the "move fast and break things" musk fanboys don't seem to appreciate that the rule of law and justice acts to keep people bought in, if you break the governing order and rule of law the consequences will bend back on you
Hard disagree. The problem last time around, and the reason there's still a Lost Cause problem, was insufficient hatred and revenge. Lots more of it this time, please.
The version of liberalism that came on the other side of the first Trump Administration was Joe Biden and all indications (Fetterman, Polis, Shapiro) are that Democrats are gonna go even further right than Biden in the next election to try to win “the center”
sadly this is probably the truth. The DNC is obsessed with the mythical “centrist” voter…. if they went hard left they would actually win elections, but we can’t have that because it might make the corporate donors mad.
Conservatives were the first victim. The MAGA killed conservatism. Most of them didn’t even notice as they were fascists in waiting, and happy to join. And it doesn’t make sense anymore because there’s no tradition to ‘conserve’ as extremists from the right have killed all ‘traditions.’
Normies need to get in the fight, show grit, determination, and vision. I rag on leftists, but at least they’re loud. When we come out of this, we need strong FDR type liberalism. If we fail and leftists fill the void we won’t like it and honestly I think the American people might reject us again.
civil era memes go crazy. honestly memes pre-2019 being complete ass kinda points to the ongoing fascist deterioration of society - memes aren't good when times are good
Methodists and Episcopalians have split over the ordination of women and acceptance of gays. Episcopalians also updated the Book of Common Prayer, which upset some members.
A presidential system will still be acceptable if we move the Justice Department from the executive to the judiciary, depoliticize the courts, abolish the Senate, up the size of the House, and ditch the electoral college.
I mean the nice thing about a billionaire and his weird incel squad tearing literally the entire federal government apart is that once they’re done we’re going to have to rebuild starting from scratch.
Just like the Constitution learned from the Articles of Confederation we’ll learn from this.
I have zero confidence in my party to show any sort of spine whatsoever after they gave Trump a pass on J6. They’ll sing kumbaya and talk about bipartisanship and lowering the temperature when what we need is military tribunals.
I mean, we're *progressives.* Let's progress to a beautiful sustainable solarpunk future where life is more than "Better than that fuckup in 2024." Dream big.
I’ve always been an FDR / Bernie fan . I still voted for Hillary & Biden & Kamala bc I Knew these Repub donors did not believe in USA .. they had a 1774 Tories Party view . Well , here we are & I do believe the “Let them eat Cake Party “ will get their due finally . #StayStrong🇺🇸
i wouldn’t be surprised if all that happens after this is just pardons and non-prosecutions, or short slaps on the wrist that get massively magnified by media resulting in prosecutors easing up even more
Who cares. We ain’t here to please them, we are here to progress human rights and dignity, reduce inequality, corruption, cruelty. Couldn’t give a fuck what fascists, racists, hateful, bigoted authoritarians like. I already know they hate life and other humans, that’s all i need to know about them.
There are a lot of measures that will be taken in response to the Trump era that would have been unthinkable only a few weeks ago. Things like expanding the court.
The Dreyfus Affair comparisons are obvious: the conservatives all go mad together, then send all the libs mad. I'm absolutely not looking forward to seeing the consequences.
There’s going to be energy for an Article V convention to abolish the Senate, up the size of the House, put spending limits on elections, codify every civil right that originated in the Warren court and since, insulate the judiciary from politics, and curtail Presidential power.
Bush sent anthrax to the Democratic senate leader and the response was to drop the investigation. After the business plot, Vietcong meetings, Iraq, multiple FBI field office ratfuckings, and Iran hostages why would they have anything to fear? They've gotten away with ~every scheme since Lincoln.
breaking down the anti-corruption norms and turning the executive into a termed monarch is something you do when you think you’ll never give up power again. i think they will be out of power in about 4 years
i think we’re going to have a strong political incentive to do retaliatory politics against constituencies which do not support you and enforced compliance against the elite. if these are the rules, it does not encourage unilateral disarmament
I had a similar thought earlier today: if one side has allowed itself to use political violence, the other side now has an incentive to play the same strategy – ie, to also use political violence
Weaponizing disaster aid was a huge, dumb decision, for a party that relies heavily on hurricane-prone states where voters obsess over the cost of living.
The TechBros in particularly are hugely vulnerable to political retaliation once Dems seize power because they and their companies are not popular on either side. Dems can smash them with anti-trust if the will is there
Every day this isn't curb-stomped into oblivion, it becomes more ingrained. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. Day 19 becomes twice as difficult as Day 18 to stop this.
I grew up in post-Nazi Holland and Switzerland. Chuck and Hakeem are bad at this
I’ve tried to tell my MAGA father this as we go through the constant cycle of “he won’t do that/now that he has I’m for it”. Sulla paved the way for Caesar, and Trump will pave the way for the American Caesar. The only way all these moves work out for Republicans is Trump never leaves office or dies
