I participated in a charity plane pull here in Southern California. The most jacked (and probably roided out dudes) were the Corrections officers from the L.A. men's central jail.
Hey, some of the records set during the Barbary Wars and the Boxer Rebellion are falling to mediocre-seeming warfighters in in suspicious circumstances, the Navy is just trying respect the historical statistical record.
I work as a budget analyst for a police department and even I had to have my line tattoo photographed as part of my background check before they’d hire me to sit at a computer all day and click spreadsheets
I spend part of my time for work on a military base, they should really check them out for white supremacist tattoos. I see a lot of guys with them and it’s disturbing.
its been common practice (or was back in the 2010s when I was in the Navy) to test regular sailors for steroids (and weed, fake weed, opiates, etc etc). but yeah as others are saying, the real test they need to do is coke
This reminds me of the early 90s when they were “randomly” drug screening. My dad was tasked with dropping off his squadrons samples. All of them. And, he wanted me to go with him. 🤢
Yep. Not everyone taking anabolic steroids is an authoritarian, but authoritarians seem to naturally gravitate toward anabolic steroids.
Same pattern goes for amphetamines, for which cops should also get regular tests.
Let's be honest, I don't think most cops suddenly discovered gym memberships. And the way a lot of their eyes look, I've only seen that on juicers and addicts.
I have joked that all the police oversight boards, body cameras, etc. would be less effective at weeding out bad cops than 1) rigorous steroid testing and 2) making all patrol cars Volkswagon Beetles
3) you don't get a gun until you've already done 3 years on the force (might force cops to learn conflict management tools other than "point a gun & yell")
you don’t actually have to give the cops guns at all
like yeah England still has violent crime but it’s much harder to end up in an “officer-involved shooting” when the cops are bringing batons to the knife fight
It’s visible in their pictures. My city hall has annual pictures of the police force from the early 80s up to now — and I can even see it in a fairly small, liberal town. They were skinny and doughy into the 2000s, then they started getting big and veiny and the bad connotation of swole.
The cops in my town used to (maybe still do) workout at the strip mall gym across from my high school, wouldn’t be surprised if some *stuff* was floating around
Oh, I’d be certain.
Once you realize that strip mall gyms are one of the best retail money laundries to exist, and that pulling in all of their feeder dirty money sources makes both the front and the laundry run better?
And cops figure out which gym does what pretty fast.
If we actually wanted long overdue accountability in law enforcement, the first thing would be a national database where LEO records follow them everywhere. Communities should know up front if hires are bad civil suit risks. Moral argument doesn't work, so let's try straight up capitalism.
While we're at it, I'd love to see a Uniform Code of Law Enforcement Justice, along the same lines as UMCJ. Both the database and UCLEJ required if you want federal money for your cops.
There is so much that an efficient administrative state can do, but not if they’re “lean” and starved.
(I blame Bill Clinton and the third way for most of this damage.)
Considering communities that hire law enforcement are on the hook for any civil settlements, going for a straight up capitalistic argument that employers should know the history of potential staff. Attach $$$ lost to bad apples to try to make a change.
Yes. Anecdotally once played a team of cops in a rec basketball league, and attitudinally and physically our supposition was that steroids were behind it. And my teammates were not really left-leaning.
Considering they keep getting busted for child sex rings, drugs and gun smuggling, and various other serious crimes, they need to chill TF out. Decades of US lawlessness has gone to their heads
I felt really stupid when I realized the reason so many cops are faking "fentanyl overdose from brief exposure" is to cover their actual fentanyl habits

(In that order.)
Why are dads?
Same pattern goes for amphetamines, for which cops should also get regular tests.
That makes for dumb decisions.

Wishful thinking I know.
