@whitehouse.senate.gov too, because based on what I just heard on @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com's show, he has a better grasp on the actual danger of the cybercrime than any other lawmaker I've heard so far.
Agree with all save Schiff.
Schiff is lazy.
Unfortunately he's one of California's two senators.
Both useless.
He could not be bothered to have his phone numbers set up until maybe a week ago.
He only reports the news everyone already knows.
Massive disappointment.
It's disappointing. No former presidents are saying anything either! Mike Pence finally put himself out there, but have our leaders become so comfortable, removed, and privileged that they just can't flex that activist muscle and call this what it is?
The Obamas did not take anyone’s money. They were not running but still went above & beyond + grunt work/heavy-lift. They presciently warned re: the stakes; were ignored, attacked, disrespected, told to go away. They don’t owe anyone anything. No more dumping on the Obamas for the f*ck-ups of others
It's not 'dumping on the Obamas' to expect the leading Democrats in this country (which they very much are) to speak out against the Nazis in the White House.
All Democrats with a big platform must speak out as forcefully as they did at last summer's convention.
The Obamas spoke, pleaded, presciently articulated what was at stake. Mrs Obama, still in mourning having just lost her mother, still more than did her part. She was attacked, blamed, disrespected, told to go away. Let the elected pols who want the gig do the grunt work https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5DGsAjXQwY4&t=113s&pp=2AFxkAIB
This topic should have all people who value Democracy speaking out. All Hands On Deck means everyone; the silence from our leaders (& former ones) is surprising; even the media hesitates to call it fascism. Pritzker labeled it in his State of the Union; Pence addressed who started the Ukraine war.
The Obamas have done their part. Pritzker & Pence nurse WH dreams - they & all their fellow contenders can go for it. It’s about time these fellas pull their weight. The Obamas have been doing the grunt work/heavy-lift for far too long & have more than taken enough abuse, blame, disrespect with it.
I've had the chance to check these folks out today.
Crockett I already knew about and agree she is a firebrand, along with Raskin. Terrific choices.
Frost and Presley (not on BlueSky) make the cut.
Swalwell is one to watch. Not there yet.
Thank you for these suggestions, J.
Much appreciated.
Good one.
Thank you for pointing out @seancasten.bsky.social
I had a look at his account and you are right.
He is talking the talk.
We're up to six now.
Well done, my friend.
Can we get to ten?
Great find, K.
I never heard of him before and he is in the Golden State.
I'm in the north, he's in the south, but Yippee!
Happy he is working for our team.
Thank you.
Fabulous.
My list likes your list.
We can merge and keep going.
Lots of people are mentioning Murphy.
Kaine I've heard mixed reviews about, but will have a look at his time line.
It would be great to a list of the politicians who are fighting back every day.
They are not in California.
Hi Marsha-- have you ever created a bluesky starter pack? Seems a good thing to do might be to create a starter pack of Dems fighting the good fight. I guess once folks subscribe then they get updates too. I haven't created one sorry to say. But I'll keep looking for the Dems!
I think we in Illinois are particularly surprised and pleased. His handling of pandemic; just about everything - it’s really hard to find fault. We’re not used to solid ethical leadership. Ofc no one is perfect. But his unflappably personality gives me confidence. 2028!
@repjasmine.bsky.social has been tireless in calling out the F’Elon Admin. @raskin.house.gov, & @chrismurphyct.bsky.social also vocal and yes, I want more. I want someone to use a CR movement tactic: enter a fed agency, daring Elon’s private mercenaries to arrest them & raise holy hell for assault
I wish Newsom could, but I don't think he dares because SoCal is so desperate for federal help. I don't think the people who lost everything want it either. If Trump cuts off federal aid, a distinct possibility, then I would expect some fire and brimstone. He constituents will need to hear it.
I do not think the Nazis in the White House will give us the money no matter how nice we are.
They hate California.
Trump is a massive grudge holder.
Newsom taunted him for years.
He will punish the Golden State.
Big time.
Agree, but the last thing Newsome should do is give TFG juicy quotes to justify him screwing CA. I’ve never been a Newsome fan but appreciate the difficult position he’s in.
This was my thought too. He cut some sharp teeth as AG during T1. I have been hoping for that fighting spirit as Gov. It’s coming out more bipartisan and balanced, protect all Washingtoians as Gov in media I’ve seen. But he’s just getting started.
I think that’s right, he’s brand new, and we have a budget deficit in WA that needs attention. He doesn’t want to have locals think he’s neglecting our needs by being focused on the national picture, that would get his administration off to a very bad start.
Agreed. I don’t think he’s wrong fwiw. Was just making an observation. He’s also got Nick Brown to throw punches. Showing all that WA is 1st priority makes sense. I mean, as an example of my feelings about WA state govt, we really want to move back to WA if we can. Being around DC right now is hell.
Lot of responses here mentioning many other people. I want to re-emphasize that I’m talking about Governors who of course have executive power, which makes them different in our system.
I think our governor in WA will step up eventually—he sued a lot as our AG during Trump 1—but he’s brand new and properly focused on WA right now. Our outgoing governor Inslee was quite vocal right after the election. But yes the silence from many of them has been deafening.
Caveat: In many states, elected Attorney General's and Secretary's of State independently wield considerable executive power that, at the federal level, is under the President's authority.
Say, I like your posts & reposts, Marsha, so I'm following you. Check out my daily 🧵of editorial cartoons, pinned to my profile, to see if you want to follow me back.
Is it because Pritzker too also has significant wealth though? Not that it’s the only thing but it does give him strength outside of that. (I’m looking at you, Polis.)
I think that's right. Still not a good look. But his actions have to be seen in that context. It's a tough spot to be in. And of course the need for those in the LA area is profound.
Also Gavin Newsom is an adulterer who behaved like Boris Johnson during COVID - violating his own shutdown requirements to party - who has only gotten elected in a far left blue state. He is the most plausible worst national representative for the Democratic party.
Don't forget the direct blackmail shitler did - wasting millions of gallons of water that California needs, just because it's under federal control and fuck you.
The message "I'll do it again if you don't shut up" was not lost.
There are dozens of Democratic Senators and Governors who could plausibly run for president. If they don’t speak up during these times, then they won’t win a primary. Governor Pritzker is the only one who may realize that. We need leaders.
@govmaurahealey.bsky.social you shame Massachusetts with your lack of Revolutionary spirit. Stop the ribbon cutting ceremonies and harness the power of our blue state economy! No more red welfare!
She won because she was going up against an actual Nazi, not because she was loved. Truthfully even though our previous Gov. Baker is conservative I’d trust him to hold the line over Healey.
She either has to strap on some iron tits or we need to trade up.
with all the talent we have at this level of politics, it's a crying shame that we're not seeing more lions, more defenders of the faith (so to speak), ready to articulate and fight for a theory and practice of civil society that's been our ****ing norm forever
"Richard Hofstadter to the barricades"
Yes and the key thing is that in our system Govs have real power. They're not legislators in the minority. They have circumscribed but very real executive power. So they can do things that no legislator can.
Road to 26/28 is long...I can understand State Gov's/Others calibrating their moves...and in the class war we have Pritzker as a billionaire may not be the 'paper choice'...but he is rising up in this moment of need and earning street/heart cred...country most important...he is earning (my) votes...
I don't think talent has much to do with it. It's just numbers: there are a lot of governors, and national media doesn't pay much attention to them except when there's a natural disaster or a presidential primary campaign.
I think it signifies something meaningful: the hunger to become governor and the insight that this is where your voters are. Incumbent governors have an incentive structure that diffuses primary voter pressure.
And even beyond Democratic partisans no one will look back at this period and say I was really impressed by the people who were cautious and trying to figure out what to do. Decisiveness is an attractor for most videos apart from direction and content.
Right. Watch the NJ and VA governor primaries. I think they will become nationalized referenda, and the leading candidates will take a hard line on Trump.
Gov Healey here in MA is fighting hard, but not matching Pritzker's wit. There's a structural problem that Dem governors have a job to do running their states, they can't be full-time activists. And with 20+ Dem governors, national media won't pay much attention to most of them.
i cut him a bit of slack. because the fires put him in a tough position to be getting into with trump at the moment. not saying that makes it okay. but that has to figure into the mix.
Why didnt Biden hand Newsom a check on the way out instead of making him beg Trump for money? Let me guess. Its against the rules, lolz. Why did Biden put CA in this situation? Cant Ds do anything right?
You're kind.
BUT, California has the 5th largest economy in the world.
We are our own country financially. We don't have to be silent. We can keep our money and pay for the fires ourselves.
We cannot allow the fires to silence us.
And that is what Newsom is doing.
It's like nothing else matters.
He's also not really good at it, anyway. It calls for gravitas and authenticity. Whatever the most charitable spin you could put on Newsom's political skills, gravitas and authenticity are not among them.
To be sure, much CA could be doing action-wise and they've made some (not enough) moves in that direction. They're doing their part among states w/ rapid response litigation. But Newsom is not cut out for a national leadership role for the same reason he'll never be a serious presidential candidate.
As someone who lives in CA I can see that Newsom has pulled back. Families are hurting from the fires and there will be more - we need that federal aid. But he’ll term out pretty soon and then Trump had better watch out.
CA here. That's about right. I certainly didn't hear any grumbling about it. He'll be back on the fucknoist front lines soon enough. Also, CA is all in on legal challenges.

