1-Bs to replace all the American support staff. It was a case of train your replacement or get out. All the network engineers said fuck you and went to Wall St where they immediately quadrupled their $$!
They take and they take and they take, then they have the nerve to tell you that nobody owes you anything. Yet they don't get it as to why they are on bottom of the bottom rung of the ladder.
I read a few comments and people don’t seem to get the whole awful picture. Business profits totally rely on hiring already-educated people. Business doesn’t do the education, and business avoids almost all taxes. THEY ARE FREE RIDING. Now they are hijacking foreign education as well!
They BASH the education system THEY HAVEN’T FUNDED as an excuse. Economists know all this. Free-riding is an economics concept. But we’ve been propagandized that “it’s teachers’ fault” and other garbage about American children’s characteristics. Stop valorizing business! They’re cheaters.
Yes yes, but you missed the "I'd rather have slave labor from over seas for pennies on the dollar that I can threaten with deportation or imprisonment if they dare ask for better pay/safety."
What I love about this image is that the rich guy isn't hiding anything. The white worker isn't being duped. He is looking at the situation, and agrees that the black man is the problem.
Exactly! These tech people and doctors from other countries got a FREEEEEE education. I know because I’ve worked cleaning their houses. They also can’t vote. So this system creates multiple problems. We should not only blame America’s education system but the companies who hire them!
Instead of getting rid of it, reform the whole system! Abandon the “no child left behind” policy and make it so people actually have to put in effort to graduate schools and colleges!
Ya they’ll pay, at reduced rates for immigrant labor. But then they’ll also deport immigrants providing labor for countless other industries. Techbros…
Nothing like complaining that the educated are the problem, attacking educational institutions, wanting to abolish the DoE; in the next breath we aren't smart enough for tech jobs! As a nation, WE CANNOT COMPETE GLOBALLY W/O AN EDUCATED POPULATION! Not 1/2 the population or only the kids w/$$$!
My nephew has his degrees in computer science and specializes in AI. But he can’t find a full-time job. Instead, he chases temporary contracts around the country. He considering a move to Canada.
This video is interesting. My AI company is relocating to Ireland and Japan because the US is invalidating AI patents. We invented a revolutionary AI that can run on a CPU and solve problems that all the compute power on Earth would be unable to solve in trillions of years.
He should! There are some great AI industries here in the big cities. Even at my University, we are throwing a lot of money into AI (he could apply to be a Master’s student here).
Yeah it's the same for me. I have a programming job doing random stuff all the time. Fix this cert, track down these credentials, set up this connection or pipeline, blah, blah, but actual coding I'm so rusty
Me too. So what I do is each time I do one of these odd jobs I try to code some of the steps at some level with the thought that next time I do a similar task I'll have my own coded tool to help.
After many years of this type of work, I finally lucked into a team that took a large, heavily used windows app from 50% done to completion, then a web portal from the ground up, looking at some actual coding work in new to me languages now. Worked on amazing teams 10 out of my 11.5 years here. But
Let AI do that for you. Most of these companies don't understand half of what we do. For 2025 I plan to generate a shitload of content cus I stopped giving a fuck
I worked for AT&T for 22+ yrs. When I started, I was trained both in house, and sent to outside training. I was a Unix and system programmer already - but they gave me more to be better for the company. Over the years I saw this die, and training budgets dried up. Quality left the building long ago.
Starting in the 80s some radical economists were able to convince CEOs that the only purpose that corporations serve is to make money for investors immediately this quarter without concern for longevity of the company or any concern for its ethical position
TBF I think that was always the definition of the firm, but spreadsheets came out and don’t really make it easy to model abstractions like “murdering children”, “shitting in the water supply”, or “killing the cash cow.”
Sure make it easy to see this quarter’s profit though.
That's free market. Import engineers from countries where education is cheaper or free. It's capitalism! If they do it with phones and cars and etc etc, do it with people.
Shameless bastards.
"They want to shut down the Department of Education, leaving Americans less educated and unprepared for high-skill jobs. Meanwhile, they push to increase H-1B visa workers, who can be underpaid and controlled by the threat of deportation. This weakens American workers and exploits vulnerable labor."
Americans allow their elected and non-elected officials to misallocate resources and steal funds, especially education funds. Americans love fighting and hating each other for the approval of their two-party treason system. Education teaches against all that, so Americans instead abandon education.
