A lot of reporting on the shock-and-awe campaign seems awfully credulous about the ultimate goal here being to “slash government”. To the extent that’s happening, it is incidental to the aim of consolidating and centralizing power.

It is fascism. Calling it "an aggressive flexing of power" fluffs the Führer. Call this what it is, Baker. It is fascism. #BrokenTimes

Many people do not yet understand, in part because they are not being told, that they are at grave risk of losing freedoms!

You also might not fire all the Inspectors General who were doing this job previously.
Every times I see stuff like this it enrages me.
Trump 2.0 Hearlds an Aggressive Move to a US Dictatorship.
This is unfortunately not uniquely American. How the fuck are so many people treating this like it's normal for the sake of perceived neutrality, fealty or both?
ugh it didn't include what I was quoting
I think this CAPTURES what is currently happening… the “slashing of our Government” which was a DEMOCRACY… into a Dictatorship! DOGE…
That’s what 80-90b/ year right there.
Good grief!
The real name of the program is Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI), not Social Security.
The govt takes $ from us - beside taxes - for the specific purpose of paying it back via SocSec benefits.
The reason it runs massive deficits is because they spend more than you collectively contribute to the cause, so they borrow to make up the difference... then you have debt... Which is *your* debt.
No.
Next idea?
They already took the money. Cutting repayment is a ripoff.
It's also a big retroactive tax. On workers, not bosses.
On the regular budget the largest program is defense.
If companies at scale can't stay afloat (like SpaceX's 30% of operations coming from the gov't piggy bank) — let them fall. Clear the board for the market.
If, indeed, the budget was ever the point. Which...really doesn't seem to be.
If you begin at outlays, you've already conceded the argument.
HANDS OFF Social Security and Medicare. WE paid into that. It’s OUR money. Piss off.
You want to save health care $. Invest in, and provide better access to primary health care.
Then look at expenditure
Another option, of course, is TAXING THE FUCKING RICH!
SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE CANNOT BE FUNDED THROUGH DEFICIT FUNDING.
We borrow for military spending.
Why only talk about “spending” when Republicans reduced revenue generation multiple times?

Bezos will absolutely be able to put food on the table next month if he pays his fair share of taxes. He wouldn’t even have to fire anyone.
and every corp pays 25% taxes, or something not basically zero or minus zero
Why do you hate the disadvantaged so much? Why do you want people to die of lack of basic health care? You are one sick twit.
That does not require a radical restructuring of anything.
The government has been borrowing that money and providing IOU.
Maybe quit borrowing that money.
This has been political talk for decades, and never happens.
Appropriations to SSA from Congress, is ONLY for administration, so why? TELL US!

btw Bloomberg tv just now: trump is the first president to “use his power” to go to the Super Bowl
Xxx pushed into unemployment and loss of benefits
Xxx people will die from hunger due to closure of USAID.
xxx of people will not get life saving medications
Xxx amount of people no longer have access to medical care due to...
