there was that guy who was an actual CFA (handle was something like Zero Sum Game) screaming about how tesla would get like 50-60% gross margins on storage. He also promoted EOSE and started a little cult over that company. Very funny stuff
anyhow to the inventory point, the 26k unit overproduction is pretty similar to last year in Q1. They seem to have inventories basically under control, which also implies *gross* margins don't get that hard. but those costs end up somewhere.
much is always made of something - this stock was our first tell (well over a decade ago) that the normal rules no longer apply. it is a perpetual motion pump and dump.
Re energy storage, suspect the same dynamics with seen cars will start to play out - much cheaper, just as good if not better non Tesla options with China leading the way ie: 👇
With this much inventory, I wonder if it even makes sense for Tesla insurance just to completely replace totaled Teslas instead of paying out. They've got thousands of unsold ones, just give people a new one at this point lmao
Well, how can you tell they are not trying to hide the figures ? Do you have the réal ones ? Or are you relying on their figures to tell they are reliable ?
well these numbers are bad and largely in line with what we have seen ?? remeber the two largest markets are US and china and not so much europe ? if it is worse, then ...
I’m just saying that publishing bad results is in no way a proof they are correct. The real ones might be worse. Or better (it all depends on how he wanted the market to react).
xAI just bought Twitter for $33 billions. We can trust Elon when it comes to give us real figures 😏
Yeah China is ~1/4 revenue, US ~1/2. The -13% YoY decline implies some pretty solid results in the US given what we know from Europe/China/Canada/Australia.
I'm not sure if I should name an ETF or a metal band after that.
Maybe, just a documentary about financial fraud. The sequal can be Concepts of a Prophet, about religious fraud.
Troy Teslike’s delivery estimate was over 5% too high, and he is generally around +|- 2%. Stock should be down 10% or more.
Here is Troy’s revised estimate breakdown
I think public perception is a big part of this, but also it's just hard to run a company like tesla and elon makes it even harder by being elon and also focusing on things other than running tesla.
if the ceo of ford decided to be a deep-sea explorer, ford management would suffer.
I have to disagree. They do better when he isn't involved. Him getting more involved is what killed it. The Cybertruck really is stupid, ugly, expensive, low performance and doesn't even evoke cool Brutalism but rather starfox64 polygons.
I can believe he was essential at one point. Dismiss his being visionary or a great engineer. To gamble on a new manufacturing approach and survive a slow ramp up without investors bailing, it requires something special.
That phase is long over, he’s clearly a huge drag now.
Yah, he thought he was Steve Jobs with the iPhone when he pushed the cybertruck but really he was doing Homer bankrupting his uncle's car company. He's supposed to be the lead mascot/cheerleader. Not head engineer.
that's a reasonable point. but remember a big part of the tesla valuation is elon. it's a mistaken understanding of where tesla's value come from, but we can't deny that without elon tesla would be run properly *and* be valued like a normal company
twitter, space-x, tesla, starlink....any one of these would be a full time ceo job. but he's out here playing politics and turning into himmler and that is inevitably going to destroy shareholder value even if tsla wasn't massively overvalued.
...and next quarter will be worse! The #teslatakedown only started really going about halfway through February. And now we're moving into a recession, so even if people don't care on way or the other about Elon, fewer cars will be bought.
TSLA is a shrinking company, and picked up downhill speed.
Keep in mind, that includes January when things were mostly rolling along status quo pre-nazi salute. Brand declined throughout the Q. And there’s probably demand pulled forward ahead of tariffs/loss of EV tax credit.
The inventory for the dealership by me is piling up to the point that they’ve started stashing them in a section of the parking lot of the big shopping mall near me (and mall security is guarding them, lmao).
Remember the $400m line item to buy Teslas? My money is on that still happening. Musk will offload his inventory of crap on the American taxpayers because… That’s what he always does.
George did you ever expect to become the top financial guru/influencer on a social media site full of communists. the top asset for most of us is our Ethel Cain CD collection and a ton of half finished crafts
LOL it’s only going to get worse. Here in SoCal, we’re probably the largest domestic market for EVs, and people are feeling uncomfortable driving them. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen Teslas with bumper stickers rebuking Elon. The brand is toxic.
Any reason why the market is barely punishing this? Feels like any other company would see a severe hit on their stock price if this info was about them…
Tbh I was expecting to see even worse numbers for Model 3/Y, -12% when their sales have literally crashed in Europe is kinda disappointing. Still really bad overall but I would have hoped for even more.

So, I ask, what the actual fuck is your problem?

There are so many EVs to choose from now that anyone buying a Tesla is doing so because they want a Tesla.
Arguably the biggest piece.
If they cannot fulfill the carbon credit pool, things will go south fast.

Kicks the can for the bag holders another quarter, at which point I'm sure it'll be all about the CyberCab "ramp".
There's always a narrative that keeps this stock from realizing anything that approximates intrinsic value somehow.

Musk is going to come back and fix everything by,... I guess not being himself anymore?
Bad news, Elon, this will be your best quarter of 2025.
BYD eating your lunch in China
EU doesn’t want.
If you want a Tesla in the US can get a used one for basically nothing.
(I expected them to be even worse and we saw the fraud they tried to pull in Canada.)