If she has, I'm not seeing anything about it.
An updated iteration of the "know nothing" movement.

She's fabulous.
Definitely deserves a bigger platform.
Good one.
Thank you.
Would love to hit 10 politicians we can actually respect.
Thank you.
You are right.
Jasmine Crockett is fabulous.
Thank You.
There seemed like there might be some steam building at the time of the congressional protest outside USAID on Feb 3 but that petered out.
Would love to hit 10 politicians we can actually respect.
Thank you.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, RI.
Thank you.
Our list is growing.
I am encouraged.
We have warriors out there.
Schiff is lazy.

Massive disappointment.
I have been stunned by the silence of the Obamas, Harris, the Clintons (Hillary has spoken out a bit)
I've even wondered if they have left the country.
It's awful after they took everyone's money all of last year 'to win the election.'
All Democrats with a big platform must speak out as forcefully as they did at last summer's convention.

Very disappointed in the politicians there.

Nearly everyone loves Tim, right?
@govpritzker.illinois.gov though has turned out to be quite extraordinary.
Pritzker is by far the best governor in America from my observation.
Walz is up there too.
And Gretchen Whitmer.
Gavin Newsom, our governor in California, is always disappointing. Especially lately.

More of that, please.
You are so right.
I want millions of us to break down the doors and take back our country.
Meanwhile your three politicians are great. Thank you. Definitely adding them to the list.
Lot of people mentioning them.
He is impressive.
Sorely disappointed in Newsom; Whitmer; Walt; et al.
Newsom taunted Trump for four years, then when it mattered he shut up.
I appreciate your opinion.

Newsom too, after taunting Trump for years.
Thank you for the introduction.
I applaud you on your well-curated timeline.

"Richard Hofstadter to the barricades"
whatever comes next can't (and won't) be status quo ante
credible deterrence and popular support are going to matter a lot
good on Pritzker for framing this struggle
