We make Varenyky twice a year.
Christmas Eve for the in-laws and their Christmas dinner and the real Christmas Eve for the family and theirs. We used to try and make enough to last for both. But the husband and our sons, basically will eat them 3 or 4 times a day until they are all gone.
My dad was from Ukraine. We usually do cheese and potato, but sometimes sweet ones with blueberries. Our recipe came from our aunts who had to guess from watching Baba as she wouldn't tell them her recipe.
Russian has the same situation. And Kazakh language loaned a word for chips from Russian. That's why Kazakh word "чипсылар" has three plural endings from three different languages
