It shares a birth year with Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, Pete Davidson, Niall Horan, Alyson Stoner, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy III (aka VI), Mr. Bucket (toy-wise) and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers action figures. ☠️
Truth be told, Constantine was a wonderful B movie because it showed me that boys can be girls and girls can be angels, and despite of our births we can be anything. Tilda Swinton is divine, and Keanu Reeves sold his part well.
He was so young to be that good, and so unknown compared to the rest of the cast. It must have been an intimidating project, but you can *see* his relationship with Joaquin taking root. Everything about that role took serious confidence on his part, and he handled it beautifully imo.
But The Matrix films ARE my favorite Keanu Reeves films.
However, beyond that, probably in this order, Constantine, Johnny Mnemonic, and then the John Wick series, although he's been great in so many other films as well. And let's not forget the absurdity of the Bill and Ted movies
chiming in with another vote for constantine. wish they'd do the fucking sequel they said they were gonna do but instead we're just gonna get another four john wicks 😞
as someone who never read the comic and never cared about the character, Constantine is such a good and fun and kickass movie. keanu, peter stormare, tilda swinton as gabriel.....i could watch my copy on blu-ray over and over and over again
It *is* very violent. Depending on a person’s age & maturity, it might be better to wait. Heck, I’m turning 45 tomorrow, and I can’t handle a lot of horror flicks. They still give me nightmares!
Favourite? That's a tough pick - John Wick, and Constantine at the top of the list. This one always has a place, loved him with Patrick Swayze, and Gary Busey before his wheels fell off.
It's not a Keanu film per se, but his performance along with Bill Hurt as stoner hit-men Harlon and Marlon in "I Love You To Death" is not to be missed.
Although, honestly, Keanu’s performance was the weakest part of the movie.
But he was really young and sharing a film with Oldman and Hopkins. He’s improved since.
I've said this before, but Man of Tai Chi is his best Evil Villain work ever, and I will never stop talking about it. Cannot recommend that movie enough.
"Goodbye V, and never stop fighting" said by anyone else other than Johnny Silverhand (IRL/otherwise) would be seen as a pithy phrase, something easy to say. But with Johnny at that moment, you hear it and believe it. He (Keanu) is saying that out of the bottom of his heart. What an amazing game.
Definitely Point Break, went to a free Escapes screening last month, it was quite a blast seeing the surfing and skydiving on the big screen, and hearing the 90s alt-rock in a theatre.
It's a tough call between Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
So-crates - "The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing".
Ted: "That's us, dude."
don't get me wrong, Keanu is not TERRIBLE in the movie, he doesn't ruin it, AND in light of his later career I say with confidence that his meh performance is *not actually his fault*
Coppola admitted he only cast him for teeny bopper Tiger Beat teen girl money
all that to say Coppola had an actor with a lot of potential but relatively inexperienced (compared to 2020's Keanu) and probably didn't bother working with him to make the performance better
so what you get is a performance that's fine with a not great English accent that sticks out like a SORE thumb sandwiched between Anthony Hopkins and Cary Elwes and even Richard E Grant and even peak Billy Campbell as the other vampire hunters
Keanu was not *good* in the part, exactly. But intentionally or not (probably not) the movie walked a fine line between too serious and too campy, and Keanu helped tilt it towards not-serious.
Also, book-Harker is a kind of a helpless dweeb, so you don't necessarily *want* a top-flight actor. 😀
I recently just watched the first three John Wick movies for the first time. I know, I'm very behind on the times but they were amazing. It's rare that sequels get better with each installment but that's exactly what John Wick does.
Comments
Shoot. Now I need to find a streaming service to watch it 😭

I always thought Rita was a nice lady
Also you’ve only got two choices of lines: this, or “I need. A. Computer.” 😹
I also liked "Speed" and the "John Wick" movies were pretty good
This one is in my top five for Mr Reeves:
"Man of Tai Chi is a 2013 martial arts film directed by Keanu Reeves in his directorial debut."
There’s my answer

The Devil’s Advocate
Constantine
Dracula
I wish they would've never made sequels.
Although, honestly, Keanu’s performance was the weakest part of the movie.
But he was really young and sharing a film with Oldman and Hopkins. He’s improved since.
(And bill and ted’s excellent adventure)
I still can’t spell Cincinnati without singing it!
Sigh.
(It's the Matrix.)
Anyone who has seen it knows why I chose it. Anyone who hasn’t is missing out on one of his best performances.

"well who would you have cast, Josie?"
in 1992 Colin Firth was no less obscure that Richard E Grant and he looked like THIS:
watch for my YouTube series Headcasting Harker coming this summer
smash that button and so forth
Also, book-Harker is a kind of a helpless dweeb, so you don't necessarily *want* a top-flight actor. 😀
....no wait, I wouldn't have, I hate that film
