This is painful to read and illustrates perfectly why the humanities are just as important as STEM.
FACT: The most wildly intelligent & successful person I've ever known spent hours watching "The Dukes of Hazard" every day after school & four hours of cartoons every Sat.
The only thing he kinda got right was Friends reruns. Kids don't even watch TV much either, I even know this and I'm an old with no kids. Didn't even mention video games.
And then they blame feminism for why they’re still virgins instead of the fact that they can barely speak to a live human being w/o screaming or that they haven’t bathed or brushed their teeth in 2 weeks because they read some kind of weird sigma efficiency thing on reddit one time.
It's sad how many people think "being a functioning human being with interests outside of work" is the sign of a dysfunctional society. Sure, go ahead, earn a six figure salary by working 12 hours a day, but what will you *do* with it??
And it’s worth pointing out that while Zack Morris didn’t ultimately end up attending the school, he was accepted into Yale after getting a 1502 on his SATs. Between that and excelling at numerous extracurricular activities, not sure this is the worst role model for kids.
On Saturday mornings Vivek’s Pharma Mom taught him about useless shelved medications and his patent attorney dad taught him how to buy patents for useless drugs.
Both parents taught him how to manipulate support groups into encouraging investment in useless meds so Vivek & fam could make a killing
Funniest part of his “logic” is that what he means to say has nothing to do with producing the “best engineers” but rather the most engineers. Unless he means that AC Slater or Corey going dark nerd were going to be the ones that got us to living on Mars by now??
I'm about as pro-science and engineering as they come, but a smart person understands that creation is a result of 1. consistency of putting yourself in that mentality and 2. inspiration.
And you can't create at your highest level without inspiration. That means TV is fine.
I want him to continue with tv shows where we were focusing on the wrong character: more Martin Princes and less Bart, more Newman and less Jerry, more Donna less Laura Palmer...

"*multiple* sets"=2
Vivek: This is exactly how you must parent your children
There are like 6 layers of stupid to this whole thing. He should go watch some tv shows that will teach him about social grace.
Btw Zack Morris got a 1502 on the SATs and went to Yale, case dismissed
Ross was a working paleontologist when he was, like, 23. Talk about a role model for little dinosaur-loving geeks.
In a hyper-capitalist society it’s always about the money.

The take is insane.