The US allocates shit tons of money to education. 2024 is shaping up to be around 180bn dollars in support of education in the US. The states decide how their share of the money is allocated and that's where the problem lay. If a works project needs funding and all that money is just lying there...
Do you have to group Felon with the late Steve Jobs? I know Steve could be challenging to work with, but he was a perfectionist who delivered amazing keynotes. Felon, on the other hand, not impressed I was actually embarrassed for him when he announced the cybertruck
I don’t think I was feeling pity for anyone. I just nicely asked for a different comparison, maybe Fuckerberg or Bezos. There have only been two people who indirectly impacted my life through their work and inspired me.
Americans Educated Enough To Take Tech. Jobs At Elon’s Tesla. Elon’s Can Keep Employees Bc. He Expects Employees To Work For Low Wages, No Benefits, No Workers Safety Regulations And 7 Days A Week And Only Paid For 5 Days.
Trump/GOPs Policies Are Also This Same Slave Labor Expected Of Americans!
This is what's crazy, not just about that non tech, business hoarder, but rich people who don't pay taxes and poor people licking boots. Businesses benefit from an educated populace. They need to pay more in taxes for that benefit.
I've been cringing about this for a while. so many imports while Americans are left behind. It's been going on for decades and why no one can afford higher education without huge loans. Totally fine for foreign students to get scholarships and subsidies, but not for Americans. Shameful.
And there you have it for those who thought he was the next big idea! He does not care who he tramples over, he just wants to get to the top! Yes war with America and has his putin russia troops to back him up! Soon maybe others from other countries cuz he is also messing with elections in Italy +…
"I will go to war with Americans so that I don't have to hire Americans."
The South tried this and when it was all over, they were forced to start paying their workers.
Correct. The dumbing down of America has been happening for decades. 50% of this country is 90% stupid, and Republicans planned this for control. Now that the stupid has put a 34-count convicted felon, rapist in our WH, the GOP will rake in major profits.
Yup. Why pay a locally competitive wage for programmers when you can pay near minimum wage to foreigners for the same work?
Notice how companies always tell you to not talk about your pay rate with other workers?
This is why I am on SNAP now: a) my own student loan debt, and b) paying for my children's BS degree level so they don't have to go into debt they can't get out from under.
Now I'm looking for a bankruptcy lawyer... But at least my children don't have to go through this BS for a BS.
You mean, you can buy a piece of paper that says you're qualified and get into debt.
Where's if you train for free, make things and network doors will open much more quickly!
Nearly half of four-year graduates graduate debt-free; of the remainder, the average debt is around $30k, which costs about $4k/year to pay off in ten years. The college wage premium is about $30k/year.
Selecting a line of work that doesn’t require a degree and still pays well is an option. Say you save $50k/yr on tuition and average $60k in your first 4 years of work, you are $440k ahead of a grad day 1. 20 years invested in $SPY $440k =~ $3m. Debt free just means someone paid.
Wrong on so many levels... While this horribly oppressive system has you hating immigrants for "taking jobs" that they willingly give to prison inmates but charge prices as if the goods and services are produced by fairly paid individuals... Enough is ENOUGH
I grew up on stories from my mother about two of her brothers who after their bachelor their new employers PAID for them to get their masters so they'd have the skills their employers needed. I love that those same brothers now are Republicans /s
And I know that they've been told, and believe what they were told, that if we'd just cut taxes on business they'd do it again, instead of realizing and accepting that the tax cuts given & mergers that followed destroyed competition and ALLOWED them to stop offering anything like it.
Exactly!!! Followed by 'I will go to WAR on this issue, the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend. '
WHY aren't we reacting to this imminent threat of terrorism against the American People!
They instantly LOCKED UP the girl who said 'DefendDenyDepose' to an insurance co.
ELON gets: 🦗
But they do hire Americans. In particular, SpaceX hired one of my former Differential Equations students. One that got a C. I wish I was joking. But I’m not.
I actually still talk to him once in awhile. He’s a good kid. Well, not a kid anymore. He told me it clicked for him later. Nothing wrong with that. Some topics took me a long time to figure out, too.
Not fast enough though. . .
We need them to turn on their beloved master dipshit.
That's the ONLY way we get this country back without a civil war. And we haven't got a lot of time. They will drive the division into the ground when they get into office.
