Focus group tonight. Offered them a chance between partnering with the US on a key policy issue or partnering with France. They were so pro-France I thought they were about to sing "La Marseillaise".

Reminds me that, as far as Renoir films go, “La Marseillaise” is better than “Les regles de jeu” or “La Grande Illusion”. Plus vivace, au moins. One of my top 20, and a lot more relevant now! Qu’un sang trumpiste abreuve nos sillons!
Of course La Marseillaise is a classic anthem. It's indelibly connected to French history and the fight for freedom. The fact the Beatles nicked the opening bars for the intro of All You Need Is Love is proof enough.
6 months ago I would watch Day of the Jackal and be disappointed when Edward Fox missed (like most Brits). Now I am strategic autonomy pilled. I am DeGuallemaxxing.
The French had the right idea on how to handle corrupt people in power, ya ask me.
They’re so preoccupied with the Nazi regime that they seem to have overlooked a revolution that took place not fair from Germany YEARS before World War 2 that didn’t end too well for the people in power…
It’s a sad day when France beats the USA at anything except soccer or cooking
This keeps up we will be a 3rd world country and with Trump asking Russia for help
We’re fucked if we don’t fight and get to the streets
Was seeing some discussion on a rail forum online a few days back about how this may have also been the case had a road bridge been built alongside the Eurotunnel as was once mooted. Would’ve made cross-Channel travel much smoother and open to a far larger number of Brits.
I've often thought, half humouriusly, that one of the reasons we've had so many fights with the French is that despite some obvious differences, our national characters have quite a lot of similarities.
As one of those "bl*dy foreigners" who's been living in the UK for nearly three decades now: hardly any similarities.
Maybe that's how Brits might think of themselves, maybe that's how you'd like to be, but "national characters" are deeply, deeply different.
As a citizen of both I'm finding your comment quite odd. Both are still recovering from the delusions of empire, they're both strong military powers with a sense of their own importance and a long literary and maritime tradition.
This brought to mind the scene in Casablanca where the French expatriates start singing the "La Marseilaise" in response to the Nazis singing some German Drinking Song. Now that you mention it, what is happening now gives new meaning to that Academy Award-winning movie.
Personally, when I hear “La Marseillaise” I tear up thinking of the brave men and women who fought the Nazis in the streets of their towns and fields in two World Wars.
Viva la France!!🇫🇷🇫🇷
I went to Normandy, France to honor the WW2 service of my grandfather. I've always loved France and our international partnership. But, the most precious souvenir I brought home is a jar of sand from that visit.
🎵Allons enfants de la Patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé!...🎵
Backpacked Europe in ‘71 and loved it! Traveled thru France and marveled at the kindness of the people. Shared lots of laughs over charades due to my deplorable French!🇫🇷
In my case, I worked on improving my accent but neglected to expand my vocabulary. So, I would start a conversation and, hearing the accent, they'd think I was fluent and respond accordingly. 😬
My facial expression was the equivalent of the sound of a vinyl record scratching.😂
They play it on a speaker and the crackly music really makes it hauntingly beautiful in an open air setting. We live in an area which had a lot of atrocities and also many Resistance fighters and that song really brings it home to you
I’ve read so many history books and novels about both World Wars, and the stories of small cadres guiding people to safety, sabotaging trains, watching and reporting. The Army had orders, Resistance had themselves.
The reality of 2025: The US is making itself the enemy of free people everywhere. It is going to get much worse – wait till Trump seizes Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Which is even funnier if you know that Quebecois French has a heavy Norman influence. Not sure about the Acadians. Yes, there's more than one French Group in Canada.

Like Trump for example.

We are way more like the French than the Americans

Can't think of two countries more alike, frankly.
I'm aware of the differences, that's what both of us enjoy 😀

Our government is controlled by bad faith actors and liars.

Everything sounds better in French!

You lucky dog! The scenery, food, wine, and the accent! I admit it; I’m jealous!

I’m self reliant, an artist, an activist for the left (liberal).
Too old to be in combat, but I can help in other ways while the U.S. is attempting a hostile takeover.
Please?
Hillary was always right. He’s “Putin’s Puppet”.
Once you realize everything he and Musk are doing is aid for Russia, it all makes sense. They’re both Russian Sympathizers!
#DeportTrumpandMusktoRussia!
If you can get past the Parisians and speak Canadian french.
Gotta love the French.
Mind you, try going to Quebec and speaking with an Ontario accent. 😉
