I'm going to say something that will likely get me yelled at but USians on the whole are simply NOT going to countenance higher prices. This is a population that expects cheap goods as a birthright. A population that absolutely will not "sacrifice" on the whole for some nebulous goal.

Today we are a LOT more used to material comfort and thanks to generations of tv watching a LOT more selfish.
