Weird, we're seeing exactly the same thing happening over here in the UK with our NHS.... It's almost as if they're reading from a script or something....
To be fair, this is also the Democratic plan since Clinton. "Ending welfare as we know it" doesn't have the same poetic license as "make the pie higher," but they're both basically the same thing: a complete rejection of the preamble to the Constitution's reason for why we have a government at all.
Paraphrasing Lance Manion: imagine government as a car that everybody needs to get to work. Republicans grind the gears, drive it into a ditch, and put sand in the gas tank. When the tow truck comes they say this proves people shouldn't drive. And they do this so they won't have to chip in for gas.
See and I threaten to nationalize even once and everyone loses their damn minds!! Nationalize some industries already if the government doesn’t make money? Right? Right?!
Imagine owning a house that needs upkeep and repairs. However you have a roommate that constantly destroys and neglects it, refusing to put money towards it. They then point to the new damage as reason why they should sell it to a landlord and just rent from him instead. That’s where we’re at.
The Royal Mail in Britain was sold off yesterday to a non-British billionaire. No doubt the convicted felon and his cronies see this as a great model for USPS.
The reason the postal system worked is because it in and of it self wasn't profitable, but it led to expansion of the growth of enterprise through sales in a larger market...
Ex. The JC Penny catalog and Sear catalogs.
Therefore paying for it's losses through gained revenue.
So a privatized postal service, with no competition, will charge... what? $2.75 to deliver a letter? More? Well, at least it would be an end to junk mail.
Because Biden can’t fire him directly. The Board of Governor oversees the postmaster position and the board of governors have 9 year terms. The board of governors are appointed by Presidents, but rules require that the board must be 4/5 split. Biden had to appoint a Republican Governor by law.
NP. I had wondered the same thing in 2020 so looked it up. It's really a shame that all our checks and balances have gaping holes where clowns can still remain in charge and destroy (or on the flip side rebel against stupid). Not sure how DeJoy wasn't fired during the last 4 years though . . .
The USPS is coded in the US Constitution. Trump would need a Constitutional amendment to privatize it. That would require a 2/3rds vote from Congress. Not gonna happen.
He was able to bypass the 14th to get on the ballots...then he was able to bypass voting by using starlink to manipulate a win. Hashtag USAisOverParty? /s
You know what? When you choose a 74 yr old white man over AOC then it may as well all burn down cuz theyre all out of touch with america. Im not racist but its a new world out here thats just being run by old white men. No one can relate
They sold off NASA&grounded the Publics interest in space exploration&then privatized future growth, putting space exploration into the hands of Musk using Public $'s hidings all findings behind an NDA keeping us deaf&dumb&don't forget the Texas Supercollider that was killed by the GOP in the 70's
Trump and his capos always tell us the bad shit they are going to do even if it's accusing others of doing it (projection). Americans just aren't listening.
It's called 'starve the beast' - common conservative tactic the world over. Happening right now in my province - purposely underfund health care so they can justify selling peices of it off to his billionaire buddies.
Not sure if they can due that without an Amendment to the Constitution. Congress passed the Post Office Act of 1792, which made the Postal Service a permanent part of the federal government. Not sure how a private company could be considered a part of the Federal Government, though I could be wrong.
the funny thing is the GOP says it wants the US to be rich again but never have an idea for an income...selling off businesses won't bring a consistent income
We were told privatizing utilities would make them better and cheaper here. Neither happened. When the state gov sent out messages telling us to watch our power usage, we were mocked on twitter because “socialism”. Mostly by people in states with public utilities. 🙄 Derp.
Utilities didn’t get cheaper or better when they were privatized, and have clearly only gotten worse over the years, including starting fires because they didn’t want to spend to upgrade infrastructure.
It actually might be difficult because it is not clear how you evaluate "did not get cheaper or better". Sometimes it might be better if it is more expensive if it is an actual market price. Gov healthcare being 0 does not actually cost 0.