Once you rip the bandaid off of “I’m a president for all Americans” vs being President for some, and you get rid of civility and any sense of following norms- you’re going to create one mean fucking follow up to Trump whose mission is to do to Red America what Trump is trying to do to blue
Yup, the Sulla-Caesar road is what we're on, unfortunately.
But if we're on it, we need to do what we can to secure the most important tenants of liberalism as our political structure evolves into something else.
Me, on the other hand? I'm gonna love ending "but what if we ruin this fine young man's future" thinking and bringing in "you called him WHAT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU AND YOUR PARENTS" haterade.
Then they better count on the type of response that they’ve only read about in history books and ironically have had wet dreams about since they bought their first firearm.
I was very meh on wealth taxes on general free market principles and the fact I don’t think they would actually raise the amount of revenue people are looking for.
Now I think it’s time to break the billionaire class
but in all seriousness we’ve seen capitalist liberalism lead us to this point. unequal accumulations of wealth (aka power) will degrade into fascism and we need a mass workers movement to forestall our societal collapse into a techno-hellscape.
I agree leftism needs to have better branding to win because American brains run on aesthetics. we must make hating nazis cool again.
but actually it’s about expanding the idea of what is economic success: I think most people would want a future where their basic needs are taken care of
I think the Democratic nominee for president in 2028 should explicitly run on a platform of Elon Musk spending the remainder of his natural life in federal prison and total expropriation of his wealth.
Yeah I know but Bernie is not the Dems. You understand these milquetoast folks cannot fake, at all, that they are putting up a fight. Bernie put up a fight and he galvanized people as a result.
It doesn’t matter what would win in a presidential race if Dems keep rigging primaries - they actively root out progress in the primary and put a status quo person up every time. They are just going to run Kamala again and she literally drafted the bill violating your tech privacy as we speak.
Yeah, no they didn’t. They ran against Trump, himself, not billionaires. They like billionaires. They ran against his corruption, not the whole systemic corruption that they are also a part of, hence the fact that it’s even progressed this far.
You are an optimist if you believe that there will be an election that the fascists can lose in 2028.
They will probably fix that bug before the midterm election
I’d love that but do they have the credibility? Who the fuck would believe Democrats could jail anyone? It seems like liberals are known for protecting and excusing Republicans.
I want a hardcore anti-corruption candidate that openly says they are going after the looters and grifters shaking down the country. But I also realize that while the looters and grifter control the machinery, that's a very dangerous public position (like physical safety).
Once in office, offer a compromise whereby the president agrees to drop the lawfare if Congress sends him a bill that establishes DoJ as a truly independent agency insulated from political control. Maybe tack on a few other reforms to the demand. IDK.
I would support the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice having their own constitutional articles as separate branches from the executive.
Meaningful court reform is outlawing cash bail, eliminating three strikes laws, outlawing the death penalty, universal legal aid, functional LEAs, etc. Things that help the majority of people.
Yes, billionaires should be held accountable. That's an us problem. Those laws are on the books already.
All people in political office must live like the poorest in their district i.e. sleeping on the streets with minimum wage and cut off from their family. After serving terms they must never speak to their co workers again, never mention their time served, and must get the same job as before
As long as we're dreaming: Replace the Supreme Court with a judge from each federal court district. Either have them all argue the cases en banc, or draw 9 names out of a hat. Corrupting one judge is easy, if they can do 100, we don't have a rule of law.
I didn’t come up with this idea, but it’s my favorite I’ve heard:
We should massively expand and restructure the court. Promote every Court of Appeals Judge to Justice. SCOTUS cases are heard by 1 random Justice from each circuit, totaling to 13 Justices.
There may be a few more things out there, better ethics enforcement and oversight, maybe make a separate non-partisan agency independent of the courts to oversee that. But frankly, what you put forward addresses about 99% of it.
Impeach every justice trump nominated and thomas/alito/roberts if they're still around. Don't care that it's political, they're hacks and they got us here, nuke em.
We should do hammurabi's law for sex pests. We should crush car dealerships. We should impose license requirements on VC. We should ban crypto currency and gambling. We should charge farmers for water.
Apropos of absolutely nothing, I have been trying to place who I thought JB Pritzker looked like for weeks now, and only seeing this photo next to FDR did I realize that he looks like John Goodman playing Huey Long.
What Pritzker and FDR have in common besides being class traitors is being impervious to the wails of the DC media and how things used to be done. A Pritker-fied Dem trifecta is going push hard to achieve big things and isn’t going to be bound by things like the filibuster and SCOTUS.
Evangelicals will hate Constitution 2.0, which has rights to bodily autonomy. Ensures abortion rights, likey ends the drug war. Oh and can really make that domestic violence they love to do to women and children even more illegally. Especially if we leave some of the tech bros AI crap behind.

