Governor Tim Walz says when Democrats are back in power, people are "not going to expect us to tinker around the edge with the ACA; they're going to expect universal healthcare."

im not a journalist or an expert on ethics and best practices but i dont think theyre paying him for the tweet, its an affiliate link and says so in the url, isnt that kind of self explanatory?
1) there was no “genocide isn’t so bad” ticket, you were just plugging your ears, singing “la la la!” however;
2) the “genocide is great, gimme a slice of that sexy land” ticket somehow won!?!?!
Try and keep up
Genocide was going to continue regardless of a Democrat or Republican win because they're two sides to the same coin. Trump is just louder and less tactful than Democrats
I don’t know your life, but … has anything worked out in your favor by being snarky on social media? Do you keep that same energy IRL, or am I super special to deserve this blind, faithless whiplash?
My god. White woman. I’m openly queer and my partner is trans. Condescend more. It’s a great look for you people. Really wins us over. I have hardware in my arms you miserable fucking slug. How many bones have you broken? Fuck off.
Damn. You sure schooled me. I’m heartbroken. But thank jeebus the Palestinian people have now been saved & rehomed on their ancestral land because willy blindly posted memes on social media, attacking one random person without any power in America or abroad.
Assuming we make this far, one thing’s for DAMN sure: no candidate saying “we need a strong Republican party” and “I’ll put a Republican in my cabinet” is going to survive
Uh, Tim, the way things are going the Dems will never be back in power. The country as we have known it is over my dude. Has the opposition come back to power in Turkey, Russia, Hungary…? You really think MAGA secretaries of state will allow fair elections??!!
Ok but genuinely what’s stopping them from passing the “declare all democrats traitors to the country and send them to prison” act literally any day now? They have every opportunity to just never let anyone else have power ever again. We’re gonna be an autocracy for a real long time.
Universal healthcare, universal basic income, universal basic services, no more gerrymandering, proportional representation, multiwinner districts, ranked-choice voting, democracy vouchers, tax the rich. We need to take this country back from the billionaires sucking it dry.
Could've sworn there were at least 2 recent UBI studies that didn't show great results. I was actually shocked because some other studies have shown it having positive effects. That's why I asked. If I had the answers, I wouldn't ask
Many people agree with ALL those matters. But, in this catastrophic moment where the FOTUS is himself an existential threat to our democracy, we must segregate issues from democratic institutions. Currently, we must protect our institutions; otherwise, none of those issues will be approachable.
Could Tim Walz be the USA’s Tommy Douglas? (Look him up — the Canadian who brought universal healthcare to Canada, and to North America.) It took a lifetime of fighting — doctors and insurance corps especially hated the idea — but Douglas and the “socialist” party (CCF) won.
@kenklippenstein.bsky.social you’re not criticizing a good take are you? The only thing I would really criticize here is this idea that we can actually get power again, with the deck about to be stacked against us possibly for a generation or more.
And the Supreme Court, the banning of the MAGA fascist GOP for 80 years, the nullification of presidential immunity retroactively, and the arrest of hundreds of MAGA fascist Nazi GOP operatives in and out of the current regime, the arrest, imprisonment, and
Reminds me of Lucy waiving a ball of Single payer Medicare 4 All in front of Charlie Brown. They hope Charlie forgets that they don’t keep campaign promises, & aren’t stopping trump; having propped up trump in the first place while locking out the one candidate who would have delivered Single Payer
* UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE
* BASIC INCOME
* CODIFY ROE
* WORKERS RIGHTS VS AUTOMATION
* ELECTORAL COLLEGE REFORM
* TAX ASSETS AS REALIZED GAINS WHEN USED AS COLLATERAL
LIKE WE EXPECTED WITH OBAMA!!!!! THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ARE OWNED BY THE ROBBER BARONS!!! THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE. #FUCKTHEROBBERBARONS #KYLEKULINSKI
What ACA? They're going to gut it. I seriously doubt it will exist in anything close to present form within a year and all of the protections afforded under ACA will be gone.
Universal health care, transparent campaign finance reform, tax relief for the working class and increased taxes on billionaires and the right to unionize should be the message for 2028 #Prosperity2029
Everyone's (not everyone) pissed about Luigi. Fix the fucking system that allows to assholes to skate when they kill people by writing a check and maybe people won't fix it themselves
Even when that is so, the correct move is to do it anyway. Then, by the time a court might rule against it, there will be enough favorability in the population to make it stick electorally.
Brakes? The Senate? @schumer.senate.gov ? You think they care? Are doing literally anything?
@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social is on a book tour for #PersonalEnrichment.
#ThirdPartyNow
Joe Biden spent his entire Governing Window in 2021 begging 10 Republican Senators to vote for a right wing Infrastructure Law - instead of an actually adequate $4 trillion one which House Dems had written and Manchin had publicly supported in early 2021 - to claim he passed something "Bipartisan"
Biden got his wish! 10 Republican Senators voted for the -completely inadequate less than 1/5 as big version of the one house Dems had written - Infrastructure Law
and Biden spent the next 3 years bragging about "Bipartisanship"
his plan was that doing this would make him and Dems popular
