Labour likely to take a total drubbing in today’s election & it’s fully deserved.
The lesson I fear they’ll fail to learn is:
You cannot win on anti-migrant hatred.
The right wing press will never tell their voters you have done enough.
And meanwhile, of course, you lose all the rest of us #r4today

"Don't worry, we're going to fire them all into the sun"
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT"
Will Labour change ... I don't think so.
It hinges on pushing them back to france, which is illegal
They are prepared to do it anyway, despite a lot of our food and other goods coming through the tunnel, which france could close if we did something illegal
Where would Reform set them up? How much would they cost? Woud people being processed have a right to them come here?
The current govt is supposedly looking at something like this anyway
So most of their plan is either unlawful, impractical, or pointless
Farage talks a good game but has never really been successful at anything, other than running a scam political company
a large amount of our trade passes through the tunnel, The French cloasing it would be disastrous.
No one but Reform thinks this will work
No.3 is pointless, no illegal immigrant is resettled anyway, they all claim asylum, some get it some dont, the ones that dont get repatriated, 24K since the new govt
No idea what a new dept will do, given there is one
Look past the headlines at the policies they are implementing, most of them good solid socialist policies
But not voting just means you can't really complain can you?
You had a chance to influence the future, you sat on your hands

If you are happy to see reform get more seats it is probably a good move on your part
Otherwise, uk democracy becomes a national ‘pick your favourite colour’ contest, held every couple of years.
All parties have a duty to explain themselves. The newspapers often don’t bother.
Labour need to have the courage of their convictions, their beliefs and values. Instead of lusting after the support of people who will never vote for them.
Why say that, otherwise.
But Starmer is frit.
They have made some political errors, possibly to delay full media onslaught.
They'll get that when Starmer elects not to do a US deal & sides with EU. The full financial might of the same forces behind Trump will attack.
But check out NHS performance & employment bill.
Labour have already cushioned themselves against some of the blowback by preventing elections in half of the country today

I can see both sides of the debate when it comes to things like the graduate visa or where the salary or skill threshold should be for a work visa. But treating people who will be here anyway worse out of sheer spite is wrong.
Whilst I appreciate we are less than a year into a government they've done next to fuck all for the "ordinary" folk, let the wealthy off the hook and hammered the vulnerable.
You teaching important core values will stand them in good stead their whole lives.

We're heading for darker times.
Labour needs a really good kick up the backside on this issue. Losing actual support in an election is the only metric they’re likely to take notice of.
I’m a life-long Labour voter but I won’t be voting for them today for precisely this reason.
Those candidates do exist … despite central office .
And Starmer will turn to Reeves to ask if she's heard or seen anything... Must have been the wind.
Stop the water companies shitting all over England.
- choking Nana and Gramps as they freeze in the dark.
- letting tax cheats smoke and mirrors with asylum seekers.
etc.
I just can't 🤦🏻♂️

Blue Labour/Labour Together are also the other problem and should be kicked out of the party.
Wow.
#anyonebutAndrea indeed!
Wtf do older people think reform will do for them? Or indeed about anything...... 😔
some Labour policies
👇👇
Neo-natal leave
Pot-holes
Flood defences

Free childcare
Breakfast clubs
Improved Employment rights
NHS Waiting lists reduced
Community Pharmacies funded
£22b for NHS
Public transport investment
Increase minimum wage
Nationalising railways
Nationalising buses
I fear we're heading towards a Reform surge and even more economic pain before anyone wakes up.
Does the US teach us nothing?
But then on second thoughts.... not so sure I care to know what else you have to say after that comment.
I want someone who says the opposite of Reform, not someone who plays the "punch down on minorities" game
The current US administration isn't it, Reform isn't it, the Tories aren't it, and unfortunately Starmer isn't it either.
He has a long track record of making promises to win position then reneging on them all once he has power. That's the opposite of integrity.
Starmer isn't one of them.
Are you able to enter into discourse without resorting to condescending personal slights and eye roll emojis? If not, we're done here.
Yvette Cooper in opposition kept asking for safe and legal routes to apply for asylum, but nothing whilst in government…

(very literally)
I'm taking the risk of hope the Green Party can take a quantum leap at local and mayoral elections.
Mary Page could be West of England Mayor(WECA) if she prevails in a very tight contest today!!
@mayorslayer.bsky.social
The only issue being with both is they lack true representation of the country as a whole in comparison with their membership. They both also lack strong leaders
Labour LC have been pretty good in Swindon but its a RW town. Basing LC votes on the national party is a large part of why the UK is broken.
Farage's personality cult is unlikely to attract anyone else who is not going to vote for him already.
The strange rebirth of Liberal England needs to happen. Radical Liberals need to coup d'etat the Lib Dems and elect a new leader.

