So, what I *think* I hear is … don’t bother with that pension; go buy Lego and toys and candies cause dark energy’s going to eat you up anyway! Right? … 😜
Katie, I need some good news. Please tell me that nothing really matters in the end, we’re all star dust, or that on the cosmic scale my brief instance of existence will never be remember or have zero impact on the universe. Something heartwarming like that…
But, I just read about recent research claiming that the force of DE may be waning, but of course ultimately that could lead to a collapsing universe or maybe just a static one.
I'll explain it. Once I was hungry, had no time to cook & needed to eat fast. All I had was a family size can of baked beans & toast. I wolfed it down in 15 mins & headed out. Later that afternoon, I CLEARED an elevator - so many frowning desperate people. That was the Big (& thankfully silent) Rip
My fellow passengers certainly expanded rapidly outwards (in relief) from the universe of that elevator once the doors opened. Unfortunately it was a long ride up to the observation platform of the CN Tower. As in approaching the speed of light, time seemed to slow. 😅
Well you’ll be dead and gone before that happens but you might live long enough to see politicians destroy the earth that might be something to cheer you up lol 😆
If these people are making a welcome death, then they’ve actually done you a huge favor for crying out loud. You are going to die anyway, so isn’t it better for that to be something you embrace? I recommend accepting the will of the higher power and understanding that your ego is not the center.
Dang, the fact that we don't know exactly how the universe will end makes me sad. It's like knowing that the last episode of your favorite show ended on a cliffhanger, but then it was cancelled and you will never know how it would have ended.
I'll rewatch Randall Carlson talking about how asteroids rebooted the Ice Age. He thinks Atlantis was in the Azores. Others say Mauritania when the Nile was green. Either way, they were cursed by their hubris.
Recent discoveries suggest the amount of dark energy in the universe is not a constant as previously believed, but instead is variable in as yet unexplained ways. (And if by destroying the universe you mean doing so by weakening, cool. Otherwise ...)
Will it be soon? When you say ‘eventually’, the day after tomorrow? I’ve a birthday coming up and if there is no need for presents I should tell my folk, it’s only kind.
Hey so for real though I can basically just ignore string theory yeah? Like, it didn't pan out? No 17-dimension pockets folding quarks into squiggles, we've just got bizarre sub-planck weirdness and wacky multi-level gravitational energy fields and the dark matter is mostly not antimatter?
Really strange, the universe must be growing in mass too, right, as 'empty space' is actually full of virtual particles that exist in less than measurable time, but still have mass, I think, because they exert pressure. Dark Matter like this? WIMPS that exist in greater frequency nearby real matter?
They should hang around with it if that was the case hey, like with the bullet cluster, it all got left behind when the real matter banged into each other.
OK, maybe it's the condensed matter in stars that the Dark Matter likes to hang out with alone? Screw the gassy stuff? So, maybe it's when nuclear reactions are being conducted that the frequency of Dark Matter existing becomes greater, and not just hanging out with any old gaseous real matter? Odd.
Is it strange that I find comfort that humanity is unlikely to escape this solar system and thus unlikely to further subject ourselves on the galaxy writ large?
The Internet is obviously the biggest source of dark energy in the universe. Though I suspect we are talking about different kinds of “dark energy” here ;-)

The universe is 13.8B years old, which means you weren't alive for 13.8B years.
BUT, when you die? You'll be dead for....infinity.
Everyone: Yay!
Katie: (blinks)
Everyone: Wait, what did you mean?

NOTICE: BUY KATIE'S BOOK!
Just me?!?🫤
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
