Onshore wind is very promising, there are some grid improvements/storage issues that need to be addressed. WY alone could produce 25% of US energy needs (some est. up to 50%) Wind also requires skilled/semi-skilled labor to maintain, so there is room for some large scale domestic job growth.

offshore wind makes no economic sense without government subsidies. It’s too expensive to deploy and maintain. You may need it because of climate related factors but end-user power costs will be high.

That makes sense to me. Salt spray and high humidity were shown (in 2019 https://www.mdpi.com/1996-1073/12/4/593) to be a large failure mode of offshore wind. Not sure how much has improved since then. Luckily onshore wind doesn’t suffer from the same difficulties and has lower capital costs than coal to boot.

My wife and I were in the business for a while - the environmental side. The biggest drawback to wind is space availability. That isn't an issue in S Texas, as any farm or ranch less that 10 K acres is a hobby farm.