It's also such a big part of the Right's narrative that education and especially the sciences in particular are bad and not to be trusted. So you have generations of kids that will not be educated and unable to fill the roles that the country needs to be safe much less competitive.
San Fransisco is still the best place in the world to build successful software companies. It is the main advantage the US has built over the EU in the last 30 years (in terms of GDP growth and tech dominance).
It's much cheaper to outsource education to less expensive countries and import the particular skills sought. An additional feature of this model is that when the particular skills become less than useful, they are easily discarded. It's the basic throw-away model that runs the Capitalist system.
It cause the American right make religious matters political that why I hate the fact non religious women can’t have abortions cause Christians decided there bad not cause science did
Same happened in the UK under Johnson and Sunak who allowed 2 million people in on skilled visas, and rates in tech have collapsed (in the UK they were pretty shit even before).
Correct, even when these tech bros haven't done anything except discover more annoying ways to serve us ads and mine/sell our data. Gone are the days of anything useful coming out of the valley...
Looking at some of thje nazi zionists on this site.....I can agree with the "fuck off". They don't even understand definitions from Oxford English dictionary.....Talk about dumb!
Worked in tech most of my life. Getting a company to train people has been rare and often difficult. They'd rather poach someone with those skills from another company than invest in the people they have (and then be afraid those people will be poached by other companies).
Exactly, but you must retrain yourself constantly. Otherwise, your skills get obsoleted quickly, and you can lose economic viability within 20 years. You will be 45 years old with a worthless resume.
The scorning and mockery of educated coastal "elites" seems to be a selling point among the under-achievers. Even Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, who attended ivy league universities, participate in the charade. They are defiantly unabashed hypocrites.
To continue what the bigger one is saying: Fuck off. They have demands. Educate yourself little fucker. I learned more on a 6 month placement on my mom's trading floor than I did in all my schooling. They want me to give them money. For them to give to you. Communism, of course.
Haven’t heard that, but it sounds consistent with his pathology. He doesn’t have the education he claimed; just like trump. They hate educated people who can see straight through their bullshit about their education
The county is live in tried to get a tech school for high school level kids but people here wouldn't have it. We could have been the go-to place for tech learners but the folks here couldn't see the advantage of it. All I could do is /facepalm.
Obama set up a huge fund for coal workers to be retrained and only a small percentage to advantage of it. So many of Americans do not want to be educated.
I don't know anyone in Europe making six figures in my role, while in the US that's the starting salary.
That being said, you get a lot more for your dollar overseas. 4€ is a good croissant and an espresso based drink. In the US that doesn't even cover half the cost.
Well that would be because we are charged an arm and a leg for literally everything. Housing and groceries take up more than half of most people's paychecks. Healthcare is unaffordable for everyone but the top 10%. Someone in the US can make $100k a year and still go bankrupt trying to live.
The workplace matters. A friend worked at plastic extruusion factory 9one that makes bottles, plates, packaging) somewhere in Salt lake City area. They work 12-14 hours per dayin room where temperature varies from 40C to 50C.
Lots of workers had died from heart issues. OSHA doesn't care, there is no regulations about that.
In Eu, in Russia, even in China the owner would get multiple criminal charges. That's not just health risk. That's lethally dangerous conditions
No l, the point is not highly educated people. The point is indentured servitude. People working on H-1Bs are not allowed to quit their job or they get deported. They will also work for lower wages and less benefits than Americans. This is the new age outsourcing.
It's the same position that has driven the US oligarchy for decades: "If Americans want jobs, then they have to accept being paid and treated like Chinese labor."
Another reason we need immigrants. Who else will fill the jobs that Americans are too stupid to qualify for? Not only do we need immigrants to take the jobs Americans don’t want (picking fruit, etc.), we need them for the jobs Americans don’t know how to do.
When you analyze the education statistics globally, you see that Americans are not in the top ten. Now add the fact that you need to borrow money to attend college even if you score high academically. You will be in debt for 20 years or more. Then everyone asks why we need international brains 🧠?
You're correct. Now go back to about 1983 and the "No Child Left Behind" Act. This legislature led the federal government to tie funding to test results, the tests primarily being multiple choice. So teachers taught to the tests; critical thinking skills went by the wayside. Dumbing down of America.
Absolutely correct, and now we have brain drain in the USA and all these smart people coming in that received an education for next to nothing as it is funded in their countries.
