Fam, I'm not sure if I have what it takes to work for other people again. I officially start my new job on Monday and I'm already realizing how feral I've gone - I'm chafing like I'm being forced to wear a scratchy dress and sit through a religious service.

Mention to people you will be working with that you've been "outside of a formal work culture for a few years and will need to reacclimate."
Clerk: "How many crossbows do you want?"
Me: "How many do you got?"
As soon as I get my feet, I'll make changes, but, man this is weird.

Wear comfortable shoes
It's still better than relying 100% on freelancing.
And you don't *have* to wear a scratchy dress, or even stay on the pews! You can stand in the back with pockets!
I feel you

It was SHOCKING how quickly I fit back into the skin.
YMMV, but drink some water and give yourself grace.
Yeah. In a zoomed-out-camera way, no job is ever "secure," per se (it can all go away when you need it most, companies are not "loyal" to loyal employees. etc) but operationally, to know that for the next 2 years at least, you've got steady & reliable income & structure is a comfort.
*I’m lying. Do it anyway.
I remember going through this exact thing back in about '98, & goddamn it sucked.
take care of yourself so your batteries are fully charged come working hours
(re)learn some soft skills and remember that the workplace is a big play and sometimes we gotta play our role, smile and wave
you got this!!
Hang in there, get some good sleep over the weekend, and hit the ground running. 💜
Like furries, but with feathers.
And maybe put random shiny things on everyone’s desks for Monday?
The crows will (still) love you, and will flock to your door when you get home 🙂
PS - crows are good judges of character, if you can interact with them, you can handle people. 🙂
So excited for you!
*Congratulations, they are lucky to get you.
This takes a type of vision that mere employees seldom develop, but freelancers are pretty sharp about
One day at a time. Take breaks. You've got this.

**there is no such thing as talking too much to crows**
you got it!
you’ll do fine
I bet it will be slightly terrifying at first but then gradually fine and normal. Just try to ride that first part out as best you can. You can do it
…and I’m stuck being me
I'd wish you luck, but you don't need it. Go forth and enjoy the days
i hate working for other people so i get it.
