Is this a safe space to say I have no time for Fabrizio Romano for a whole host of reasons, one being he comes across as a PR agent for various unsavoury players/clubs more than anything else these days?

I used to follow him for news (of all the ITKs he at least wasn’t full of shit most of the time) but when he became a PR agency the former United player currently at Marseille I unfollowed.
An absolute grifter. Found the way he "broke the news" of Iniesta's retirement before the man himself had the formal chance to do so deeply unsettling.
Exactly why I hate him. The moment a player is doing well for you club, he’s putting out generic “clubs interested / one to watch “ posts. A chancer who gives agents favourable exposure in exchange for “exclusives”
In a sense you have to admire how well he has monetised being a mouthpiece for football players, and the fact it was so innovating in a social media world. In another sense, he's a rape apologising c*nt that can get in the bin.
He didn't come across all that well in the Guardian article about him a couple of years ago, seemed like a real nightmare friend/family member to be around who would ditch anyone and everyone for a hint of a story, and that was before this pivot to PR for certain players.
It became especially clear last summer when he was boosting the profile of players almost no one had heard of and they were all being watched by Chelsea. I don’t really have a lot of respect or time for him.
Yup. ”Clubs would pay for mentions on Romano’s social media accounts. Furthermore, he made it clear that the player’s representatives had planted the Bardghji narrative.”
I also don’t get the need to be the “first to break the news” anymore as a journalistic practice. Who cares honestly, be slow, take your time with your craft. But unfortunately not what twitter rewarded
Stopped paying attention to him a while ago thankfully. Couldn’t be doing with the constant regurgitation of a two line story into 50+ tweets/videos. Ornstein, Whitwell or Mitten are the only ones I pay attention to these days
It is for me. He's a tap-in merchant and very much goes where the clout is. I believe at one point he was genuinely good, but the hype and pressure of it turned him this way
Are you suggesting you won’t get caught up in the magic for the inevitable “Fabrizio Romano understands Fabrizio Romano is in talks over a move to Bluesky👀🔜” saga?
Had him blocked on the other place from ages ago. My friends I'm sure were sick of me replying to them posting any link from him with a variation of what you've said there. Horrendous twat and an exemplar of everything wrong with modern football.
Always found him incredibly gimmicky and childish(?) In the sense that I can only see him being enjoyed by the sort of person who finds a YouTube thumbnail appealing. Stands to reason he would defend and promote the footballer pfp twitter faves
Summer 2023, seemed to be on a Boehly retainer.
Was constantly pumping out pro CFC material.
And seemed unusually “ briefed “ about their transfer plans.
During the transfer window - he does seem to break a fair few moves. But agree the reason he gets these stories is by keeping the agents happy throughout the year by pushing their agenda's
Think a lot of the time he’s not crediting the actual journalists who put the work in because they’re less well known. Can’t get away with it when it’s folks like Ornstein, though.
He usually just repeats exclusives from people like ornstein as well, never seems to have the news first, just jumps on the bandwagon and takes some credit
I can’t believe he’s even worse than his counterpart in American sports. Feels like the main problem is that he’s “independent” and doesn’t have an entity to hold him accountable.
I’m curious, genuinely. What big transfer has he ever broken? Because it seems to me he just jumps on everyone else’s news and gives it his ‘here we go’ layer of gloss.
He seems to me to have authenticity because he’s simply more active than everybody else.
100%. He’s gone from transfer speculation man to rich football owner PR man. Zero point following him now, anything remotely interesting will be retweeted anyway
Wasn't keen anyway, but once the PR for the rapist/abuser Greenwood I unfollowed and blocked. Have no time for anyone who is willing to choose money over any sort of morals.

Not seen a single bit of transfer speculation in my two weeks on Bluesky.
Long may it last!
7 year sell-out deal agreed + fraud option.

He's shite
He plays the game and done well for himself.
Football 'journalism' is all just PR in the end though isn't it?
But I'm also not not saying that.
Was constantly pumping out pro CFC material.
And seemed unusually “ briefed “ about their transfer plans.
(Yes, Goals in that league belong in inverted commas)

Also he is 100% a Greenwood shill so fuck him.