“International brains” have long been an excuse to drive down wages in STEM fields in the USA - so those kids will have a harder time with huge student loans. Especially when RepugliKKKans kill any effort to alleviate the huge student loans.
I say help Americans with student loans and let brains from all over the world come in. STEM unemployment in the US is almost non-existent and new start up and solutions are creating new jobs all the time
Total concocted BS - just ask any older American in STEM over age 50. I just left Intel where we were all replaced by cheap H1Bs or to Intel India offshore
Im in STEM and over 50, you have to keep evolving, nothing new. STEM positions have been always been hard on older workers who don't develop management skills, even back in the day, young people, new technology
I think this take is a little divorced from reality. Tech as a sector has layed off almost half a million employees flooding the market. There is no shortage of people complaining that they can’t find a job with 10+ years of experience. Foreign brains is not a necessity or a solution.
There have been some hard years like 2003, but overall its one of the best careers anyone can get, I know this from doing it for over 30 years myself. I have almost always have a near wealthy income and the flexibility to work anywhere in the world.
So you are saying the problem is the education system is bad, but rather "grabbing by the source" and fixing it, they go and get cheaper workforce, who were taught better and cheaper?
No wonder they voted for trump AGAIN in Dumbfuckistan and the elite likes it this way.
You are right, what needs to happen is an increase of spending for education. Make College affordable again. Invest in America instead of outsourcing our brains.
That’s going to bite him in the arse hard. You don’t slap the Maga monster on the face and expect to keep your hand. So much for the genius of musk, he’s a blithering idiot when it comes to understanding people, mainly because he’s always fired alternated views from his companies.😉
Oh for sure! As a survivor of the first Trump administration, I can tell you one of his Cardinal rules was: “don’t ever offend the people who support me.” It didn’t matter if they were Nazis, skin heads, criminals, if they were Trumpers he never said a bad thing about them.
We’ll always need people that can build things, but right now most of those jobs go to Spanish-speaking immigrants. Drive by any home construction site and you’ll hear it. Where does that leave Americans?
This is true. Now if the government really wanted to cut the numbers of undocumented workers all it would have to do is send ICE Agents on raids at job sites and charge companies that hire them $20,000 per infraction, no excuses, but that’s an economy killer.
Immigrants do jobs that Americans don’t want to do. They contribute to the economy. We should have a highly educated workforce that benefits our country. We need Americans with critical thinking skills. Having skills to build and create will always be in demand.
I agree, but we’re getting squeezed on both ends of the spectrum. As we price people out of college and those same people reject unskilled employment, the answer on both ends is immigrant labor. All of this is compounded by a low birth rate and good old American racism. We are our own worst enemy.
Stop with that worn out trope. We aren't getting a highly educated force when people keep exploiting uneducated immigrants, as many are. Why aren't we investing in our citizens' education? Why are there 100k plus unemployed American tech workers who are highly qualified and not able to jobs?
“Spanish-speaking immigrants” don’t count as Americans? Would you have said the same about Italian-speaking immigrants? Irish Catholics? Swedes? Chinese-speaking railroad workers?
No disrespect intended, but that’s just who I have personally encountered. I had a guy from Guatemala doing work on my house who gave me some inside information.
Do you honestly think that’s the answer? The quality and cost of American trade labor is the problem. Anyone who’s been ripped off by contractor knows that.
Plenty of Americans also speak spanish. The overwhelming majority of my classmates who spoke Spanish were born and raised in the US. Yes, companies will use illegal immigrants for cheep labor in some sectors. You take their papers, and threaten to deport them if they don't accept your shit wages.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 20% of American households speak a second language other than English. I’m not sure if that accounts for the plenty of Americans who also speak Spanish, but it should certainly be a second official language in this country.
We all come from immigrants one way or another and just because they speak a foreign language to each other doesn’t mean they are not ‘American’ or ‘illegal’. This is the problem with so many people if one is not ‘Caucasian’ they’re not ‘American’?
Now UR just being obstinate. But if you want to be technical the First migration shows their DNA is closely shared W/ East Serbia and Asia via land bridges Of course there are other migrations throughout history & validated by
archaeological studies They are the First people here’Americans’
Starting in Africa with our early hominin relatives (who are more closely related to us than to chimpanzees), visitors will travel forward in time to meet our ancient human relatives as they spread into Europe and Asia.
lol, and I’m the one being obstinate? How many millions of years did you go back for this one? Why not just keep going backwards until you get to Africa?
