I was thinking it looked like a red rock crab. Same shape/habitat/taste as a Dungeness, but reddish/purple and just a little smaller (which makes them less attractive commercially, so you never see them in stores, but they're much more plentiful in the wild).
Yeah the photo depicts family Cancridae (Dungeness crab and relatives, I can't be sure exactly which species). Blue crab is in family Portunidae. They are separated by 100 million years of evolution
