Depends on the context. If I'm the one strapped to an operating table, no. If I'm the one standing over my clone ready to harvest their organs, also no.
Nah. Not in a deceitful way but we would both social-anxiety-spiral about one just saying what the other wanted to hear to help the social-anxiety-spiraling they know they're going through.
But maybe after a few more years of therapy!
genetic twin, or perfect duplicate? i'd trust my duplicate, of course—i know myself to be trustworthy. anyone who says they wouldn't is really telling on themselves.
unless there's a highlander rule or something, but that would ruin any personal relationship, so that's out of scope
Yeah definitely and when the weather is nice I’d do every other day at work with my clone and the other one of us gets to go play golf or do whatever. I suppose I’d have to move somewhere without potentially nosy neighbors and deciding on who goes to weddings/vacations/funerals would be tough…
So if we know who is the clone I think I would trust the clone because we'd agree he goes his own way keeps his hands off my wife but if we don't know who is the clone I think the wife situation would cause strife and distrust.
Lol me and my clone would be the two most gullible fools anyone ever saw. Just reassuringly squeezing each other's hand every time one of us got ripped off or taken advantage of. I could trust my clone with my life to be honest, but not to be smart.
I just asked my husband this question and he immediately said no. So I pressed him on it, was he thinking it was a nature vs nurture thing, and he was worried the clone wouldn’t have the benefit of nurture? He thought I said “would you trust your cologne.” Anyways, we cleared it up, he’s a yes.
Oh wow oh no. The fucked up thing is: yes, to some extent, like as long as cooperating was mutually beneficial
but I'd never REALLY trust it bc I KNOW that if someone threw a knife down between us and said "There can only be one", it'd be like "Bet" way too quickly
There's a subplot in Invincible where this supervillain keeps cloning himself and then he and the clone never know which one is the original and they keep fighting about it and killing each other and then the surviving one clones himself, rinse, repeat
If my clone can provide the passcode I memorized in case of time travel shenanigans, then sure. BUT, what if he expects ME to provide it? I haven’t prepared for that. Time to update the protocols!
Star Trek Transporter clone? Yes. Genetic clone with accelerated aging and my memories transfered into his head? Also yes. Genetic clone raised by a caring community? Absolutely.
Tom Hardy claiming to me my secret-government-program, populist revolutionary, war-crimes doing clone?
Is my clone the exact same age as me or is it just being conceived in a lab right now? Because if its the latter, I'm not trusting that guy for AT LEAST the next 25 years.
Definitely! I like me and wouldn’t want them to come to harm and if it’s a copy of me they feel the same. I watched a couple of movies recently where there are sometimes multiple copies of people (Tenet and Triangle) and it got me thinking about this too.
I think the experiences the clone has had in his life (or her if the clone is cis for some reason) would drastically effect ethics and goals so I would trust my clone as much as I would a stranger.
I don't think I would. I feel like my clone would be VERY likely to do everything I stop myself from doing, then when I told them to behave more reasonably they would mock me and tell me I was just jealous. I don't know why I'm convinced it would go down this way, it's just what seems most plausible
If it's like The Prestige and she's an exact copy, yeah totally and completely. If something that looks like me knocks on the door I'll have some questions though
But, unless he has all your life experiences, your clone is just physical you. So that means you’d trust him just because he looks like you?
Not sure if I’d trust mine but I hope they give her better skin and a few more inches.
Lois McMaster Bujold has some fantastic novels that touch on this (Brothers in Arms, first, though it's part of a larger series). "Miles, what have you done with your baby brother?"

Tricky situation as you must avoid touching yourself for obvious reasons.

I'd have to track that clone down and burn it to ashes.
One of me is an affront to decency, two is unthinkable.
Plus I know that bastard's secrets. He has to die.
Additionally, she has fantastic fashion sense.
Tom Hardy claiming to me my secret-government-program, populist revolutionary, war-crimes doing clone?
No.
In fact, that seems likely—that or *you* created it for spare parts or something in which case it has reason to defend itself from you.
Then we'll do all the tricks from the Illusionist in order to take down the Austro-Hungarian empire (we can't say it won't happen again)
Not sure if I’d trust mine but I hope they give her better skin and a few more inches.