Americans who want to work construction have no problem finding jobs. Immigrants aren't replacing Americans, they're creating jobs, paying into SS w/o receiving benefits, and helping the economy. We've always been a nation of immigrants. We're the melting pot of the world. It's what makes us great.
It's immigrants wanting to send money home to their families that are willing to roof a house in 100 degree plus temperatures. I see it all the time. They're not displacing a bunch of Americans who were jonesing to climb up there in those conditions.
if you find any white men doing manual labor work it because they just came out of drug rehab. That’s what happen to majorly white people become drugs swept through their communities like roaches 🪳 and they yelling for more drug treatment facilities. Where was outcry for blacks during the 70’/80’s
If you aren't Native American in North America, then you're either an immigrant, or you come from immigrants.
It's that freakin' simple.
And I really wish some of these morons would take an ancestry test so they can SEE. Because their results sure as shit aren't gonna come back "white American".
How do you know that they’re not Americans? Where I live Spanish is the second most spoken language followed by Farsi and by American born people that are descended of foreigners.
Just. Like. You. Are.
AI can't preform physical labor, and automation isn't really viable for anything that doesn't take place within a controlled space (ex. A factory). You can get a robot to assemble a car in a factory, you can't really get one to come to your house & fix your pipes.
That's not true at all. Americans aren't too dumb for higher education. There are plenty of Americans who are educated enough to fill the jobs given to immigrants on H1B visas. It's about control employees dependent on their jobs to stay here don't ever rock the boat, never disagree with management.
Lot of those trades aren't really gonna go away. Unless robots get both significantly better and significantly cheeper, they just aren't viable in a lot of trades beyond manufacturing. I don't think we're gonna have robot plumbers in 2055.
The advances in AI in just a short amount of time beg to differ. We need college educated to invent and create robots that do plumbing and other menial tasks that we control.
It'll take more than brains. It's just more convenient to use a guy you can pay a salary than it is to invest in a robot, unless someone finds a way to make them dirt cheep.
They import workers at a lower rate. Indians won’t want to unionise or upset the apple cart they are very submissive and will give in to any kind of abuse to keep their jobs. I can say this cause I am Indian and I know how quick they are to bare their throats, well not me; raised different.
We thought we were past being a nation built on the broken backs of those with no choice, but, without education, we are condemning our citizens to be a nation of indentured servants who die for the pleasure and whims of oligarchs. Breaking backs to build a railroad are now broken for a Mars dream.
Every kid has access to a Chromebook in our school. They rolled out remote learning day 1 of COVID lockdown. I didn't even realize they are Title 1 due to lots of low income kids. We have some of the best outcomes in the state.
Throwing money at education does not work if you piss it away on DEI and not teaching he basics 4 out of every 10 children entering High School in he US can't read or write.
They want foreign workers so they can exploit them and not pay a qualified American a living wage🧐😳😤There not only taking advantage of them they’re taking advantage of every American 🇺🇸 🤯Thieves 🤌 🫳 Greed
You nailed it. All this discourse revolving around Americans being uneducated just plays into his goofy narrative.
There are masses of talented, brilliant engineers and techies in America. The problem is pay and subservience. They're much harder to bully and short change.
The U.S. is ranked third in the world for graduating engineers. Around 120,000 graduate each year with engineering degrees from some of the best universities in the world. Elon's narrative is a fairy tale he hopes Republicans will buy into so he can hire cheap foreign labor.
Unfortunately at least in IT tech, Canada is an awful place to work. Our wage suppression is very real. I'm just about forced to look for remote work in the United States to achieve a middle class salary.
This is not so simple, I am almost done with my Canadian PhD in AI and the best place to go to is the bay area. The most ambitious people like to go there for their career. I am German and there is nothing comparable in the EU. I agree on educating people and basic social welfare for everyone.
Hopefully no one believes we don’t have educated talent in this country. Hubs & I worked in healthcare IT most of our careers & the only reason the USA hires from other countries is cheap labor. WE were then burdened with the fallout of poor support, training & keeping the peace among US clients 😡
Companies don’t want to invest in their employees.
And the rich don’t want to pay taxes to properly educate our workforce.
And our public educational system is not structured to teach the skills needed to compete in this economy.
Jeff! How can they possibly support Free. Public. Education? Education needs to be parceled off to the highest bidder! Much more reasonable to import people who are already educated! That way they've leveraged the investment on education./s (But it is what they want.)
