“Instead of taking a wait-and-see approach, those in higher ed need to stand up for themselves as a united front and make the case that an attack on one is an attack on all.”

“Once the executive branch decides it doesn’t have to follow the law for one person, it has established that it doesn’t have to follow the law for anyone,” @dgraham.bsky.social writes in The Atlantic Daily: theatln.tc/A5gl8xWw

Just so that we’re all clear what’s happening here: The United States is deporting people without due process, sending them to labor camps in El Salvador, and paying the Salvadoran government for it.

A kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University’s medical school has been deported from the U.S., even though she had a valid visa and a court order temporarily blocking her expulsion, according to her lawyer and court papers.

"dei medal" you might as well just put "n*gger medal" because that's what they mean to say

This power grab is unprecedented, unbounded, and unconstitutional.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

Everyone - CALL YOUR SENATORS

Bomb sniffing K-9s become latest DOGE victims – hours after Trump shared 2019 pic with hero dog

Even if you think your senator is already voicing your opinion, call them. Call them. Call them. If you’re “not political”, call them. If you have done nothing else to support your community, do this!! This is something! Your opinion matters and this app helps!

These are your words of the week democracy habeas corpus allision sovereignty empathy tovarich crocus www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/the...

the primary divide in the Democratic Party right now is not left vs. right it’s fighters vs. cowards. that’s why even former republicans like kinzinger who are centrists on policy are absolutely furious at Schumer

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Dems leadership needs to go. This is not like a Reagan tax cut. This is not the past. This is an existential moment. And yet…they do nothing but compromise Dem values and priorities. I was a precinct captain for Obama in ‘08 @schumer.senate.gov just sold out everything we fought for. SHAME.

NEW letter to Columbia from Trump admin lists demands for “continued financial relationship” with the US government”: —Suspend or expel students for Hamilton Hall protest —“Time, place, and manner rules” —Mask ban —Address “anti-Zionist” discrimination —Reform admissions —MORE

One of these things is not like the others

The largest private employer in Baltimore just lost $800 million in federal contracts and grants. This recession is going to be a doozy.

By voting for the CR, Rep Jared Golden just gave the GOP a talking point of “bipartisan bill” and he also just voted to give up all leverage in pushing back against the administration. The spending power is congress’ only power. While i usually applaud bipartisanship, this is a travesty

This is a blatant attempt by anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist RFKjr to censor science by our leading cancer researchers #StandUpForScience #YourVoiceIsYourPower #DemVoice1 #ProudBlue www.propublica.org/article/nati...

There were howls of protest and denial from the GOP any time we pointed out that Republicans want to cut Social Security. Now the most powerful official in the White House goes on TV and calls it "the big one to eliminate."

👏 Every supporter of the rule of law should be fighting. So glad Perkins Coie is fighting.

"Neville Chamberlain believed that Hitler wouldn’t violate the Munich deal because Hitler respected him. Trump shares that delusion about Putin. We may all pay the price." www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

Historian here: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” ― Theodore Roosevelt

Any country that isn't making plans to rapidly ditch Starlink is making a big mistake

Repeat it like a mantra: Every single day, you, yes you, are braver than the most powerful and protected people in the country. Ask yourself which side is stronger

To be clear: a tariff is a tax.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Might save a life.

We've confirmed the US Bureau of Prisons has transferred trans women to men's prisons despite three court rulings blocking Trump's executive order “I’m continuing to be punished for existing. I'm a pawn in others' political games" -Whitney, 31-year-old woman taken to men's prison this week, told us

I’ve heard from a solid source that medical supplies from US to frontline medics in Ukraine are being withheld through USAID and military logistics. If true this is absolutely unacceptable.

Again, this is literally the kind of moment that you put life tenure in your constitution for

Monday - Roll back tariffs Tuesday - Reinstate tariffs Wednesday - Roll back tariffs Thursday - Reinstate tariffs Friday - Roll back tariffs Saturday - Golf Sunday - Golf

Polish Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Wałęsa and 38 other former political prisoners of Poland's communist regime have condemned Donald Trump's treatment of Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, which they said reminded them of communist interrogation techniques

We need to talk about Trump’s threat to defund universities unless they arrest and expel protesters. We’re watching classic fascistic institutional capture in real time and if this continues unabated we’re going to look up and live in a world without escape. The time to fight is now.

This is not law. It couldn’t withstand legal scrutiny. Don’t comply in advance university presidents. General counsel, don’t panic. Do law, not vibes.

Unconstitutional. Appropriations bills are laws. If the president is not bound by them, he can make laws by fiat and is acting like a dictator. No Democrat can vote for any appropriations or debt ceiling bill while this is happening.

"No Other Land," the Palestinian-Israeli made film showing the destruction of the occupied West Bank's Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers, just won the Oscar for Best Documentary. It can't get a distributor in the US. Which tells you everything about censorship in the US.

This is the second time USAID/State is punishing people revealing the truth that Marco is killing children. They're quite desperate to hide this fact, as if the reporters in Africa or court declarations are making it up.

Extraordinary quote from the German president about Trump/Vance's ambush of Zelensky: "I would never have believed that we would ever have to defend Ukraine from the United States.” www.nytimes.com/2025/03/01/w...

“We’re witnessing the self-sabotage of the United States.”

I think we’re all fucked. I hope future archaeologists don’t look too unkindly on us. I think we have some legitimately impressive accomplishments.

“Friday, February 28, 2025, will go into the history books as one of the grimmest days in American diplomacy,” writes @radiofreetom.bsky.social. Now “Putin, along with other dictators around the world, can finally look at Trump with confidence and think: one of us”: theatln.tc/FHJeRVAj