Also worth noting that just privatizing might not be enough. What you need is a free market so people can compete and offer better products. If you just give a license to some private company, do not expect much improvements.
Right-wing politician is the only job interview in the world where you can proudly declare "This place sucks, if you hire me I'm gonna prove how much it sucks by sabotaging it 8 ways from Sunday", and the response is an emphatic "You're hired".
So, ok Mr Pinocchio, who will it be, ya know, the high bidder you've sought, selected&sanctioned to $buy the postal service from YOU? Will it be Bezos,Darrell "DEI" Issa, Fed Ex, UPS, Guccifer3.0 or, the Guy who assisted YOU in the theft of "TWO(2)" Elections aka, Louis DeBallot...inquiring minds???
Privatization of the postal service will affect people that vote Republican the most. Places in rural parts of the United States will get mail deliveries once or twice a month, local post offices will be closed, and thousands of rural jobs will be lost.
Republicans don't even deny that this is their playbook. First they will deflect by saying "look at what Dems do", then if that doesn't work they just try to ignore you. Then when you press them further they try to convince you that they're doing "the right thing" and that it is "ordained by God."
Also, the postal service isn’t designed to be a solvent business. It’s an important service funded in part with tax money, which allows the service to be artificially cheap and serve everyone. Privatizing it will raise prices and cause service gaps.
Exactly. Also, invent a problem/scapegoat something like immigration and then do nothing about it or make it worse so you can keep running on it and keep blaming the dems for it.
This privatize everything is a true form of evil. Fight it.
Make the richer - bow down to him make him feel like a King - grovel for it - it’s insanity - we must READ - Listen beyond listening - research -he has people doing that FOR him and he simply speaks the words- the beginning dies not always dictate the ending
They are deliberately sabotaging the postal service. It has become nearly impossible to mail a letter anywhere near where I live because they have removed all mailboxes and have even locked up the mailboxes outside the post offices. You must go inside, wait in line to mail a stinking letter. Crazy.
I'll never forget the guy in my local town, who had an office in the tax-funded business incubator, complaining about the single mom's food stamps. His "business" was basically a place to get away from his wife.
It doesn't seem to matter to them one bit if something is covered by the constitution, which the Post Office is. They have no intention of following that pesky set of laws anyway.
They (the CONServatives as we call them here) are doing the same thing. It's outrageous and disgusting ...about how I feel about people who vote for them!
This is exactly what they did in Florida. I now work as a call center operator for the state, trying desperately to make excuses for that tattered system to the very people who VOTED FOR THE GOVERNORS THAT PROMISED TO BREAK IT!!
Repuklican scum have been doing it for many years. And most often THEY are the ones who own the companies! Simple example: The privatization of domain name registration. I got mine before then by calling a government office, no charge. Now it's a multi-million dollar RIP-OFF business.
Britain's been doing is since thatcher, just take everything state owned then sell it off and see how everything becomes ridiculously expensive, infrastructure breaks down, industry ships off to cheaper climbs, and the nation flops on its' face...
The Canadian federal government tried that some years ago. The same government just imposed a contract on Canada Post workers, many of them part-time or on call.
The US will undoubtedly find itself in the same situation.
It is, however, the postal service is the only Government Organization that's literally written into the constitution. Attempting to privatize it would be an attack on the constitution, and an act of sedition.
Take a look at the Royal Mail/Post Office in the UK after privatisation. It's expensive and the service is awful not to mention the scandal. Privatisation only benefits the wealthy.
Postal Service: oh you want your mail delivered every day? Oo ooo ooo that's, that's a pretty penny sir/ma'am. We can do once every two weeks for $99.99/month. Undamaged/Unopened mail will be $149.99/month.
Profits move from the buisness to private equity. Standards go down. With monopolies that have no alternative supplier we lose control over them and any profits. Not great is it?
