1000 kitchens in Sudan closed by the USAID closures. Staggering to think of.

I love having to root for the America that I know as a neoliberal market-driven hell hole over the America that I know as a fascist militaristic ethnostate.

We're about to wrap up Month 3 of @popheist.com and I'm really proud of where we're at, the voices we've amplified, and what's to come — especially considering that, uh, the staff is tiny and the budget is tinier.

my superpower for predicting things? paying attention to what people with power say and do

i am really, really going to enjoy getting to see Elon Musk learn for the first time in his entire life that capital needs labor, labor does not need capital. he is convinced every worker in the government, if not the entire united states, needs their job more than their job needs them

i keep reading posts from people getting laid off in genuinely every possible tech industry you can imagine and it's so fucking insane that the thing people have to worry about isn't "can an AI do my job" but "can a very stupid person convince my boss that an AI can do my job"

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.

Ursula le Guin, on the accusation that fantasy is an escape from reality

I'm sure very few people know about this. Inmates in 43 states are charged a per diem cost for "room and board" ranging between $40 to hundreds of dollars. In some states you owe for every day of your original sentence EVEN IF YOU GET OUT EARLY. www.welcometohellworld.com/there-is-no-...

How to change a swastika that cant be removed

Condé Nast management will start requiring employees to be in the office 4 days a week on 3/3, allegedly to make us more productive. Yet for months, many of us have gone without desks, often being forced to work from the cafeteria, HR floor or hallways.

This is how to be an ally to the trans community. Also, this isn't just an ex NFL player, he's the first punter ever inducted into the hall of fame.

It would really help if the cisses spoke up for us! If nothing else, it helps with court challenges.

I've noted some of the procedural things Democrats could be doing in Congress, but this point from @edgeofsports.bsky.social's great piece in the Nation deserves emphasis. This is basic politics, and it's baffling that every Democrat isn't doing it every day. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

gonna again cordially invited everyone to support independent, worker run, local newsrooms

I guess if you're already peddling made-up shit and hate speech mixed in with some actual facts and analysis, AI doesn't seem like a real threat to your business model.

"The richest man alive, an actual Nazi and a fucking sicko, who was not elected, is firing tens of thousands of people to further enrich himself and the president he has usurped all to make Americans' lives worse" has to be among the biggest layups of all time for messaging. And yet.

It's not just Stonewall, it's all over NPS.gov - They're erasing Trans people from history. Those photos of Nazis burning books in 1933? Those were books on gender and sexuality. This is a 21st century book burning in the public square. It's Memoricide - a speedbump on the road to Genocide.

I am excited ! and honoured ! that my manuscript CUT FROM has been longlisted for this year’s prize 🖤❄️📓

I think every designer should write a love letter to a font at least once in their lifetime. This is mine: A 150-year-old font you have likely never heard of, and one you probably saw earlier today. aresluna.org/the-hardest-...

the federal government is explicitly acting as if jim crow is the law!

This is how white supremacy works. The parade is to honor the birthday of an historic Marylander. What if the parade were for Samuel Chase or Francis Scott Key? It would be fine. Douglass is defined by the feds only by his Blackness. But they’ll deny it.

This is one of the funniest videos I've ever seen in my life

this is straight up McCarthyism

I just saw “cognitive dissidents” used for “cognitive dissonance” and now I have a new way to talk about all my friends

British actress Tilda Swinton spoke at the Berlin Film Festival, condemning “state-perpetrated and internationally enabled mass murder.”

Good morning to this man, and this man only #bbcqt

We're pleased to announce that we've reached an agreement with @theintercept.com over a member's grievance re: articles debunking an NYT Oct 7 expose. This wouldn't have been possible w/o the foundational work of The Intercept & NWU freelancers back in 2019. buff.ly/3Qh1fub

The National Park Service eliminated references to transgender people from its Stonewall National Monument web page, removing the “T” in references to LGBTQ+ on the official site for the Greenwich Village monument, which marks a milestone in the fight for gay rights.

A lot of changes have happened in immigration policy really quickly, but you still have constitutional rights regardless of your citizenship. I spoke to immigration lawyers and advocates about how DC residents can protect themselves, and each other, from ICE. @51st.news 51st.news/how-to-defen...

This is a great thread about some of the daily tasks of union organizing. It applies to rank and file member organizers (like me, as a member of @natvpu.bsky.social and @thenwu.bsky.social), and staff organizers (also like me, in my day job with the @afscme.bsky.social local I used to belong to).

Morning newspapers. Hourly radio updates. Newsreels before movies. Evening news broadcasts. We used to engage substantively with the function of the world regularly, and now people only do so when they want to, on the terms they want to. Of course they don’t know what they’re losing.

I'm with Kelly here: deeply interested in leftism as a political project but have no interest whatsoever in leftism as a subculture. the stakes of leaving this behind are hopefully clearer by the day

solidarity with co-workers brings me joy www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with...

Klaxon klaxon klaxon! Collective action gets it done. Congratulations New York Mag and Vox workers!!

The CFPB union has just sued Russell Vought over shuttering the agency

Workers in strong union states made nearly $173 MORE PER WEEK in 2024—regardless of whether they were in a union. UNIONS RAISE WAGES FOR ALL WORKERS. THAT'S WHY CEOs DON'T LIKE THEM.

Contrary to popular belief, Democrats aren't powerless right now. There are parliamentary guerrilla tactics that Senate Democrats can use to slow, stall, and obstruct MAGA at every turn: indivisible.org/reso...
