a major part of why we are here is that people do not have the courage of their convictions and are unwilling to take responsibility for things they say and do

To be fair, he's focused on city housing markets. It appears someone recalled or found him sharing his perspective and motivation in the voting booth then snitch tagged him.
Piling on the person who in no way sought the attention is fucked up. Even though he's a dirty birds fan. It's fucked up.
The solution to all this might be that all the people who warned this would happen has to coddle the people who refused to take those warnings seriously and I’m not doing that so I’m afraid we are at an impasse
Pretty sure nobody on earth was like it’s great that my kids don’t get to go to school and have to stare into a screen on the off chance they might learn something… also did he want people to let their dogs pee and poo inside? Bonus points for wanting to deny people scared of dying a stiff drink 👏
Oh yeah. Clearly he wanted competence. Pete Hegseth, Kennedy, Linda McMahon. So highly esteemed and respected in their fields! “Audits“ by hackers instead of accountants. We see you and your rationalization makes no sense. Just say the quiet part out loud! Its not like there are consequences.
more than I wish these people would own up to being duped, I wish they'd actually have the self-awareness to look deep inside and THINK about how and WHY they were fooled so easily, and commit to changing THAT. "Why am I so gullible? What steps can be taken to improve that?"
This is the type of selfish asshat so mad they couldnt go out at a restaurant during a fucking pandemic... all those selfish people got radicalized by extraordimary measures to protect the population...
And then they decided to support Fascism... they're in for a fucking wild ride.
A society whose citizens have been indoctrinated from birth to follow blindly the dictates of an irrationally needy all-powerful invisible magic man in the sky — has been prepared from Day 1 to always do nothing and defer responsibility to someone higher up. Politics is religion in the U.S.A.
I watched a documentary on southern Christian summer camps. It was allowed to be filmed and it was frightening. The language used was Christian Army and war. Fighting and dying for Christ. Good and evil. This has been going on forever. They've been preparing for this while we have been asleep.
It's a pretty explicit tenet of the modern right that they should never be held accountable for the words they say and things they do. We're witnessing a massive, violent temper tantrum provoked by attempts to make people take responsibility for their actions
Accountability goes against White American culture of which the Right sees itself as the foremost protector of. So much of American history is outright theft that any program of accountability collapses under the weight. So they ignore it and move on to the next shiny thing.
The obsession with erasing history really gives it away: How dare you mention that slavery and genocide ever happened or suggest that they might have been bad
Bingo. It's a fear of looking in the mirror because they're afraid they will not like what they see. So there's a great projection of strength to mask profound insecurity. Hence the rage. Culturally it's extremely juvenile.
Thinking about that writer who visited West Germany in the 50s and was like “the most unnerving thing is realizing that they aren’t lying, so many of these people genuinely think they never supported the Nazis”
Oh we did, it’s a big part of the reason why older millenials voted left and keep getting more progressive with age. It’s true, we don’t talk much about sending our friends’ little brothers and sisters to pointless and unjust war. We fell hook, line and sinker for WMD bullshit.
Many of us had childhoods in the 90s where we had a govt that managed, despite squabbles, to balance the books of the country. Then 9/11 happened... and life got angry and loud, and all the things we were raised to cherish - our values of empathy, diversity, and education - are now a mockery.
I’m Gen X and while 9/11 changed so many things, I noticed the anger on an everyday level with the rise of right wing talk radio. The Republican Revelation in 1994 and the idea that compromise is a losing strategy cemented has also done tremendous damage.
We made so many mistakes out of anger from that time. The neocons that are now anti-trump. Somehow I think they know it too. They probably gaslit themselves and me into thinking you can simply depose a dictator and democracy will magically blossom. Worse things can indeed replace bad things.
Changes made by Reagan in the 80s started having full effect in the 90s and beyond, exacerbated by continuous republican insistence on tax breaks for the rich and less public and social services. Now they want $4.5 trillion in tax breaks for the top 1% and destruction of all social services.