The Libdems and Greens will benefit, as will Farage's original fascist party, not the two "racist-lite" ones.

We can (and must) do so much better.
Britan...
I found a visual representation of it.
There has never been a "special relationship". Bizarre concept.
Cash for honors also apparently fine as well.
The UK has spent decades voting for the cheapest option.
I think we like to hope that there is an excuse for doing awful things. Sadly, that means that they will keep happening.
Voting intention of GE2024 Labour voters (Opinium/The Observer, 23-25 Apr):
Lab 58%
Grn 11%
Ref 10%
LD 9%
Con 6%
PC 2%
oth 4%
Loss to pro-EU = 22 pp
Loss to pro-Brexit = 16 pp

Expect the LibDems and Greens to double their council seats.
After the results usual none sense
We’ve reflected and we’ve listened so we’re moving further to the right because that’s really worked out well for us over the last 10 months
It’s local elections - turnout will be low.
The one parliamentary seat is in a seat where the last MP punched a constituent.
Not sure how much of a conclusion can be reached.
Folks must get the point that all media is waiting for a gigantic onslaught on Labour. The likely trigger is no US trade deal.
(5 Eyes + Europe.)
UK is a gateway country into the mainland of Europe.
The issue is the decision.
Who made the decision?
Well, it's interesting. Swisher Faulkner was appointed by Project 25 and Trump MAGA wannabe Liz Truss. A very political and biased appointment.
Is Wes Streeting a transphobe?
I wasn't aware of that.
What shows him to be transphobic?
Declaring trans women aren’t women and then chiding Starmer for not toeing the bigotry line fast enough
Backing the banning trans women from women’s hospital wards
2nd paragraph was handled - Starmer will never challenge legally established processes. (Even if the chair is a transphobe themselves)
3rd Consequence of the legal definition
I am confident Labour will be working to undo the sham ruling, but won't do it in public.
A lot.
It might have been useful to remind people how Musk was the catalyst for Reform’s rise in the polls.
#Runcorn #Helsby #ReformUK
I'm ashamed to be English!
Turns out that potholes are actually the fault of the deep state and people crossing the channel..
The problem is, reality isn`t a factor for the far right.
It's about time the real-time media cut the papers, their dwindling readership, and deadbeat journalists out of the news altogether.
Than it will be to stop Reform later.

Two days after...."We need a serious cabinet meeting".
Three days after..."As the Labour Party we are announcing new policies, One child benefit cap, every benefit claimant will now have a £20 weekly kitchen tax applied, Rwanda policy revitalised"...
Not Labor in Australia. Don't get confused 2 days out from the election.
they're throwing meat to the "Red Wall" but losing everyone else. it makes no sense, but when you have no aim but power, little does
Already other potential divisions with Reeves wanting growth and Cooper wanting to bring down migration numbers.
*Please write to your MPs to oppose these proposed cuts.
1.3 million people are going to lose thousands of pounds a year*
They need to be fought and above all ridiculed.
And sadly, this anti-migrant hatred is growing tenfold too. You can indeed win on it, and Reform will, but Labour just pissed everyone off.
Arms to Netanyahu; reducing benefits to disabled; stalling on EU rapprochement; continued support of non- green energy; weasling out of removing charitable status from private schools. Oh yes increasing privatisation of NHS
There is no moral imperative to continue arming Netanyahu - children are not “Hamas” not in Gaza nor the West Bank.
Indeed, Labour's vote share was only 1.6% higher in 2024 than its monstering in 2019 (33.7% compared to 32.1%).
The 20% plunge in Tory vote share had a LOT more to do with the result.
Starmer is sitting on a deceptively soft majority, and he needs to realise that sharpish.
Sadly we thought Labour were the good guys here, and they are, compared to Reform UK or the Tories... but many of us feel very disappointed that Labour seem to be wasting their huge majority trying to appease the RW. Not what we voted for at all :(
I think they’re trying to *normalise* them
