I always look at the male end to make sure I have it straight, still miss it, look at the female end to make sure I have the male end right. Repeat at least three times. Getting old sucks.

My dog loves to chase laser point (yeah, come at me for animal abuse...stfu). Her laser is USB charged. Every time I plug it right I do a small victory dance that involves her, too, so now, she attentively observes the process and immediately starts the dance after my victory shout!

What? That has never, ever happened. What you are describing is as likely to happen as the Easter Bunny riding a Unicorn to the North Pole to have dinner with Santa.
USB-a plugs have a long and short side. If you place a white dot with a marker on the cable to mark the long side ... you forget which side of the plug has the dot.
BTW, they knew how to make USB reversable from the start, but it would have doubled the price. Good thing Apple didn't it invented first; would have been in the hundreds of dollars. (kidding).
Sometimes certain devices can be damaged from high use, also there's usb 2.0 type c devices that are position-specific since 3.0 was what allowed for effective assymetry in function.
Usually it's the d+/d- lines that are at fault for positioning failure; Usb specifications below 3.0 are also prone to this flaw as it wasn't implemented fully yet.
There's an old joke about USB - A - it only goes in one way, but sometimes it takes three tries. Now, if you are using USB-C, which is supposed to go in either way, but if you don't position it absolutely right. But still, I'm happy that C is taking over and A will eventually be obsolete.
You have that problem too? 🤣 I have issues with the switches by the sink. Namely, the disposal coming on when I try to

Yeah, for tech newbies stickin' 'em in sideways. heh.
But for anyone accustomed to USB, it's practically 50-50. Also, posting a stat without a source won't exactly convince anyone. I assume you're jokin'.

Paul Atreides inserts the USB drive the right way up the first time.
Stilgar: "Lisan Al-Gaib!"
w*i*t*c*h*c*r*a*f*t!
Tossed it, new cable works perfectly.
The new cable has much better strain relief, so hopefully that won't happen again.

I use a phrase because I can see the USB image facing towards me when it'll be inserted correctly.
Then I say USB to ME..Because it's facing me.
Results may vary.

That is physically impossible, unless you’re talking about USB-C.
However, USBs completely disprove probability theory.
There is, in fact, not a single verified case of a human correctly plugging in a USB on the first attempt.
The global average is somewhere around 2.8 attempts.
But for anyone accustomed to USB, it's practically 50-50. Also, posting a stat without a source won't exactly convince anyone. I assume you're jokin'.
