Tumblr had the exact same reconning. People didn't know. Then they knew. He stopped being widely shared and fandoms around his world have been reconciling what they want to do on a personal and community level. Tumblr hasn't ignored this and he had a lot of practice manipulating opinions.
I don't know anything specific. But in general. Don't look for heroes or role models from artists. Feels like a good way to get semi regularly devastated.
It was so much worse than I anticipated. I'm glad I pirated Sandman. It was one of the first comics i ever read. I'd been planning to buy it someday but I doubt I'll be able to read it again

Yes! I only unfollowed him b/c he was posting too much - he did this thing of replying to everyone who @-ed him, then retweeting them as well so that everyone saw the conversation. Creepy as well as egotistical, in retrospect, but at the time I just unfollowed because it was annoying.
There are quite a lot of mid-tier sff writers there, which is kind of an explanation. But I tend to be a little suspicious of people close to sff fandom who become big stars anyway. It was very abusive for years, may still be.
I remember in the early 2000s both him and Trent Reznor were at the forefront of using very specific websites to communicate to people and it built them a lot of cred among younger folks.
So cool, so edgy. I need to read it again purely to critically assess my younger self's facility for critical assessment, then something by Grant Morrison as a palate cleanser
