Good episode. Der Kindestod was appropriately creepyscary. Buffy’s vulnerability while sick showed how strong she was as a person, foreshadowing the Helpless in s3 when she was able to slay the demon. Also some nice character story with Xander facing down Angelus which further the storyline w Cordy.
It's amazing how different people remember Willie Garson! Such an awesome actor that I wish hadn't passed away. He's always Mozzie from White Collar for me and I forgot he was the security guard in Buffy!
I absolutely love Buffy. I guess, as a woman who has been abused, I love stories that show a small woman kicking evil's ass. If you aren't talking about THIS Buffy, never mind, lol.
It’s been about a decade but I’ve watched every episode at least twice. I also own the soundtrack to once more with feeling in iTunes. I understand and relate to hype fixations and being genuinely excited about things. So if you want to info dump… just reply. I’ll provide my insights.
I did own the dvd box set at one point in time. I did get James Marsters to sign a picture at a Comic con. I was dressed as a zombie protesting the walking dead show. He signed it “eat me” instead of Bite me due to my costume.
It was fun. I was walking around with a sign that read “end violence against zombies”. The comic con was as suppose to have most of the walking dead cast (but only the kid who played Carl showed up). I think James Marsters was brought in as a last minute replacement.
There is a TV movie he was in that I thought was good called Moonshot. He plays Buzz Aldrin. Mike Collins is played by Andrew Lincoln. It’s basically a dramatization of Apollo 11.
I am always 2 steps away from thinking about Buffy, I am always 3 steps away from thinking about Spike. I am always one step away from punching Xander in the throat 😇
There's a lovely podcast with the weirdos from the Morbid Podcast called The ReWatcher where they go through episode by episode (one host watched it originally and the other has never seen it). I really like it and their takes on the show.
i had to leave for a long time bc i couldn’t enjoy fanning over those 2 series once i knew what an abuser Joss was. in last year i came back bc i want to honor the actors as storytellers and their life work in spite of that abusive prick.
I get chills thinking of how everything shakes out in the final season; the whole Buffy ethos is distilled into one line she says during the final battle, a bit of a spoiler so I won’t say it but when I heard it, I thought, “Ah, of course.”
The craziest thing, outside of the fashion, on rewatch was going "hang on one of those evil gentlemen demons moves in a oddly familiar wa-HOLY SHIT ITS DOUG JONES". Motion pictures most based monsterman at it once again.
Just watched S2 E17 with a reactor today! And I've been WAITING for him to get his heart ripped out! It's the first time you realize that nobody is safe, including the inner circle. So good!
And I'm new here, but always up for Buffy talk, so anyone else who feels the same... let's connect!
My parents still make fun of me for calling home while out with friends asking them to record Buffy on the VCR for me because I forgot to set it up before I left.
Remember VHS? I taped the final episode and then later made a DVD from it just so I could watch it from time to time... Thanks to your post for reminding me... this might be a good time! 👍
Wow! I would be writhing in envy of you right now, but I gave away my last 2 VCRs about 3 weeks ago along with the remaining 200 VHS tapes I owned. I didn't want them going in a land fill and I found a collector. He was thrilled to get them. I wish I had DVDs of Buffy and Angel. 🙂
Got sick in December and wanted some 90s comfort TV so me, a 90s kid finally watched it. I get it. Watching Spike be a messy bitch going through a break up, and I love it
I think that’s exactly what you should do. Doesn’t matter if you haven’t talked them in a decade, “do you think Xander is gay or is Xander just gay for Dracula?” Out of the blue.
But were they besties because the two closeted kids gravitated toward each other?
Actually, looking at all his relationships I tend to believe Xander is primarily just a submissive, any other aspect is secondary, the man just wants to be dominated by someone pretty.
When my daughter was in Jr High shevhad to dress up as a person she believed was a positive influence in life and she went as Buffy because "she's a girl on TV and she kicks butt!"
I actually loved it at the time! Or, well, on first watch- I was a little young when it first came out so I only started watching it in middle school, around 2005. But I was *so* curious as to what the fuck was happening.
I am doing the same, rewatching. I am this time just finished S2:E3. I love the intro of Spike and Due.
I feel the same no one to discuss with any more, but always a new take away. Thanks for sharing it makes me smile to see the series come up as a talking point.
We always try to imagine if the show would have been possible if teenagers had mobile phones like they do now. Every “we’ve got to find Buffy” would be different.
Season three was the best out of the seven season run. I actually liked Angel’s show better. It never hit the heights that Buffy hit. But from season 2 on it was more consistent than Buffy.
Every series rewatch I skip "The Body" episode. Its well done acting and deserves a standing ovation, but it's done so well that it's too real. So... Yeah, but also sads.
I rewatched that several years after my own mom died and just sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. It's a brilliant episode - all the different reactions. But like you say, too real.
The Buffy game on the original Xbox is actually really good and takes place around where you are in the series. Might want to play that sooner than later.
I still think about this one regularly. It very well captured the gravity of shock and grief in a way that I don't know I've seen since.
It's definitely one where I need to separate the art from the artist as multiple actors from the show attest to his problematic behavior on and off set.
I haven't caught up with Buffy but I have to say that I am upset we get a spin off with angsty Vampire boy and not a spin off for the puppet vampire hunter.
Ive only watched through it once but that one early episode about the cyber demon put Hackers to shame as peak representation of late-90s internet culture.
Cordelia had maybe the best story arc in the history of television, changing from the original spoiled rich girl - but protective - early in Buffy to a mature, redeemed and heroic "higher being". My favorite individual Buffy scene was the prom and her recognition.
I'm not sure if I should watch it because I'm bitter about the guy who recommended Buffy to me because they told me "they aren't into British Humor, they like Brainrot humor" when I recommended Garth Marenghi's Darkplace to them
Every year Xander strays further and further from god soiling a wonderful show and the worst examples are when he’s clearly the voice of the author but saying some shit that would get him jumped today
I can never bring myself to watch later Angel because of it.
I saw it a couple of times on my own, once with my husband, but now, I just switch off (mentally as well as physically).
My first job out of college? Ad sales for the new WB network! We had a big meet n’ greet with stars from the network at a big local mall, they flew in to give autographs, pose for pics, etc. Since I was the new kid, I got the ‘crap job’ of babysitting one of the stars for 3 hrs…James Marsters 😃
Oh! If you love Buffy, here’s some big trivia. Anthony Head, Giles, can really sing! Watch, Repo Man. Very dark musical. And I’ve seen it many times. 😍
Or Juliet Landau’s podcast Re-Vamped where she’s watching and discussing it with two of her friends. It’s just finished I Robot, You Jane. Plus, she’s had actors on with her (Julie Benz, Ken Lerner) and Nerf Herder. It’s pretty fun :)
I’m looking forward to it.
I just finished binging Lost, (I’m finally off the island 😅)
I decided the whole thing was about generating love. I’m going to miss it too.
I got so lost! I didn’t know which way was up for the longest time and we almost jettisoned the whole thing- the jumping back and forth was brutal. But I got a soft spot for the characters and hung in. You really have to suspend reality entirely to enjoy it. The ending made it all worth it!
That reminds me that I never watched the final season. We were streaming it on Netflix at the time and we ended up cancelling Netflix (for unrelated reasons) after finishing season 6.
Every few months I furiously Google to see if there’s been a Blu-Ray release and I’m always shocked that there hasn’t been. I don’t know where my DVDs are but it’s on Hulu, I’ve heard the aspect ratio is a bit jank but I should just watch it there.
Ha…73 and still have a big collection of Buffy books, comics, dolls. Best tv series ever. Still watch it, impatiently waiting to introduce my 4 granddaughters to it!
Buffy was an obsession of mine for awhile, to the point of reading Slayage and all the scholarly articles about characters and themes. I never got into the fanfic though, wasn't into fanfic back then.
Comments
But I finished it.
and i got five words for the people who disagree:
willow says kick his ass
(rhetorical)
Let me tell you the Buffy Angel storyline had me weak. First, that scene with 3EB’s “In the Background” playing at the Bronze.
The ANGST when she came back.
I died
And poor Giles - keeps getting beaten up.
Anya - I can never look at a bunny rabbit the same way again.
Except for bunnies