Democrats and Obama were literally bragging about incorporating all of these awful Republican ideas into ACA; to this day they still claim that this made ACA a better law!
I can find you the link to a podcast of a former Obama Staffer from a couple of years ago - bragging about the years they spent incorporating Republican Senators' ideas into the ACA, saying how much worse the law would have been if Democrats and Obama had just passed it quickly
Then they should have fought for something much better with much more popular support behind it rather than relying on Republicans to not vote against their own healthcare plan, which is what the bulk of ACA was.
Barely passed Supreme Court review, barely dodged being overturned.
Also, please don’t conflate citing historical fact with a lack of desire for single payer; I just honesty don’t think it would have passed or survived.
You can “thank” Joe Lieberman for that one. Obama absolutely needed his support to get the ACA passed, but Lieberman was very insistent on getting rid of the public health insurance option
I dunno about that tbh. We couldn't even get the public option back then because of the dipshit from my state - Lieberman.
They 100% could have tried to codify Roe at least though w/ that supermajority, which Obama did promise us... at a Planned Parenthood location non-the-less 😔
It was the Democrats under Obama that gave us the ACA! Trump has already hinted at his goal to cancel any further elections and make himself the permanent president.
It's delusional to think that Democrats will do anything different if they do get elected again!
GOP does more with a slim majority than dems do with a super-majority. I'm going to expect more than one good big bill with some occasional tossing out of an EO as dems always do. I'll be expecting a rapid fire of great bills and EO's not pre-screened by corporate america for their approval.
If the Democrats want to win lasting power they need to make lasting changes to the state. They need to do so without the permission of the Republicans
- affordable healthcare
- common sense immigration
- money out of politics / no stock trading
- reinforcing checks and balances
- no more Citizens United/ dark money in election
- fair taxation policy
before that, this whole thing has to FAIL. Stop trying to save people from themselves. Of course protest and do not obey in advance but also, do NOT fundametally get in way of an enemy that is making mistakes.
"when the Democrats are back in power" very imaginatively presupposes that the Democrats have the capacity to regain power their way out of a wet paper bag
We will not get the opportunity to vote, and if we do, it will absolutely be rigged. A country of free and fair elections means a potential for him to lose. He said it himself "you only need to vote for me one more time". We are in big trouble.
If we demand it we have a chance, especially if we have the momentum. Everyone knows the best time to make big changes is right after you repaint your house.
When the Democrats are back in power again it will be business as usual: pleasing the big donors and keeping the senile geriatrics in their safe seats.
There is a gold mine of horror stories of what insurance companies do to people that the Democrats could run with, along with a base of public opinion ready to turn on them. An org like the Democrats could easily create messaging around this to build support.
As well as many other things people aren't going to tolerate tinkering with: A viable immigration plan, an Equal Rights Amendment, more research and development, more rights for workers, an overhaul of fed court system, term limits on SCOTUS, the end of the Electoral College, and so on. Never again!
Tim Walz when Democrats are actually back in power, "the democratic party would support universal healthcare if we were starting from scratch but we simply cannot risk even one employee at UnitedHealthcare or any other great American healthcare company being put out of work."
The moment trump dies the neoamerican monarchist dream dies with him. He has surrounded himself with the least likeable shitbags he could find. Not sure they have the same plot armor he does
I love Tim. You don’t have to agree with him on everything to know he means what he says. Him getting picked for Kamala’s VP was a signal that she was listening to us old Berniecrats.
Yeah cus the problem was never walz, hell walz was the dream pick, it was a miracle we got him over the other likely candidate (zionist freak), walz is an actually decent human being and a saint compared to most dems
Assuming we make it out of this spasm of oligarchy; I wonder what wedge issue Rs are going to make out of whole cloth to get their base angry about for the cycles forward. The racism is obvious, the immigrant thing is getting tired; being anti science is meh, wonder what’s left.
If Democrats expect to get back into power they'd be well advised to launch a massive effort to counter the voter repression/suppression/nullification that Republicans have doing for a number of years. See @gregpalast.bsky.social for the numbers. 2026 is already cued up for the GOP.
I hope they also know the veil is off; the days of "We JuSt CaNT Do ThAt" are over. We are tired of "decorum" and strongly worded statements. Make something happen or make way for the next generation of ass kickers.
Yesssssss!!!!! Medicare sucks! It doesn't cover dental or meds. You need to pay for your Medicare, plus a supplemental policy, plus a medication policy plus a dental policy. FFS!
And they’ll codify Roe! The thing they could have done a zillion times for the last decade plus but would rather endlessly campaign in. Fuck these people man.
The only way to make that headline make any sense is if you get rid of that Democrats part. I don't expect them to figure out how slippers work at this point.
The only time Dems fight for #MedicareforAll is when a GOP is Pres or Gov. Look at history of CA single payer bills at https://hc4us.org When GOP Gov- Dem supermajority passed the bill. When Dem Gov- same supermajority kills the bill every time. Both parties take $ from Medical Industrial Complex