The takeaway that's somewhat encouraging - trump is "looking" at it. When he's said that previously, it's just lip service, more like "thanks little boy, we heard you, now go away". He usually doesn't do shit about whatever issue he is "looking at".
Meanwhile the democratic playbook is to fix it JUST ENOUGH that the youth think it’s changing while it actually continues to get worse for us and better for the old and wealthy.
The right wing did this to us here in the UK. Royal Mail was sold off for less than it was worth to a Tory donor. Prices then went up and quality of service went down.
Which just proves that Labour aren't as left wing as they claim to be. It's bad enough that it was privatised, selling it on again to a foreign company is just taking the piss.
The GQP breaking & then privatizing the USPS has been in the works since Reagan. And Trump’s postmaster general was the proverbial nail in the coffin. He’s already outsourced a lot of the shipping between hubs to the company he formerly ran.
The USPS is in the constitution and has an independent board, and will require a constitutional convention to make any changes. Good luck getting the majority of Congress and the States to comply #Dotard. Ben Franklin is rolling in his grave. 😞
It worked for the UK. We now have the most expensive privatised postage, trains, and utilities in Europe. Our rivers and seas are full of 💩 and our beloved NHS is slowly being farmed out to big pharma. Less reliable, more expensive for consumer BUT someone, somewhere makes a buck 🤑
No, it's not. Because the postal service is enshrined in our Constitution, it will take an amendment with 2/3 of the states ratifying it to privatize the post office.
You know how congress forced post office to fund retirements 25 years in advance? That $$ is sitting their ready to be taken by whomever privatized the post office... it is always about the $$$
The post office is explicitly in the US constitution as a service the government provides. Want to know what isn't? Any branch of the military that isn't the US Navy.
It seems that a lot of that already happened during this past election. The difference is that it will be sanctioned from the top down rather than individual carriers doing it either on their own or for hire. Meaning it will definitely be more widespread.
Just because Reagan's "Grace Commission" didn't actually privatize hundreds of federal agencies doesn't mean that it's not happening at the state and local levels constantly. Privatized government services are inevitably more costly and lead to worse outcomes.
So another line of attack to control & reduce the affordability & access to every national communication & information system. Uh, yup, that's how it works.
So they'll have the internet, which is also all e-comms (mobile, text, email, socials) at this point, the media, and control of hardcopy comms. That it?
Well, that is how democracy in Russia worked too before Putin stopped that nonsense. Let’s hope the 🍊 💩 will also stop democracy is the US as it does not serve any purpose anymore.
The UK has been through that pain already George. Privatised Utilities, water, rail, bus, postal service and some health care. It's a pain being slowly undone with the nationalisation (partly) of rail. sadly all expensive!

Corruption is, as corruption does. To paraphrase Forrest Gump.
It's all bills and junk mail, so... No.
Ex. The JC Penny catalog and Sear catalogs.
Therefore paying for it's losses through gained revenue.
Food for Thought.
Why didn’t Biden get him out?
(Need Latin to make this motto spell out GOP)
This isn’t that difficult.
Making services better sometimes takes time.
It’s the textbook definition of malignant Capitalism.
Then it was privatised and quickly became terrible.
Good luck then.

I think you're playing it wrong.
This privatize everything is a true form of evil. Fight it.
Of course, the new, private owner would never touch that money......
I can tell you they will be the first ones screwed by this.
It's just not profitable to go out to the middle of nowhere EVERY month.
FedEx? Amazon?
The US will undoubtedly find itself in the same situation.

Self-centered, Self-fulfilling prophesy much?
They are promoting the view that there should be ONE tax rate for the rich and poor.
That increases the tax debt of the lowest earners and reduces the tax burden on the wealthiest in society.
Coming to a NAT-C think tank near you
(E.g. the National Workshops in France, 1848)
have put a pill in his head, is proof of their treason.
It happened with Stephen Harper and it's the plan with Poilievre now too.
And he fucked up the USPS.
Oh, yeah...and he was the founder and CEO of a shipping company. So, of course.
