So, honest question, what do we do about fake stuff here? Do we think OP still doesn’t know this is a fake screenshot? Do we think “fake stuff is OK if the vibes feel true?” Does bsky build a BirdWatch clone?

My question then is how to deal with parody and jokes?
@theonion.com is obvious, but should there be a tag to avoid #whoosh?
It's just… the same usual media literacy problem right? The same problem that is already everywhere else.
Then we can have a voting system for it that leads to them getting reviewed if abuse happens.
(And we don't need fakes to prove Elon is a douchebag he's already saying and doing plenty of verifiable stuff to demonstrate that fact lol)
Not whatever this quote post is lmao
best we get is a reply "i was wrong" that has one tenth the reach
It's the first time I've seen this one from Elon but I've seen worse from him, so it doesn't really affect my opinion much.
Also I never trust anything from randoms online.
There's always a source, there's always the first person to bring something onto this platform, bigger penalty for them.
I like giving people the option to self-correct.
I don't care what the "vibes" are. One can't complain about misinformation only if it benefits those they don't like and be okay with it if it benefits them. Even if that misinfo benefit is validating their dislike of someone like Elon.
1. Crowd marks stuff as 'contested'.
2. If a post gets above x percent OR x number of 'contested flags' it gets a mark saying just that.
3. Depending on their resources, a dedicated mod team can decide to mark popular/growing posts or accounts.
So when you see a contested post you press OP's image and see their score, telling you they have accumulated many fake-poster points.
And there's been nothing to suggest Elon isn't an unremarkably mediocre individual powered solely by random hedonistic impulses and a vague obsession with recognition and death.
So, “I agree with YOUR (OP’s) message, but Elon didn’t say that.”
Especially on the political content or "quotes"
Yeah it should be okay as long as the other side uses it

I didn't come here to continue paying attention to the worlds most inconsolable toddler.
I'd love to see a version of the the notes that allows me to specifically mark a correction I like that someone else made on my skeets, allowing me to personally acknowledge that I know better now.
Find out you've made a mistake, make a retraction and it pushes it to everyone who saw the original until they saw the retraction and marked it as seen.
What you’re left with will be bad/misunderstood jokes and individuals who try but aren’t moving the needle for their own purposes.
Elon deserves all the hate and targeted vitriol possible, so I am fine with people putting words into his mouth.
Yes.
Your post is absolutely correct.
Honestly it feels good to express the “please I beg of you seek unity, not revenge” ideas that I rarely have opportunity to express irl
there are HUNDREDS of legitimate reasons to be mad at him and upset at him
but fabricating posts, is just as low behaviour and identical to what alt-right chuds do to vulnerable minorities
you cant beat assholes by using misinformation
Also, thank you for mentioning that this is fake, since I had not seen it and could have fallen for it.
I hope BlueSky brings in a Community Notes feature like Twitter
Even if the vibes feel true.
Because soon the fake stuff makes the vibes fake too.
Are we in a post-parody world where you need to say JK or /S
In the mean time, do your diligence if something seems... too on-point, and call it out if it doesn't hold up.
I *think* it's a bigger task if implementation is done at the atprotocol level, and not just a native feature on the Bluesky app.
For example:
Elon musk goes on unhinged rant at Twitter user.
vs
X owner shares harsh criticisms of his fans.
Both fact, but very different stories.
I am talking about hard cold facts like - earth is not flat. Climate change is real. Joe Biden won the 2020 election.
Spin cannot refute that.
Otherwise its kinda stinky
bsky moderation: https://bsky.app/profile/moderation.bsky.app
pronouns: https://bsky.app/profile/pronouns.adorable.mom
politician donors: https://bsky.app/profile/us-gov-funding.bsky.social
Because although the post is fake, it's absolutely satire-worthy.
That being said, it needs to be labeled as such.
However I don't know if that's the real shooter or not. Coloring in all the photos is odd....Remember text removes 90% of communication.
So your only see 10% of anyone like this....
Either way, the seed of doubt was immediately planted before I clicked to reveal it.
I actually did like the community fact-checking on the other site tho.
For example: if i get a detail about something wrong, whatever. If it's a major point, it needs a community note. If it's intentional misinformation (hard to prove), it needs to be reported and maybe removed.
This needs to change.
And thanks to Hank for this example.
Even just a "hide posts marked as misinformation by this community-noter for X weeks/forever".
I think that would do nicely on blue sky.
Just like how GIT being decentralized and relies on a dynamic communities forming to handle trust; so could blue sky.
When something is THAT on the nose, mine usually goes off.
Also the U.S just voted in a President that said he'd get rid of Birthright Citizenship or even deport mixed families.
So everything's sort of in the air when it comes to rational norms.
Trump as well
It's usually presented as "the quiet part out loud" like they slipped and accidentally said "I am evil" somehow.
But, when its unknown people, you don't know their beliefs, you've seen the same thought by others, don't know their writing pattern, which leaves one vulnerable to this.
We need a community notes-like feature I believe.
One day though. We will be ready for just the truth.
I think we can reduce misinformation but there is a fundamental isssue.
You mentioned a b/s detector. I have a question. Have you seen Hank’s video on the lies Elon believed in a very short timeframe? I’m shocked he can tie his shoes without reddits help
He gives me the impression of someone who uses big words to sound smart, but most of the time he has no idea what he’s talking about. I stand by exactly what I said.
Maybe he has some ideas that his actions today could benefit humanity, but I somewhat doubt it.
So, not suprised!
Elon Musk's cynical & Machiavellian worldview aligns with Trump, everything in life is a zero sum game to these "ruthless" oligarchs. I loathe them both with a passion.
We have to get CREDIBLE information back.
1. It needs to be taken down
2. A notification needs to go to everyone who engaged with the post
3. There needs to be a permanent scar on the account. Something like the account doesn't show up in Discover, or after three strikes you can't post at all.
Not showing up in discover makes sense, even for just a short time. Why would Bluesky willingly promote posts by accounts that they know spread misinformation?
Posting is a privilege, after 3 times willfully lying why should you have it?
However I guess for undue carelessness or repeated behaviour you could do it.
However making sure your retraction is amplified to more people than the mistake, seems easier for social media to do than traditional media.
But also, in cases like this where it is pretty obvious the fake stuff is legitimately what that person thinks? Meh.
I'm sure a laissez-faire attitude towards the truth on social media platforms won't cause any long-term societal problems we might come to regret.
I’m just kinda burned out and can’t feel a huge amount of concern for what I see as the least harmful fake stuff I’ve seen even within the past hour. Ya know?