My Dad was stationed in Bavaria in 51/52 and traveled around whenever he had the chance. Never met a single Nazi. I lived there for four years in the 90s. Never met any…though I did meet a few people who were thankful for the Autobahn. 🙄
My dad was a medic in the liberation of Dachau. The crematoriums couldn’t keep up, and bodies were piled high. The air reeked of rotting human flesh. And yet, people in the town decried any knowledge of what happened at the camp. So, US soldiers dragged a wagon full of bodies through the city.
Imagine telling yourself your interests lie in the purity of issues like “housing” but refusing to acknowledge the fact that your political decisions directly affect those policies.
Like, we all know what you did, man. Just admit it.
I wouldn’t be so polite to say he’s lacking the “courage of his convictions” but the self absorbed entitled “individual” who believes they live in a vacuum or on an island - absolute deluded thinking
“Then the F off I don’t want to talk about what I endorsed but I’ll talk about affordable housing”
“Most of all I want competence.” And so he voted for the most incompetent president in history? And now he’s mad when people point this out to him? Something something made your bed something something lie in it.
Women their whole lives learn to make threat assessments of every man they encounter. And men defending rapists are the same as rapists in our book. Bc we see that the guy defending it has considered or has done same.
Actually MAGA is just a bunch of racists, sexists, homophobic, xenophobic, Christian theocrats and white supremicists. They are an outgroup of the Confederacy, the KKK and the John Birch Society.
I am annoyed by the “I voted against Trump once or twice but now I’m choosing him which is why what I am saying is somehow more valid than anyone else’s opinion” thing I see lately
I am also finding that many people, maddeningly, do not even HAVE “convictions” to speak of, they have sets of emotional reactions that they act on one at a time & try to create a coherent narrative of “who they are” & “what they believe in” in retrospect (it is never coherent)
I used to think there were clowns to the left of me and jokers to the right but it turns out most folks are just reactionaries with different triggers.
This is most people and we have an entire society built on people being proudly low information, loud and wrong and being rewarded for it. Those of us who at least TRY to do the reading probably need to bring that same level of mediocre white guy confidence to our discussions.
The funny thing is people always assume that I have 100% conviction when I am actually just trying ideas out & seeing what actually works & aligns w/the logic of my values, but they would never do that b/c of their fear of having to “backtrack” so they are DEEPLY confused by my process lol
Learning is hard. Its messy. Many mistakes are made.
It’s easier to have a 2000 year old book that other people can interpret to tell one how to live their life.
The fact that it always leads to genocide, century after century, shall not be questioned. Those that do are obviously “of Satan”.
I engage a lot online with right wingers/ troll types and they are always demanding you provide a source. When you do, or show any expertise, they invariably move the goalposts or revert to insults. I don’t do it to change THEIR minds but to draw the reaction that shows the bs to everyone else.
There’s a lot of research on misinformation out there about how engaging with it with facts is really important for that very reason! Lots of people who don’t know and haven’t decided what they think are watching.
Arrogant about their ignorance is a byproduct of their leader's lack of knowledge. We have folks saying the Fed workers needed to be fired because they don't do their jobs or their job wasn't needed. Have 0 proof of either but just say it and it's now real. Anti intellectualism is who we've become.
But don’t worry, just open your arms and welcome them back when the memory of that lack of courage is nbd. We don’t need to discuss the river gambling of the future of the country bc you were upset.
Some Pentecostals would jump into snakepits as a sign of their faith. Fine. Your faith, your ass. These churches chose to throw all of us into the pit. For THEIR faith. Self absorbed, arrogant, preachy. Then bitch about the public not being deferential enough for their taste. Spare me, dudebro.
The failure of the news media to hold Trump accountable for anything, 24/7 propaganda, and the failure of our courts and prosecutors, was the problem.
This guys reasons for switching seem to be a list of MAGA talking points.
