The recognizable territory ("The Province of New York") is the same age. The territory in 1664 looked closer to the modern state than the city did. NYC didn't start to expand out of Manhattan until 1874, and wasn't consolidated into its recognizable boroughs until 1898.
City and the colony were both renamed in 1664. Modern NYC didn't exist until 1898. Name "Brooklyn" -- largest borough -- is from 1663, predating "NY." Saying any were "born" when they changed their name is like saying my Mom wasn't born until she married my Dad (making her 1 year younger than me...)
Neither are Chicago... which depending on who you talk to is could be deep dish (thicker with sauce on top) or tavern style (thin crust crosscut in squares)
I was going to mention this earlier but I didn't have time to review all 1k responses to your original post to check if it had already been brought to your attention.
Not true, as everybody knows California is the birthplace of pizza. The first margarita pizza was made in LA (inspired by the cocktail). Italians later copied it.
A way for american folk to experience or witness (if the urge to dilute and demand it's white-ified, silenced, and catered to them specifically doesn't win) some kind of community for at least 5 short, memorable seconds.
Oh that make sense. They don’t look like quality pizzas any of them. Therefore I was surprised by seeing Italy. You know, real Italy. The country famous for pizza 🇮🇹
I know, right? Whole post reeks of disinformation. You want good pizza, go where they were invented. Each country has their own variants, none as good as the Italian ones. Specially not the ones with pineapple.
It only looks like bot baloney if you don't immediately recognise that the account is a legitimate shitposter, which takes 0.2 seconds of additional scrutiny.
I live in Canada and growing up all the pizza places were Greek. They made really good pizza. Actual slices of meat, lots of cheese. Every bite had all the toppings you asked for. Now all the pizza places are Indian. No where near as good. Mostly bread with few toppings and very little cheese.
I haven’t had pizza in Pisa but I have been there and when you are drunk Pisa is pronounced Pizza.
But I have had pizza in Milan. And can’t compare them to North American pizzas. It was much lighter, meant to be eaten as a meal. North American pizzas are heavier and meant to be eaten at a party.
lolz!
Someone slapped the word "Italy" over that image. Believe what you will!
No pizza I ever saw in Italy (or Europe, for that matter) ever had that amount of cheese. It's not normal for them.
Dude, @patrickas.bsky.social told you he's an Italian Pizza Chef. That's expertise right there. Who are you, just some rando on the internet who happens to enjoy pizza? We're talking to an *Italian Pizza Chef*. I think he knows a thing or two about Italian Pizza. After all, it's in his job title.
since you're asking the question Patrick, ... yes - people lie on the internet all the time .. pretty much 3/4 of the content on Social media sites Meta and X is made-up bullshit.
And probably close to 100% of Trumps Bullshit-Social !!