Trump’s administration has flat-out said that they’ll also target “naturalized citizens” if they made errors on their paperwork however many years ago.
The cruelty, and the racism, is the point.
under guise of scorning elite institutions while banging the drum for trades, these special interest ayn rand fantasists have been at it for years. using phony discrimination claims, they ironically go on to attack credentialing and licensure- driving down trade wages necessary for upward mobility.
Mass economic migration to drive down wages has always been driven by the Conservative right. It’s astonishing they’ve been so successful in convincing many people that the left are to blame.
So this is what you open with. Give you some advice. Politics being like 90% of your personality is... Makes it hard to take any of your political status seriously.
All of this! The economic ignorance in which this discussion is being held is embarrassing.M mocks the ignorance which says something as he’s not exactly bright. But there’s no pushback on his lies? Many on the left just believe him&care more re being anti-xenophobic than facts🙄

Tech is technical. There's only so many people who will be obsessive about this to get good. It's not about "educating" it's about people choosing to be obsessive about it. And getting those people to work on the worlds hardest or at least most lucrative problems.

So the political differences between the two countries are too great to allow for any meaningful comparison.
Anyway, it doesn't mean that some of the principles of their approach to education, etc. can't be considered. Especially in the "greatest nation on Earth"?
Would you like to check your sources, though?
The Wikipedia data for 2019 hardly has them as having the highest suicide rate (#38), and lower than the US(#31).
H1Bs don't and can't.
If you've been fighting against unionization for years from american workers, it only makes sense(if you're a POS) to go after those that do not have the ability to fight against gilded age tactics.
Look up "right to work" states.
Translation:
“we can terrorize them with the threat of deportations. If they don’t do the work of 3 people for half the salary of one”
Being structured and disciplined can help a vastly outnumbered side win every time.

That aside, a rapid evolution of the current workforce and its skillsets (retraining) are needed to prevent massive job losses. Let's see who will address this.
Most Americans, theist, atheist, or antitheist, Don't actually study the Bible.
As a mythology nerd, I read the Bible often like I read the Poetic Edas of Norse mythology or the Iliad by Homer. Pretty interesting anthology.
TLDR The person around whom the religion centers is the least read about.
Which reeks of manipulation.... Of some kind .
Of course changes usually happen first in small amounts. So there's always hope for a positive change. After all, people were far more divided, violent and uneducated. In the big arc of history we are less so over time despite the information people consume. Bots love softies.
Until they don't.
We've had singularities before, and I think we are leading up to a major one.
Can you not feel it building?
And when the avalanche starts, the pebbles will begin to dislodge boulders
I know it's true as I read it in the complementary Addendum To The Educated Bible which denies its own alleged infallibility.
Like all those people who never heard of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Or all the people who have no idea who Lisa the Rainbow Giraffe is.
Just because the religion I wrote of it miniscule in its follower count, does not mean it's not real! 🤣
Prove your claim and I'll accept it. Make a baseless claim and I'll just reject it and move on. I don't need to consider the possibility.
I was just havin' a laugh, Pat.

I don't question their ability to keep doing it and I'm curious about when the trance will break. A few? All?
And the foreign workers will do anything to keep their jobs.
They even had the American engineers training their replacements as part of the severance package.
The companies had the money. They wanted more and screwd American workers.
People spend all that money to get engineering degrees.
Then you work your azzes off and get burned out getting projects established at companies.
Then the companies reward you by giving you the shaft & outsourcing your job at lower wages.
Sometimes these workers live in a company home with others. They have company cars too.

Biden wouldn’t have worried about illegal immigration if Trump had kept his promise.
Republicans are helped by illegal workers far more than Dems.
"You have to do whatever I say and if you report ANYTHING its back to Venezuela with you? Sign me up."
Republicans are just trying to get to a system where they can treat YOU like that as well.
Libturd.... Heh
What I'm saying is only Republicans own businesses that explicitly benefit on a mass scale from illegal workers.
Type of businesses Republicans and Democrats own tend to be different. When they do overlap the run differently typically.
Granted every citizen benefits from it.
Because what I typed and how you to responded aren't matching.
There's a total of four paragraphs. Can you point out a flaw in any of them?
They can't report anything, because they are legal immigrants will get deported immediately.
The Republican party has very much been union busting crippling workers ability to organize.
