a lot of people across the political spectrum are convinced that Trump voters are an immovable monolith that will never abandon him in meaningful numbers no matter what he does
maybe they’re right, but we are in the process of running that assumption through an incredibly rigorous stress test

I really do think this administration is gambling everything on partisan polarization while embarking on a campaign of national imiseration that their own political coalition will bear the brunt of

longterm which in the U.S. is, like, 4 years...well, one crisis at a time.
just: there's always another asshole eventually. as Italy, Brazil, the Philippines, Argentina and many others know...
they may be waiting a while...
And it's only been 76 days. Pretty sure more of his supporters will leave him.
That said, I think 20% of his 50% support is eminently getable and maybe another 10%-15% harder still but possible.
But if folks are going to stand with Trump, we should at least make sure they have to actively make that choice & can't claim ignorance.
Or just overall US population?
I'm glad I saw it day 1. But I'm shocked that so many others didn't.
Especially when it was obvious he'd lost his mind. The man held a Nazi rally for godsake. And yet here we are.
a) some Trump voters really are like that, and
b) there are a lot of Trump voters, that
c) all of them are like that
and I suspect Donald is about to find out otherwise

also, you think people are too smart to fall for something as blatant as signing stimulus checks? Or realize what they're *losing* meanwhile?
Yeah, so...
That hard core is *nowhere near* the number of people who actually voted for him.
Do I forgive those other people LOL no. But
Some of them are going to Google "protest" tonight or tomorrow after driving by one.
They're only going to expect the local news story about their downtown.
They're going to see Utah. And Florida. And Virginia.
as others have noted, this is the floor, not the ceiling. the material of the stock market crashing much less reciprocal tariffs haven't even landed yet.
You can't have half the country pointing out the obvious to you for ten years and then suddenly change your mind.
Undecided/non-voting is far more numerous and many left leaning or center who may have sat out due to Dem's continued choice to be Repub-lite.
Looking at how Dems didn't even defend trans rights but then ready to blame them for the loss.
Trump increased his share of the vote in every election, and critically drew in a lot of young voters in 2024, which are going to be a problem for a while.
And let's be clear: young MEN.
Women except for a sub group of white (sigh) women find him absolutely radioactive.
Should've been enough OH WELL
I do think that most of them also aren't counting on even an interruption in their now unstoppable Triumph Of The Troll.
the hardest part will be making sure we don't go back AGAIN; but, we're not even done with THIS one, so...
more importantly, i think there are a lot of low-info independents who can be reached and are looking for people who will fight
I seem to remember that McCarthy -- yes, that one -- ended his political career by being completely chased out of politics and completely disowned by his formal allies.
on the flip side, Trump never had anything remotely approaching Dubya's peak support.

That said, that's his hardcore support. There is a large % of trump voters that are not cultists, they're marks.
I am, like most of us, waiting with deep interest to see what exactly happens to the cult when he finally kicks it. Is it transferable or nah? I mean, the entire GOP is completely radioactive now, there's no coming back.
he looks half dead. he's beyond cooked. People were walking out of his rallies! And he won anyway! Theses must be written about this
But that's the point, it's hard, but crashing the economy may finally be the breaking point.
But the power always comes from the people.
stay home. seriously. you're right, government is always corrupt. NO exceptions. look, Real Housewives is on.
Okay.
If that's as good as it gets with that lot.
Ok.
It shouldn't be surprising the old narrative is sticking, even though this new context is very different.
the apathetic, the undecided, the misinformed - it's hard for them to stay that way now that Trump has made it clear he wants to burn everything down