.. Not saying you are though !!
You've gone through all this effort to make the world's most provocative post and people are just genuinely posting their favorite pizzas in the comments. Bluesky really is built different
Ummm... I'm not even American and I know that Detroit is a city, not a state. I do hope you're not from the USA, but, if you are, you might want to delete this...
It's Detroit with a fucking Bullitt. Italy pizza is wet crust, Chicago pizza is soup, new york pizza is overrated as hell, never considered a slice at rays remotely acceptable. It's Detroit, it's buddies.
Hoowhat? I went to pittsburgh like 3 times in my life and got the f out as quick as possible. Did not stay for the pizza. Why they got raw cheese on it?
Wait, why? No. That sounds like people being mean to one another. Like here's a fully cooked crust and sauce with unmelted cheese and non crispy pepperroni. That's bullying shit.
Ya. It's ass. Bardough was pretty good but honestly Anthony's coal fired in fort Lauderdale is better and people don't brag about fort Lauderdale pizza. Nycs claim to pizza dominance is a house of lies.
To be clear, while this image shows pizza from Detroit, it's not Detroit-style pizza.
While Little Caesars does sell a deep-dish pizza, it's way too doughy. Stick to the standard round ones shown here if you're looking for acceptable cheap pizza.
This is debatable - I think you can say that Italy will call certain cured meats "pepperoni" and has included them to appease Americans and Brits. But "salami" comes in about 14 different iterations, so you can really pretend you are eating whatever you want.
Italian pizza is overrated. Yeah I said it. Like it’s good and it’s simple and it’s traditional but sometimes when I eat a pizza it’s not what I fucking want. Sometimes I want two pounds of meat and enough cheese to plug my colon!
What a stupid fucking comment. Really. I say classic Italian pizza like one would find in Italy and like I have eaten in Italy is good but overrated and your response is that I must eat shit Papa John’s Pizza. Grow up.
This made me chuckle right out loud and my daughter said “what.” I’m not explaining it, though. Gonna let her believe I have a rich secret online life.
Second, Pizza is an Italian creation, therefore they decide what pizza is, which means they'll always have the best pizza, because theirs is literally the definition of pizza.
Third, the picture you put for the Italian one doesn't look like Italian pizza/
Secondly... THAT pizza portrayed as Italian is NOT an Italian pizza. Not from Italy in any way, shape or form. Plus pepperoni isn't a pizza Italians tend to eat. That's an American thing.
Without a doubt... In my case it was just pizza on my mind... THIS is an Italian pizza. It's all about cultural appropriation and culture identity. Marketing hoo-hah. Didn't notice and it's true!
From Francesco Martucci (I Masanielli) in Caserta (Campagna), Italy
Pepperoni= peppers. Which they do eat. American “pepperoni” in Italy is called salami piccante and it’s easily one of the most popular toppings. They call it a “diavola” instead of a “pepperoni pizza.”
But that isn't Salame Calabrese, which is what you're alluding to. Pepperoni is a manufactured American salame that doesn't exist in Italy and doesn't resemble any Italian salame.
And yes, Pepperoni in Italian.
But that pizza base there is sacrilege and I agree, no pineapple on pizza either.
The two different salamis you could find in a Diavola (in Italy)
Spianata or/and Salame Calabrese (neither resemble American Pepperoni which is a thing in itself)
Indeed, Italian cuisine is quite extraordinary and very different from north to south, plus the two islands (Sicily and Sardinia). Every region has its curiosities and their way of enjoying food. For example the pizza in the south isn't at all the same as the pizza in the north (+ Rome).
Italy isn't a city. She is a country, invented the meal and has more variation in pizza than the USA. Ive had pizza in both. The best pizza I ever tasted was when in Venice. I was a teen with a friend and we were struggling to open a bottle of wine.
Down from a top floor window came a piece of string. On it was atrached a bottle opener. Which we used and was raised back. The lady operating the string was very elderly and we all thanked her as best we could in our abysmal attempt at Italian.
Then came a cardboard box, inside were four pizza squares. We took a slice each and toasted the lady who raised a glass to us from the window. As she left she sang us a song. Top that Chicago. I'm 54 now and I will never forget that lady.
Italy has everything you could want in a city: fine dining, art & history museums, a whole other country inside of it, mountain ranges, islands, and of course pizza that doesn’t measure up to NY or for that matter New Haven
Kebab shop near me used to do a 'London Pizza' that was just a pizza with chips on it (fries for the Americans). Nothing to do with London. Never seen it before or since. Genuinely innovative!
California. Tony and Albas. Unmatched! Perfect crisp crust made there.
Their veggie had large pieces of artichokes, large olives broken, not chopped.Tomato wedges.
The high temp made for slight toasted edges on veggies EVEN the tomato. Not soggy at all. Nothing ever could compare.
Pizza: Dominoes
Garlic bread: Papa Johns
Cannolis: Local restaurant I forgot the name of
Pasta: The Old Spaghetti Factory or me and the bros on a random Saturday.
I want to make this perfectly clear before I give my answer: there is no such thing as bad pizza! Sure, some pizza is less than good, but it's still preferable as a food item to, say, a salad or meatloaf. That being said, tavern style pizza from the Chicago area is my preference now and forever
As an American, I'd say Chicago is most satisfying to an American palette while Californian is there for comparative novelty. Nothing wrong with the other two either, of course.
you think there are no cities in Italy? I think people forget that Super Mario started out in a sewer, sewers to be found in cities. While there may be scant evidence of there being a city in Italy, I believe in my heart we will learn whether that’s the case some day.

Also don’t knock Hawaiian before you’ve tried it.
so there's this thing called jokes...
Or
The post is so dumb, and lacking any humor, that it’s easily misconstrued as bot baloney.🤷♂️
... hmmm...
never heard of them - I'm intrigued - tell me more !!
Hawaiian Pizza was invented in Canada by a Greek restaurateur
Americans ruined it by dumping soggy chunks of pineapple on it from a can and then wonder why no one likes it
Yet anchovies and strawberry Nutella get a pass?
But I have had pizza in Milan. And can’t compare them to North American pizzas. It was much lighter, meant to be eaten as a meal. North American pizzas are heavier and meant to be eaten at a party.
... that's in Italy BTW
And Italy is a COUNTRY,
I'll have to go with New York.
Do Better.

Fuck Mussolini and all his legacy, by the way.

I do love Pittsburgh though! Great steaks and sandwiches.
Not a great photo representing it though
U just hurt me mamma mia 🤌🏻

Ham, shredded pork, pickle, mustard, white cheese?