I keep bursting into THEEEYYYY GOT, THE MUSTARD OOOOUUUUTTTTTT!!!!
And I'm new here, but always up for Buffy talk, so anyone else who feels the same... let's connect!
Possibly the first of the properly great episodes.
Peak Angelus.

Including the UK season 7 release that had the wrong episode on the first half, and then adds it onto the second half.
Buffy I also have the DVD box set of Buffy, that's pre- bad digital remaster. Never giving that up!
Actually, looking at all his relationships I tend to believe Xander is primarily just a submissive, any other aspect is secondary, the man just wants to be dominated by someone pretty.
(or maybe midgets)
I feel the same no one to discuss with any more, but always a new take away. Thanks for sharing it makes me smile to see the series come up as a talking point.
i'm always down to discuss buffy
Buffy uses a hammer and sickle to kill monsters who work you to death;
Lily shoves Ken off the platform and everybody watches him fall and then THUD;
The gate pinning Ken to the ground through the back of his legs;
"Hey Ken, wanna see my impression of Ghandi?"
And absolutely. I love it, but it makes me feel all the feels. So much talent within the whole cast.
You can always message me about it if your friends need a break, pal.
It's definitely one where I need to separate the art from the artist as multiple actors from the show attest to his problematic behavior on and off set.
"I know I'm a monster, but you treat me like a man."

IMO: Tara's death preceded the best season ever! 😔
I need a show to binge, and believe it or not I have never seen Buffy. It will be new to me so I’m not reading the comments ✨
I just finished binging Lost, (I’m finally off the island 😅)
I decided the whole thing was about generating love. I’m going to miss it too.
Plus, Faith! God dayum!
ARE YOU SERIOUS
Passion of the Nerd's Buffy Guide too - video essays - are excellent. They don't come along often, but they're worth the wait.
I have a love hate relationship with it because it's one of the best episodes ever but the gentlemen gave me nightmares 😂
*Buffy incredulously motions to her hips as if to say WTF*
