Arteta played 2 years with Alexis. I think this counts as Arteta's fault too. We need an independent investigation. www.rotowire.com/soccer/headl...

If Ornstein wants to be a real media guy, he needs to really understand football as well as a Spanish journo or anon X account. I still see so much naivety in his transfer pieces, a consistent incapacity to imagine player destinations beyond what reputable sources are saying.

um, billy, why is the card moist?
comment in response to post
doesn't seem like Teta would go for Eze/Ode type defending in the midfield block. And if he would, don't we have Ode/Nwaneri already there for free?
comment in response to post
wow I knew he was strong in disputes but winning them with a manager is a whole nother level.
comment in response to post
Can he #fix Darwin too? Darwin + Nkunku cut-reate summer signings. Imagine the reaction

at this rate his best young players will leave for Real Madrid.

... like, look at who gets the most hate - Zinny and Cala (offensively ++ defenders), Jesus and Kai (defensively/creatively ++ forwards). Ironically if you took the exact players/skillsets of Merino and Cala and swapped positions, I bet they would be loved.
comment in response to post
It seems like people pigeonhole positional skillsets (defenders tackle, midfielders pass/carry, wingers dribble, strikers shoot). And Arsenal, whether by design or b/c of valuation, sign players with diverse skillsets can appear bad at their positions "specific" skill...

the stats flatter Ø and Trossard b/c the model doesn't know what to do with Ø's lil dink chip to Trossard. Subjectively seems like a ridiculously hard shot to come off, xG has it at like 1/3 g I think.

how dare you slander Brennan like that !

"We need a leader with a proven track record and big-time experience"... same people: "WHY HASN'T THIS 17 YEAR REPLACED OUR CAPTAIN YET?"
comment in response to post
"We need a manager with a proven track record and experience at the top level." - same people in 2019 probably

Salah looks tired. Can't believe their manager doesn't rotate him more.

Odds of Beckham-like transition from football player to underwear model and celebrity?
comment in response to post
Yeah I noticed Chelsea's team culture fell off after Gallagher left, and Sociedad's defense collapsed without le Normand. Must have taken a True Visionary sporting director to identify and sign away those talents. Right? RIGHT?

more goals rest of season: Arsenal or Mika?
comment in response to post
Adingra - Rutter - Gruda is actually kinda not bad

lol oops... 28 league minutes!

Chiesa?

Fair. But I see we went from "Myles" to a "teenage LB" - you've been learning from Arsenal twitter! (I kid, I kid)
comment in response to post
yeah I think we probably just disagree on how bad Partey looked there, but even if they were equal, Timber at RB and Kiwior able to hold LB width would provide much better attacking dynamics. And I support the plan to slowly integrate Myles, but everyone has a plan until you have 5 FBs hurt...
comment in response to post
Maybe for a few games, but that combo just hurt team's dynamics so much that I think Arteta deserves blame for not pivoting earlier. If not MLS, then Kiwior.
comment in response to post
to be fair, Timber LB, Partey RB was as much choice as knock-on, and probably one Arteta got very wrong. MLS and Kiwior were available, and the fullback pairing Mikel chose didn't work at all.
comment in response to post
(From my limited knowledge) Nypan offers more playmaking and dribbling, but is still profiles as a tall, duelly, carry-first/off ball 8, no? Not the extreme of Kai/Merino, but is still that profile with added playmaking?
comment in response to post
you're hurt too?!
comment in response to post
wow why won't Mikel trust the youth? Ethan could follow this path if we don't get *at least* one moderate hamstring strain out of him in the next two years.
comment in response to post
tbf Cala is almost more of a "goals from non-strikers" signing than a "prevent defensive lapses" signing

have you watched enough Assane Diao to have Thoughts and Opinions?

Jeremie Frimpong for £500k. Nmecha and Aleix and Eric Garcia for free. 4 UCL rotation level players for 3 mil, and Arsenal fans are mad that guys barely playing in the Championship were denied a pathway.
comment in response to post
Imagine Arsenal fans if we had sold/lost (checks notes): Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Aleix Garcia, Morgan Rogers, Tosin, Jeremie Frimpong, Felix Nmecha and Douglas Luiz.
comment in response to post
feels much harder compared to the NBA since shots and rebounds come in much, much faster, and the boxing out r/r is really skewed inside your own penalty box.

Normal lineup: 0-0 / 90 mins Billy's lineup: 8.4-0 / 90 min
comment in response to post
I do think Arteta has actually done an amazing job of balancing the intensity of the press in game and seasonally to maximize effectiveness while limiting intensity to high leverage situations
comment in response to post
the escalating spiral of Arsenal fan's saltiness increasing Adam's saltiness towards Arsenal fans is the highlight of this clusterf season so far

the specific of Saka's case being super rough timelines from Arteta and reporters going back and forth on "sources say early March" "no late March" "no April"?
comment in response to post
yes if you remove specific contexts and generalize much more broadly, then yes the situation definitely changes! hamstring injuries have one of the highest reinjury rates and widest ranges in recovery timelines.
comment in response to post
assuming uncertainty and setback potential regarding timelines on return from muscular surgeries is not unreasonable lol
comment in response to post
assuming no other injuries rest of season and the most optimistic return timeline for Saka
comment in response to post
Felt like (and feels moreso with hindsight) that Asensio was the realistic move - attainable, cheaper (no loan fee), immediate depth (F9, 10, RW), knock on effects (Ethan + Trossard, Gabi focus on LW/RW, less 9/10 gaps). Honestly that's the one specific move that feels frustrating to have passed on.
comment in response to post
LMAO! You persistently argue against these fan narratives from Arsenal then cite them for Madrid! Direct quotes from the article: "Many feel that the coach failed to provide the necessary rest for the German" and "many questioning why he does not give younger players a chance". Ancelotti or Teta??
comment in response to post
Tchouameni? Last two seasons he's been CB in 28/64 games and is a beast there. Seems a feature, not a bug. Is Declan out of position as a 6 or as an 8?
comment in response to post
4-2-1-3 with the front 4 real floaty seems like their typical big game line up? OOP 442 not uncommon, seems more tactical than injury forced.
comment in response to post
... and Madrid played their standard formation with one player out of position despite 5 defenders out...
comment in response to post
Ceballos/Modric playing natural positions vs. Jorginho #10, yes. 1 extra body or am I mathing wrong?... Also tbh I'd actually love to see the Nwaneri false 9 with Merino SS/10 experiment.

In their defensive leading to two midfield starters playing there?
