Maybe instead of fifty-five thousand remakes of already great films we could - and stick with me here - adapt books that haven’t been given an adaptation before. Or write ✨ new ✨ characters and new stories. Imagine that.

We don't think it's gross! We don't want less relevant models to study wound healing! We're launching a new field of Menstruation Science at MIT! I hope you join us for the launch on April 9 in person and online! cgr.mit.edu/2025/03/17/s...

“We’re Americans”

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

Great thread on egg price gouging!

First video is up! Deporting farm workers means Americans will have to step up & do the job. As an ex farm worker, I'm reaching across the aisle to give my fellow Americans handy tips for their new career- because I know they're ready for this! ❤️ 🧑‍🌾 🦅 www.instagram.com/p/DFs8WmhNvfg/

Not everyone processes words the same way. Audiobooks make books accessible. That’s a win, not a loophole. 📖 #BookSky

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

@jane-lindamood.bsky.social I agree: fascinating!

wanna do a poll but there's no poll here, so i'll make one like this: question: do you always read the entirety of a news article or just the headlines/excerpts other people post? like: entirety share: headlines/excerpts

😂

Genuinely curious what recommendations you all have for shows that either have been around for a while that may have been missed and underrated or any new series or short series. Just watched The Perfect Couple and Nobody Wants This and a few too many horrors. What are some good holiday binges?!

It's Friday. Don't overthink it.

I just found out that around 20% of the neanderthal genome still exists today in living people!! No individual person has more than 3 or 4% but we don't all have the same bits. If you add up all the bits we've found, about a fifth of the Neanderthal genome is still present on earth today.

@kdhuck.bsky.social, maybe I need this n my bulletin board so I can remember to be nicer?

Just a reminder that there’s an app available for your TV called PBS RETRO where you can watch all sorts of wonderful old pbs shows like Mr. Rogers and Reading Rainbow, you know, in case you might need that sort of energy right now

If you don’t want to read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein together by the fireplace whilst sharing a vintage bottle of Sauvignon Blanc in an abandoned château in the French countryside during a raging snowstorm, then please don’t tell me you’re “down for a good time”.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing. They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays. The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k. www.businessinsider.com/denver-basic...

When your relatives start arguing at Thanksgiving, calmly grab your favorite serving bowl of food like you're going to the kitchen to refill it, and just don't come back. Quietly escape with your favorite food. This has been survival tips with Jen.

There are four styles of classroom management, based off of Baumrind (1966): - Authoritarian - Permissive - Neglectful - Authoritative There is one of these we want to aim for. Do you know which? 🧵

I’ve mentioned this before, but if you’re short on cash but have an urge to shop, go to your library digital apps and browse the books, audiobooks, movies, shoes, magazines. It works really well to give you the same feeling without spending the cash. (Plus you’re supporting public libraries.) 💙📚

My new book, Everything Is Tuberculosis, explores the history of our deadliest infectious disease. It's also about our horrifying present: TB still kills kills over a million people per year, even though it's been curable since the 1950s. Signed copies can be ordered at everythingistb.com

when you’re in grade school you learn about the war of 1812 as a kind of curiosity but i’ve read a few books this year where it has come up and to me, it seems like the first episode of “america fucks around and finds out with an ill-conceived war”

I don't know who needs to hear this, everyone I think, but if you send a PDF to your kindle and put 'convert' as the subject it will change it to epub format for you, you're welcome (I posted this on the other place and was surprised by how many people it helped so thought I'd do it here too.)

My dad died 16 years ago today. It’s why every year, we open the scholarship applications up for The Perry Second Chances Scholarship on this day. Everything I do is for women & girls. But everything that I am is b/c my daddy took in a stranger’s child 31 years ago & loved me w/ all his big heart
