This conversation should not occur behind closed doors.
But to demonstrate his ability to have the Democrats finally bring a gun to the political gunfight with Trumpers, he's gotta clear the obstructions inside the party first. This doesn't have to happen before deciding the chairmanship.
He doesn't have to do that to win the DNC chairmanship. But he does if he's going to regrow a Dem party worth supporting.
Also, whatever her faults Hillary is no apparatchik.
Although DNC chair isn’t an ideology or messaging position directly, it does have a role in creating the principles one organizes around and the priority of groups of people organized.
I realize I am mansplaining to the person I come to for political wisdom. But articulating these thoughts are useful to me
But -- and here I'm speculating -- he hasn't yet had a national party and donor base trying to submarine him. Like Ellison.
After Trump won in 2016, the Dem leadership intervened to anoint Tom Perez DNC chair BECAUSE a real progressive was about to be elected.
And whenever i'd see Ben campaigning for Wisconsin I'd sadly say "why don't we (nationally) have that?"
I'm thrilled he's running. Hopefully the delegates get it and feel the same. 🤞
One less thing to battle over for the Dems.