liberals today: AS HE DIED TO MAKE THEY/THEM HOLY SO SHALL WE TO SET THEM FREE
Good memes produce easy times
Easy times produce weak-ass memes
Though “weak-ass memes produce hard times” is just stancilism.
Then you get yelled at by your constituents and it's like "Oooh, I have to be meaner to the OTHER guy" and now we're here.
There is no world other than this;
There is no heaven and no hell;
The realm of Shiva and like regions,
are fabricated by stupid imposters.
I read that the Presbyterians (of America) split from the Presbyterians (US) because of liberal theology and racial integration.
The Antebellum (and Civil War) over slavery (and racism). This is when we got Southern Baptists and the Black Church.
And the turn of the 20th century, in the liberal/fundamentalist split.

Liberals in 1861:
OFF THE DOGE!
Time to pick up a gun
OFF THE DOGE!
Just like the Constitution learned from the Articles of Confederation we’ll learn from this.
And now they have awoken the giant and shall learn the *why* the wardens were kindly.
Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Federalist Society?

Because this is how you radicalize the liberals.
"Antifa" as a domestic terrorist organization didn't exist. Trump invented it. He's going to label the lot of us as terrorists.
And some of us might prove him right.
I had a similar thought earlier today: if one side has allowed itself to use political violence, the other side now has an incentive to play the same strategy – ie, to also use political violence
Dems. Have. No. Appetite. For. Strength.

Granted, they don’t stockpile them like some people. But having many doesn’t mean you know how to use them or have them all at your disposal.
(Been on my to do list but finally decided it’s in my national Defense obligations as a citizen to learn and own)
I would own one myself, but sometimes I go down deep dark depression holes, and it’s not a good thing to have around when I am in that state.
I have no plans to keep ammunition in the home.
Safe storage is something I take very very seriously.
Now I think it’s time to break the billionaire class
For any of this to be viable people need to consume less, but that goes against the entire ethos of this country.
Beyond that, they don’t respect socialists aesthetically. Y’all have to look hotter to win.
but actually it’s about expanding the idea of what is economic success: I think most people would want a future where their basic needs are taken care of

judicial nominations must receive an up or down Senate vote within 60 days
What else do you have in mind?
He’d have total immunity, per John Roberts. Issue pardons to the relevant FBI agents or Navy Seals getting their hands dirty.
We should massively expand and restructure the court. Promote every Court of Appeals Judge to Justice. SCOTUS cases are heard by 1 random Justice from each circuit, totaling to 13 Justices.
What comes after the malignant, chaotic conservatism of the Trump era will be FAR more intense.
We aren't engaging with them in good faith anymore, and when we get power, we will squeeze their interests as hard as possible.
Like taxing Musk into poverty.
“So it looks like I’m getting primaried by…uh, John Brown? Wait, is that right? The John Brown?”