He fails to remember that those were concessions added to appease right wingers, when in reality if we had followed liberal policies the pandemic would have been better dealt with and people would have had those things he complains about.
Keeping liquor stores open is actually a public health issue. It's counterintuitive, which is why I get a lot of peoples' initial reaction of befuddlement to it, but there was actually a good reason that was easy to find out.
If you suddenly shut off the flow of booze, then everyone with a physical dependency on alcohol will show up at hospitals with DTs all at once, adding even *more* load to an already-overwhelmed system.
Long-term, of course, you want to help those people stop or control their excessive drinking, but in the immediate crisis of early COVID, that had to take a back seat to more pressing matters.
Mr Bobby sounds like a very confused individual who likes staying confused. I don't know the person, but at 1st glance it not just voting they take as a bullshit exercise and quite possibly go through life in every area the same.
Most of all, he wants competence? And he voted for THIS guy?
Even if he didn't want Harris as president -- if he wanted competence, he would have voted for Walz. The guy who can fix old trucks when he's not fixing his state.
They want your kids.
Church isn’t enough. Kids aren’t stupid. Hearing lies once a week is only so effective.
But if they can get into the schools, propaganda and lies can be repeated daily to the most vulnerable.
Might add another reason is the number of people who thought that “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough” really thought politics isn’t the definition of that saying.
It is, and demanding one’s particular, single issue is the ONLY one they’ll predicate their decision on is how we fail.
Voting against something does NOT 🤬🤬🤬 absolve someone of actually voting FOR something or refusing to vote at all--which makes them responsible REGARDLESS of the outcome, good or bad. At least that's a coin toss.
Saying (not you) you want competence and then voting for Trump or not at all is just being a petulant self-involved idiot. There's no curing that except by suffering the pain of their own infliction. And dooming the rest of us to the same pain.
Funny he’s become radicalized because of closed parks that saved lives and religious intolerance. If Jesus showed up today he would close most churches and return the funds to the government to take care of the needy.
I care about public safety. That's why I voted for the guy who tried to violently overthrow the government and who immediately pardoned the J6 rioters, including the ones who were also wanted for other crimes, including child sexual abuse.
the liquor store thing has been explained multiple times. (addicts going into withdrawal en masse during would have put additional stress on hospitals.) guess he missed that.
Weirdly, I understand this sort of reasoning. My wife and I once entertained voting for Joe Morrissey for mayor of Richmond; he has convictions both progressive and criminal and started a relationship with his 17yo intern, to keep a pro business "moderate" from winning. We came around to vote for...
We’ve allowed the “all politicians are corrupt crooks” mantra to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. No moral person wants to go into a corrupt job, so only corrupt con artists are attracted. We need moral people to step up to public life.
Levar Stoney, a vote we also came to regret. Bobby has poor info on competence though. He may be claiming the same spurious thing that the former president of the Woodland Hts Neighborhood Association here in Richmond claims, that Joe Biden was incompetent
Joe Morrissey and Alan Grayson are up there with being the closest things there are today to a progressive Trump. Maybe there's Marion Barry if you go way back?
I think most trump voters vote against their own self interest bc they don't understand the basics or our gov function, misunderstand their place in our socio economic structure, or feel unrepresented. Things need to be made personal to change minds. FAFO will be extra shocking for them.
From 2017-2021 Trump proved his incompetence so thoroughly that even a marmoset could see it. That Fijan dude should stop posting --- he's just embarrassing himself.
Bobby isn’t a bad guy, but he did fuck up massively. I wish him the best and I am certain he now regrets his decision if for no other reason because it has materially harmed his development business since he is entirely in multi family. And to be honest, democrats have some work to do on housing.
Good thing that political stuff like massive unemployment, tarriffs on Canadian lumber, and huge losses in government spending in communities are a completely separate issue from, and likely will have no effect on, housing.