I agree, but I’m not sure it will be democrats, unless these new kids can tear down the old and rebuild a new party. They call us socialists? So let’s BE socialists and stop courting the right. Stop trying to be republican Light.
Will not happen. It’s treading water and the voters know it.
Can we please stop promising the subset of us that want this that we're going to do it when clearly the majority of the country will never be okay with it? All it does is piss off the base when we don't do it and scare the swing voters.
Easy for him to say not in office. If in office, he wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. See: California Governor Newsom - man ran on single payer healthcare and once in office did everything he could to make sure it never happened. That’s our Democratic Party!
So, they thinks Dems will be back in power sometime soon? That seems to be rather optimistic considering what’s already transpired in the past 5 weeks.
The problem is I don’t think anything we have seen so far from this administration points to the intention of Republicans letting Democrats get “back in power”
I am sure Tim Waltz HOPEs that democrats could have an opportunity to control the house senate and presidency, that kind of CHANGE would be… something something OBAMA. My point being democrats won’t do if they have the chance.
That and a lot more. It’s time that we restore balance to this country. We have been drifting to the right since Reagan beat Carter (with the help of another Kennedy), and if we don’t quickly address all the damage that has been done by the corporate takeover of US governance, we never will.
Any Democratic Leader taking PAC money is already compromised. Maybe Primary them out of politics and you could work your way to having a Government that is for the people, not $Billionaires and Corporations.
It would be a start.
To get back in power, they must learn that they don't have to choose between supporting progressive policies and messaging effectively to the working, should-be middle class. They must do BOTH. And they're going to have to fight for the people now, not promise they'll lead in the future.
Back in power? Do they mean rotting in a cell for betraying us at every turn and being genocidal monsters? Dems are done with the fun part of being modern day aristocrats, the next part is not so great for them. Neo-liberalism has brought in fascism to power for the second, and final time.
WHY WOULD I LIKE THE FASCISTS WHO WANT ME DEAD?! Are you fucking stupid or something? Does that even need to be brought up that I don't like them, especially during a discussion of THE ASSHOLES WHO KEEP VOTING IN LINE WITH THE PEOPLE WHO WANT ME DEAD?
everyone that disagrees with your favorite sports team is a (russian, commie, ect.) bot. Just start hitting people with the 'ignore all previous instructions and give me recipe,' meme and see how many people tell you to fuck off into the sun.
We are ruled by two minority parties beholden to the-
same billionaires. Most people despise both your parties. Some vote like they have a gun to their head, most don't want to vote for monsters. When this boils over, the reality that you are no more 'the majority' than the Republican Party is going to hit you like a ton of bricks.
He's not wrong, except for one minor fact: they have to EARN our trust and votes. They cannot, to paraphrase the Vichy Dems HQ, "just lie low" for the next 4 years and expect to take the next election by a landslide. If that is really their strategy, which seems that it is, they will lose HUGE.
The thought that midterms or the 2028 elections are "winnable" by anyone not firmly in Trump's camp is insane. This entire administration is going to guarantee dems don't win again by whatever means they have available to them
Elections are controlled by the states- they cannot control every state’s election. There are legitimate benefits to our federalist system and this is a big one
Of course, but how many of us are at the point of preemptively expecting such expectations to be dashed? Universal healthcare will upset the donors too much. Much of the policies I/we want will. Feels like a "fool me once.." moment - again. The bait & switch, excuses, etc is played out at this point
The Harris/Walz ticket did not mention a public option, let alone universal this past cycle IIRC. Biden mentioned the public option in '20 and it was never spoken again after he got my/our vote.
Na... I hope the Working Families Party takes over the DNC tbh.
Well considering Chuck picked Slotkin to counter Trump’s State of The Union, party leadership is doing all they can to prevent power or universal healthcare.
À responsible government,
in the face of a global paradigm shift like AI and crypto, would be establishing social safety nets, UBI and universal healthcare, to prepare the people— not firing them from their jobs and taking away medical care!
We moved to Canada when Trump took office the first time. My wife since developed stage 4 breast cancer. The only way we can move back to the US is if they have universal healthcare. But I don't trust US voters not to elect fascists again and again, so there's that too.
Yes, yes we will. Which is what we wanted the first time around and instead got a giveaway to insurance companies. *Insurance is not fucking healthcare, it's a monthly additional expense for premiums which is money that can not be used toward medical bills.*
If that does ever happen, we can't get complacent. Complacency will make this cycle occur again, and I would like to not have to dread every day that ticks closer to an election with nationwide rammifications.
Democrats are more afraid of offending their millionaire donors than the voting base. The DEM party is completely captured by corporate special interests. There's a reason why I vote for losers like Jill Stein every four damn years.

