I don’t remember the particular song that was playing when I popped my man-cherry but it was probably Kid Rock, off his Devil Without A Cause album. It was New Year’s of ‘99 & when the ball dropped, so did mine 🤷♂️🪩
For a long time, I only knew of "A Beautiful Morning" by the Young Rascals as a jingle in some kind of commercial airing during game shows in my childhood
It wasn't until I had a more thorough knowledge of that era of "oldies" music in the 1990s that I realized it was a rock song from the 1960s
I guess using those songs in commercials does introduce them to new audiences that might not be made aware of them in any other way, but it's difficult not hearing them as a jingle at first. 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEINzEh_qYg
I don't personally remember Strange Magic being used as a jingle, though my mind can be rusty, and I wouldn't put it past them to have used it in that way
I know the the song, or covers of the song, were used in certain TV shows or movies geared at children/family relatively recently, so I’m sure that they could serve as an introduction to the song to newer generations
I played the greatest hits album a few times maybe two months ago, and I'm certain that's the only time she's heard it. I was shocked that she remembered it.
One of the greatest pop songs of the 1970s has a closing verse where the singer describes walking in on his parents screwing in the living room while getting high and listening to his Kiss records.
I remember in the halcyon days of first following you on Twitter, when you would regularly wish people a happy birthday by saying something like (I'm paraphrasing here), "[Age number] years ago, your parents had sex. Happy birthday!" 😉
See, I have four siblings and we are born in three different seasons, which means that it was a year-round thing for my parents. Uncomfortable knowledge, that.
Pretty sure my youngest was conceived when me and his mum were on holiday with a bunch of extended family for a week, and on the Thursday we had to sneak off to the woods in the middle of nowhere for a bit of 'alone time' while the relatives looked after our eldest
None of my siblings or I were born in the spring, so at least I can hope my parents only did it for warmth during the cold part of the year, and not for... any other reason I don't wanna think about 😅
Thinking of the Doonesbury strip where Rick and Joan are unexpectedly pregnant late in life, and backdating: "It must have been the night the dishwasher broke"
Since my Irish Catholic parents used to always tell us “sex is for procreation, not recreation” I assume they only listened to sad flute music or monks chanting
I put the music channel on the tv to cover the noise and it accidentally ended up being Black Eyed Peas. Was very, uh, focused on the task at hand to then regain spacial awareness that it was playing.
I could fully believe it being used to sell life insurance now too.

So that's why I feel clumsy and awkward when I see a life insurance commercial.
But then, later on, you have to reckon with the fact that your parents might have banged to some of those songs, too.

It's also a song about STDs.
Pure genius, killer hook.
Sorry if this is TMI