"Intolerance of religious faith and practice" goes to show how they're capable of projecting anything bad onto Joe Biden and Kamala Harris just as much as they're capable of projecting anything good onto Donald Trump.
It's infuriating! I told my mother that real world issues that are impacting me and my family are not "politics". It's my life, and I can't just not discuss it to make you feel comfortable. She's vaugebooking about how discussions are better than arguments. Instead of discussing it with me 🙄
"This isn't the right place to be talking about politics."
That was the response I got from some in the FB group for people with a rare medical condition when I posted asking if any else is concerned about their child's medical care and exposure to discrimination right now.
I also think it’s far past time for us to realize that the government isn’t very good at fixing things that benefit the majority of Americans. I’m a fan of acting locally, ask myself what can “I” do to improve this issue?
I don't believe for a second that he actually voted against Trump, ever. Just like all the idiots cosplaying as former liberals who saw the light after (insert event) in the reddit subs, they are lying to own the libs.
A major part of why we're here is that Over 70 million Nazis in Amerikkka voted for this.
The amount of homeless, destitute and impoverished Americans about to hit the streets is going to be Sad and a rude awakening for MAGAs voting against their own interests in the name of Anti-Black racism.
we really couldn't have ALL the alcoholics showing up to all the ERs in DTs, so at that point keeping the liquor stores open was for good reason as hospitals were already overwhelmed.
What a contradiction. Unwilling to vote for a con artist twice, but when it's between said con & and intelligent bi ethnic woman, a bridge too far. Say you're a racist with saying you're a racist. Way to go.
He said he voted Trump for his competence. He deserves to wear that for the rest of our lives, which unfortunately will be shorter than otherwise in the aggregate, simply by virtue of the defunding of major health institutions, which is the competence he voted for.
"How'd you know he'd be incompetent" and it's like you don't need to look at a single thing he did during his presidency and everything he did after the 11/2020 election. Just an unhinged crazy man who led an assault on our nation's capital based on obvious lies. You think he'd be more competent?!?
there *is* a crisis of progressive local governance in blue states, albeit unrelated to his bulleted complaints ("intolerance to religion," fuck off man), but nothing about it will be improved by voting for Donald fucking Trump, which this boy knows.
That was the most laughable part of his statement. When has Trump ever shown competence at anything other than enriching himself and getting away with crimes?
I was with him *and agree* on 2016 and 2020. I don’t know how he arrived at voting FOR DJT in ‘24 though. Other than the fact that COVID broke a lot of people’s brains.
Democratic incompetence is wide ranging. But allowing the people who put together the pandemic policies that killed a million people to pretend like we all did things “the liberal’s way” is maybe the most stunning aspect of it.
The problem is that WE the ppl are the opposition party or the Democrats and we acquiesce to their talking points. We do it ant everything. Both sides are bad, we are in too much debt, the schools are bad etc. We never say NO. Schools aren't bad. They teach our children stop giving in..
Was that incoherent policy are MAGA red states like MO that rejected?
While the MO DHSS parroted CDC guidance, the MO AG was simultaneously suing every public school district that had the audacity to follow it while Governor HeeHaw adopted a local control policy, until he didn’t care for it.
You are right! Federalism is great when it stops the other guys from doing stuff, awful when it stops you from doing stuff. We leave a lot of stuff up to the states.
I didn't know the President was in charge of dog parks. Learn something new every day.
And if he's so worried about the "degradtion of transit and safety" he's gonna be real pissed about the number of planes dropping out of the sky in just the last two weeks. Right?
I know it's cruel but I have stopped caring for some time now what happens to these ignorant people.
How many times do we have to say
DON'T TOUCH THE STOVE
Guy went in the wrong direction lmao… hated government lockdowns, but forgets it was cause of trump. More ego than brains. People make mistakes all the time, I’d have more respect if they just owned it. All they would have to say is, I messed up. Just do better this time. Kind of have too.