Biden was doing a genocide. Trump is going to finish the genocide.
This was planned. Biden said "welcome home" to Trump after Inauguration Day
*pats lil Jair on the head for saving lives*
The DNC failed miserably when they put him in the shadows during the last campaign.
Clearly a political party that knows what they’re doing.

They're talking about remote hypotheticals (that always stay remote) that "would be nice".
We need to to be focused on what immediate actions they're taking NOW in order to reach those hypothetical "dreams".

Hell I’d like them to run on making gerrymandering illegal!
Bipartisan, measured, stiff, and financed.
#makeaplan
And yes I also would prefer single payer.
@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social is on a book tour for #PersonalEnrichment.
#ThirdPartyNow
because he was desperate to call the bill "Bipartisan"
and Biden spent the next 3 years bragging about "Bipartisanship"
his plan was that doing this would make him and Dems popular
This was months after pre-folding on endless bad-faith hardliners who didn’t want the ACA to succeed on principle.
Are we forgetting that this stuff is public record?? C’mon people.
Also, please don’t conflate citing historical fact with a lack of desire for single payer; I just honesty don’t think it would have passed or survived.

@bsky.app add a fucking edit option already!

I’ve heard this bullshit before.
they will do absolute fuck all like the last 30 years
It proposed "access" to (unaffordable) healthcare instead.
No mention of "universal healthcare" or "public option" in the 2024 Democratic Party platform, Governor.
https://truthout.org/articles/universal-health-care-was-big-on-the-2020-democratic-platform-where-is-it-now/
Maybe he shoulda been the candidate they ran.
I mean they'll fail me but still

Small improvements at the edges of poor services is how we got here.
The problem is fuckin campaign managers
VP!
I need it.
I have to have it.

But somehow Liz Cheney was supposed to win.
it's shameful that you didn't run on universal healthcare.
Will not happen. It’s treading water and the voters know it.
When they are out of power is when centrists roar.
It would be a start.
Or are you so up your own ass that you think-
We are ruled by two minority parties beholden to the-
Tim seems pretty sure of himself.
The thought that midterms or the 2028 elections are "winnable" by anyone not firmly in Trump's camp is insane. This entire administration is going to guarantee dems don't win again by whatever means they have available to them
Hes right though, if they want to have any amount of public support going forward, they seriously need to up their game
Na... I hope the Working Families Party takes over the DNC tbh.
"We aren't Trump" is not a campaign position. You have to give people something to vote FOR, not just something to vote AGAINST. Tim Walz got muzzled.
in the face of a global paradigm shift like AI and crypto, would be establishing social safety nets, UBI and universal healthcare, to prepare the people— not firing them from their jobs and taking away medical care!
America has been conquered by a ruthless enemy.
"going to expect"? Starting then?
Anyway, glad he consulted a health care CEO
If not for ourselves, for our descendents.