The OP published his reasons for voting for Trump and MAGA, but then refused to defend them. Probably just as well, because his reasons are difficult to defend. 🤷🏻♂️
If I recall, only about half the population voted, I’m being generous, the felon only got approx 49% of the vote = about 1/3 of US population support the felon, hardly a majority. Please check my numbers.
"Don't talk to me about the political choice I made that led to all this. Instead let's talk about this totally political thing I do for a living except now I can't because of the reprobate political choice I made!" He's a fucking child.
In a few months, there will be enough widespread protests against Trump for him to call out the military and declare a 'national emergency'. This is one aim of Team Trump's Project 2025. Institute martial law so ( they) Trump can have free reign.
"why didn't we create more opportunities for children to get up close to each other and get their mucous in each other's eyes when we let adults stand around scrolling on their phones while their dogs run around a dirt patch?"
He clearly has no ability to think critical. How are schools being closed but liquor stores being open remotely the same thing? Idk who is spending 8 hours a day with snotty germ infested humans in a liquor store, you know like kids in school. And GoP are the ones who are destroying education
"here is a list of lies that I use to justify voting Trump plus my personal statement against the Democratic party based entirely on additional lies not specifically spelled out here"
Progressives are “feckless and scolding “.
Trump threw the AP out of the White House press briefing room because they refused to use his made up name for a body of water.
But sure.
I know that Bobby cares about housing, so I’m sure that he will look at this story and have a moment of self reflection about his own culpability here, right?
For whatever it’s worth, I think this pile-on is totally unproductive and is not serving Democrats well at all. Trump won the popular vote, we cannot afford to be this unwelcoming to some of his most persuadable 2024 voters.
Because he voted for Clinton in 2016 and Biden in 2020. Also I know him personally and know he’s persuadable. But even if you didn’t know that, it should just be basic political strategy to not antagonize Trump voters coming into a very progressive space like Bluesky and engaging in a polite way.
Ok, sure. But how did he reason himself into voting for Trump for the reasons he cited? That decision has no actual basis in fact to back it up, either from this first term or the current one. Why should we consider him persuadable given the thought process, or lack thereof he has shown?
Like this isn’t someone on the brink of poverty trying to survive and disenfranchised from political life. This is a sophisticated educated actor with all possible information available at his fingertips. So any mitigating factors are really not present here.
I don’t have the energy to argue with the Bluesky pile-on this afternoon. I’ll just reiterate that I think it’s a bad strategy to hound people who might be persuaded by my anti-Trump message off of the one site where they can hear it. Because I’m not reposting this on X.
I am not surprised that people here are doing what they are, but I just want to make it clear that I think it’s counterproductive to chase people who might be persuaded by my anti-Trump message off of the site where I’m sharing it. Because I’m not going to repost it on X.
That's fair. I would agree that someone like jamelle bouie should probably be more careful about his posts and not engage in this kind of unproductive grandstanding.
On the other hand, sophisticated people who clearly should have known better should be forced to reckon with the very real consequences of what they have done before they’re given the benefit of the doubt in being able to again fully participate in liberal society among reasonable citizens.
We’re not talking about some low-information voter here. This is a person, of which there are many in professional, urban society, who simply should have known better. They don’t get a forgive and forget this time.
Counterpoint: those people are not worth engaging with unless they have the decency to offer a mea culpa first. Forgiveness is possible, but the penitent needs to acknowledge he needs it first.
A guy who voted for Trump because he wanted "competence in government" isn't persuadable. He's a moron who chooses to set govt on fire because he's having a bad day.
That guy has been pushing unsafe win dowless hou sing bc he’s a greedy psychopath deve loper imo who also pretends sometimes to be an arc hitect — which is a felony offense in some states.
It only proving that they believe everything and let people think for themselves and don't fact check. Who is always talking about ,, Practice your religion in private if it's not Christianity "? Wich states have the lowest education? All the argument actually point against conservatives.
He's just another liar who actually voted for Trump every opportunity he had. His "you liberals made me do it" schtick is just not credible. Ignorant bigot.
I've seen countless posts saying similar -- "I have always voted Dem, but now I'm changing to Trump b/c ______ (insert any B.S.)"
It is truly pathetic that way these indifferent people want to act like being asked to use logical reasoning and consider nuance before voting to give someone crazy levels of power is an afront to them somehow..
"Use my brain?? ICK! hard pass"
These people who can’t tell the difference between being an overconfident bully and being actually competent at things reveal a lot about their own competence.
Him: A "housing activist."
Me: An architect who actually converts industrial structures into multifamily housing and who has the following opinion of him:
That there seems to be the problem with internet debates. The people doing the actual work know all the nuance and complications while the posers and influencers on here getting all the hits and eyeballs. Where's that 2 timing boyfriend gif when I need it?
Meanwhile, the Biden Administration took executive actions to the limit to encourage multifamily conversions and Kamala had the beginnings of a housing policy.
this is a realvpoint, but misses the crux that density makes plagues worse and so you can't simultaneously be an urbanist and also vote for the pro-Nurgle. like i don't want people with active cases of TB and measles in my backyard.
Actually Bobby is a MF developer & floor plan expert. Some of his work is similar to yours. He’s a great follow especially on family friendly housing & policies. Not a jerk so surprising Jemelle picked him to ratio. But he does have some blind spots & views on the election were very disappointing.
Him: “I was radicalized by covid.”
Me: [spent 34 of the last 59 months either hiding from that virus or being physically incapacitated by it, all the while hearing from many dozens of people just like him how worthless my whole life was] “Get over yourself and grow up.”
Well, playgrounds were closed for awhile, due in no small part to the confusion wrought by President Ignore-it-and-it-will-go-away. We didn’t know if it spread on surfaces, or how long it could stay on surfaces, so playgrounds were a possible point of infection.
Like, so many things that all these “I was radicalized by covid!” whiners complain about could have been avoided if American leadership had prioritized getting regular people the tools and information we needed to make informed choices. But they didn’t. Because Trump didn’t want to.
Please don't use all-inclusive terms like 'people'.
The term makes the statement an error, because not all people fail to take the courage of their convictions. 'Some people fail' makes the statement accurate.
Forgetting that the reasons that the liquor stores were open was to keep people from withdrawing from alcohol addiction so that they would not infiltrate the emergency rooms while they were dealing with thousands of very sick people. And the dog parks - there are no playground structures...

b/c I lived there for several years in the 00s and was invited into several friends' Oma's homes...
Amongst their walls of photos, almost every single one had at least one old tiny photo of a loved one in a Nazi soldier/luftwaffe uniform.
Same on Austrian Omas' walls
A lot of recent research is documenting the atrocities committed by the “regular army”.

Bobby is now getting the government he deserves. Unfortunately, so are the rest of us.

‘Who are you voting for in that case?’
“The guy who massively fucked up the COVID response nationally and who wants to put an anti-vax layer in charge of public health!”
‘Wcgw?’ 🙄
Even if he didn't want Harris as president -- if he wanted competence, he would have voted for Walz. The guy who can fix old trucks when he's not fixing his state.
I call BS.
Because no one’s discriminating against any Christian religion
What they want is for companies to be able to discriminate however they want to and pretend us for their faith.
Church isn’t enough. Kids aren’t stupid. Hearing lies once a week is only so effective.
But if they can get into the schools, propaganda and lies can be repeated daily to the most vulnerable.

Good Lord! 😂
He’s just excited he gets to be forward about it now.
Trump threw the AP out of the White House press briefing room because they refused to use his made up name for a body of water.
But sure.
After all this time, he still doesn't understand the basics.
Progressive is to make progress. To be against that is ridiculous.

We saw this in 2020 with Trump to Biden voters
They're just too perfectly dumb
